Yay! Not sure if this was saved from the past or if Coach Elizabeth is doing stuff for TRE again, but always good to see her and topics on nutrition.

The only reasons I don't take more supplements are because they can be so expensive and I'm also very picky about what I eat, lol 🙈. Good info here! I liked your tips on verifying supplements.

I take salt sticks with caffeine… are those ok??? I feel like I run faster and have a better recovery afterwards.

"taking antiinflamatories like ginger and turmeric". I'm pretty certain that the knowledge has changed in this regard and we've come to accept inflamation as a normal part of the recovery, not just that but also required. So why hinder this process?

    • @TrainInspired

They also say that sometimes you don't want to do anything about a fever because that's your body healing. However, there are times when a fever or inflammation can be dangerous. Such as too much inflammation or chronic prolonged inflammation. Also if inflammation becomes too uncomfortable it can hinder performance and you might want to do something.

@@TrainInspired I agree with you, context makes the difference but my point still stands on the context of the video

This is true if you're that runner that does 30mins runs 3-4x/ week. However, if you're a serious runner that does high volume, high intensity, long duration, then plenty of anti inflammation would be extremely helpful to keep your body going. Let's face it, running is only healthy if you're not doing too much of it.

    • @cristian.nitoiu

@@aaryt 3-4 runs a week for someone who doesn't run at all might be too much. I find this to be an oversimplification as everyone has a different level of fitness. I'm just talking about recovery and the use of antiinflamatories. We in fact need inflamation. I suggest you take a peek at this podcast by Andrew Huberman if you want to understand the proper way of maximizing your gains, be them muscle gains or aerobic capacity

All dat shit they sell as a "sport" supplement is definitely bull*t. There are a few that are okay according to USADA's 2022 Clean Sport Handbook, but you had to be exceedingly careful and research them for yourself. Vitacost is one of the better suppliers---they're both reasonable and reliable. Overall, better not to depend on that kind of thing to train.

Great information!! I have found that eating a proper human diet (low carb, high fat) I don't need most of those products. I try not to allow these big supplement companies pick my pockets.

No its a diuretic. Your body uses tons of water when you run.The water helps your muscles too. Even lemonade does the same. Energy gels if you want caffeine!

Before watching the video, I can only think of two valid supplements: 1) an electrolyte supplement for hot days to limit cramping & headaches from sweatloss (e.g.: saltstick), and 2) a daily multivitamin (esp. D3) to keep your body & immune system healthy.

I actually stopped taking protein powder, whey isolate recently. I think it kinda helped, but i can get protein from food pretty easily. All that extra stuff in protein might be doing extra stuff that i don't want and i want my body to do protein synthesis and processing naturally, not those 100 amino acids and BCAA's that my body can do on its own. I might become dependent on these suppliments. Creatine also is good according to everybook but you can make it with your own body. Bodybuilders cant ever everything from food, but runners might be able to, i think we don't entirely know yet? Just CARBS is the most complicated of the 3 MACRO's, believe it or not more than protein. Ill show you the book and cite if anyone actually reads or responds or whatever. I read in a book that carbs is the most important and complex of the 3 macro's.for running. But its also what you DON"T eat or take, not just what you do TAKE! People who have IBS have difficulty with running diets also.. I also stopped eating food i didn't know was dangerous such as shellfish recently because it made me sick. Also, I eat only whole grain 100% wheat bread, not regular or white bread! I made so many diet mistakes in the past, I thought I can eat whatever and I just burn if off because im running. I didn't understand how bad sugar was, that you need fiber, all the complexities. But you actually kinda have to slightly over-learn not just eat healthy to be able to eat healthy. Or just eat exactly what a coach tells you, or meal plan can help. I do actually take energy GELS and some energy products but only SOMETIMES, like if i need an energy boost or during some hard workouts. They have caffeine, I dont drink coffee so less MG affects me more than an average person. Also I think runners need to count their calories more!!!! Runners are kinda lazy with this sorta. You need fat protein and carbs. Mastering the CARBS is the most difficult for sure. Just wanted to ramble a little bit. Been watching this for a while and I didnt even know some the stuff u just mentioned.
