- Japan's Emperor Naruhito planted a cherry tree at Oxford University Friday, in the gardens of the college where he was once a student.
Japan's Emperor Naruhito and his wife took a trip down memory lane Friday, the final day of their weeklong stay in Britain, with a visit to the medieval university city of Oxford where they both studied in the 1980s.
The imperial couple's formal state visit concluded Thursday with a goodbye from King Charles and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace, but they squeezed in a trip to Oxford before flying home.
The 64-year-old emperor attended Oxford's Merton College in 1983-1986, while his wife Empress Masako, 60, studied international relations in the late 1980s down the road at Balliol College.

日本のメディアでも、少し遅れてこの映像が報道されたようです。
日本国民は、天皇皇后両陛下、敬宮殿下をとても誇りに思っております
ですが、今回の両陛下の訪英に関してTVなどのメディアでは、少々報道が少ないように、私は感じています。
その為、海外のSNSに上がってくる映像の方が早いこともあり、選んで見ていました
また、音声がしっかりと入っていることが多く、他の動画だと思いますが、皇后陛下の英語での会話を拝見することができました。それは、日本ではあまり見たことがないものだったので、とても嬉しいことでした
【天皇雅子皇后両陛下】は日本の誇り、宝です!国民から尊敬と敬愛され絶大な信頼が有り人気が有るにも関わらず日本のマスメディアは【天皇雅子皇后両陛下】に関する報道が常日頃から意図的に報道量が少なく国民は不満と不快感が有ります。今回もイギリス訪問の報道がマスメディアは上げず海外からの逆報道で知り感動を見てイギリス国に感謝致します🙇🙏

It's lovely to see the Imperial majesties in the UK. They both seem very respectful and dignified as they are welcomed back. The empress looked beautiful at the state dinner with Charles, Camilla, Sophie, Edward and William and the Emperor's speech was perfect. 🥰👑👑

I hope our friendship between GB and Japan will keep and grow with the tree growing. Planting tree, it's a common practice for imperial members when visiting other countries and I thought it was very ceremonial. This time I could see their special attachment to GB. Sadly they are not allowed to visit and meet at any time they want, they may not be able to see each other again in future. I understand the planting is meaningful this time.

@@MontagZoso The Emperor and Empress of Japan are wonderful people. However, the Emperor's mother, Michiko, has confined this kind Empress for a long time, preventing her from engaging in diplomacy, and she continues to harass her terribly.
In Japan, the wonderful welcome of the Emperor and Empress in the UK is hardly broadcasted. The Empress Dowager is jealous of Empress Masako, who is beautiful, talented, and speaks English fluently, and thus interferes.
Michiko wants her second son, Prince Akishino, to become Emperor instead of her eldest son, the current Emperor, and she is obstructing the Emperor and Empress. If you search for "Michiko, bullying," you can find information about this.
Wonderful to see the Emperor and Empress of Japan at their Alma mater. So gracious and so dignified. What a lovely couple. Respect! ❤️🇺🇸

I hope Empress Masako, the Emperor and Aiko get to travel more. The Imperial Household Agency cooping them up had been a source of stress for the former Diplomat.
With her world experience and linguistic abilities, Japanese diplomacy would be enriched by having them travel through Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and North America, spreading Japan’s message and improving Japan’s brand.
