So Can You Use Adhesive Vinyl on Shirts? Oh yes you can! ! Learn how to use Silhouette CAMEO to cut multi color vinyl designs like a pro: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2014/05/silhouette-layering-vinyl-tutorial-no.html
Thank you, Melissa! I need to make a six-pack ab shirt for Halloween but I didn't want to waste a shirt for an image I would never wear again and this is perfect. Thank you for always teaching me something new.
Thank you so much for making this video. This is exactly what I was looking for to help me make temporary Christmas shirts for my family. I don’t work with vinyl so I’m wasn’t sure what’s doable and what’s not. I ordered a decal and your video laid everything out perfectly. You’re a gem!
OMG YES!! This is exactly what I was thinking. I want to add 'Birthday Girl' on the front and a number on the back of an outfit but want to have the outfit to wear afterwards without that on it. So happy you shared this to confirm what I thought would work! ❤
Thank you, you answered my question from your layering video. I'm getting deep into sublimation and want to use my silhouette more. Weeding is a pain but I'll eventually get the hang of it. Thanks again you're great
I love this idea... its like you can make the designs temperary but if u like it alot u can also make it permanent with the bleach metho. This is very kool. Thanks
I'm making a shirt purely to hassle (in a friendly way) a TSA officer tomorrow and knew you could do this but I'm really nervous about it sticking more to the shirt than the transfer tape!
Love this idea - How do you remove it once you don’t need it anymore? Can you just peel it off without it leaving any residue or marks on the shirt? Can you use the print and cut design in the same way?
Hello, Thanks very nice, i was wondering if we dont wash the garment, can we still keep it as a souvernir ? or the vinyl will fall with time? asking thsi because i always do personalized shirts for my kids birthdays and like to keep them for them as souvenirs.
Yes you can keep them and the vinyl should be ok as long as it's not washed. I would also try to avoid folding on the vinyl area or it may lift off the shirt.
Melissa you are right on time for my three color tee shirt using vinyl. do you put the registration marks on yourself on each sheet in your design? does each color have a separate sheet of transfer sheet?
how long would last? . I want to do t-shirts for my daughters quinces (15) we are going disney . just hers would be iron on . but for family can make it like this
Hey there! You wouldn't be able to make adhesive vinyl permanent. You would want to use HTV instead: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/01/how-to-cut-heat-transfer-vinyl-with.html
Hey there 🤗 How are you able to reverse weed like that? No matter what I do the letters won’t come out like that, not sure if the vinyl I use is bad or what 😖
@@SilhouetteSchool Heard that if you keep the iron moving, keep the process no more than 10 - 20 seconds and make you sure have a surface that can absorb the heat, then it should work.

This is such a perfect hack for my son’s school theme days!!!!!!!

You want it to stick more to the shirt than the transfer tape..so you can take the transfer tape off :)
What a great idea! This opens up so many seasonal options. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
In case you have not been told today. YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Thank you for a great, informative, and exciting video!!!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you for answering my question. I have so many spirit days coming up for my daughter and she’ll never wear the shirts again.
You are so welcome!
Love this idea - How do you remove it once you don’t need it anymore? Can you just peel it off without it leaving any residue or marks on the shirt? Can you use the print and cut design in the same way?
Yes just peel it off. You could just use printable adhesive vinyl too, I guess.
Thank you for this!! I have school fun dress days that need shirts but I know my kids are only going to wear it once.
You are so welcome!

Thank you for this video, I’m going to try this on my T-shirt tomorrow…
Melissa you are right on time for my three color tee shirt using vinyl. do you put the registration marks on yourself on each sheet in your design?
does each color have a separate sheet of transfer sheet?
Hey there! Check out this blog post: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2017/08/layering-vinyl-silhouette-transparent-stained-glass.html
you dont need to heat this? You can wash the shirt after that and it wont fall off?
Hey there! This is a great method for temporary designs such as for holidays. I've read that some people wash them, but I haven't.
@@SilhouetteSchool becauss there are different type.of these vinyls. Heat transfer ones. Thats why I am asking about these self adhesive.
What do you do with the adhesive after holiday is over ? Can you reuse it ?
Peel it off! I wouldn't try to save the vinyl, no. But it's better than wasting a full tshirt!
Super Cute! Enjoyed the video.
So even though it’s permanent vinyl, it won’t last on a shirt if it’s not iron on?
Correct. Even though it is permanent vinyl, it is not creating a good enough seal on fabric to actually be permanent.
How aggressive could you be with an article of clothing with this technique? Do you think it could last through a day at Disney?
I've heard of people putting them through the wash and it lasting a few. I'd think it might be ok!
can you heat press permanent (not htv) onto fabric take it last longer?
I've heard this works too! I haven't tested the longevity of removable vs permanent though.
Have you ever done this on a polyester/dry fit type shirt? If so, did it stay on? And come off cleanly?
Hey there, I did not try this on a dry fit sort of shirt, sorry!
Anyone tried?!?!?!?
Ok there it is…cool
Thank you so much for this video. 💖🧘🏽🦋stay bright
You are so welcome
What type of shirt did you use? My black shirt test turned out orange.
What do you mean it turned out orange? I just put adhesive vinyl on this cotton sweatshirt
Love this, thanks for sharing! Can I use other adhesives to do this like removable vinyl?
I have heard of people using removable!
how long would last? . I want to do t-shirts for my daughters quinces (15) we are going disney . just hers would be iron on . but for family can make it like this
I've seen people say it can last a few washes! I would test it before you go though :)
Great idea👍🏾
Will this hold up through sweating, or will it fall off?
I've heard that some people get even a few washes out of it!
How do you keep the edges sharp on the bleached shirt? The bleach leaked under the vinyl on mine. Thanx for the info.
Make sure the vinyl is stuck down really well on your shirt
@@SilhouetteSchool I used a brayer with a piece of wood inside the shirt and used less bleach this time. It came out nice. Thanx for the help.
Could you use CAD CUT adhesive behind the vinyl to make it permanent like foil? The Dollar Tree glitter vinyl is super cute I want to try it
You could try it :)
Be careful with the dollar tree vinyl , looks pretty , not easy to work with and doesn’t last :(
If I use the 651 Oracle on a T-shirt will be temporary? How can I make it permanent. Thanks
Hey there! You wouldn't be able to make adhesive vinyl permanent. You would want to use HTV instead: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/01/how-to-cut-heat-transfer-vinyl-with.html
Hey there 🤗 How are you able to reverse weed like that? No matter what I do the letters won’t come out like that, not sure if the vinyl I use is bad or what 😖
If the vinyl doesn't release easily when you are trying to weed, increase the force setting to 14.
Thank you!!!
did we have to mirror it ?
No - it's just regular vinyl
can permanent vinyl be used on a shirt?
Yes that's what this video is showing. It's a temporary, removable option.
Can you use this on a cricut
Yes
@@SilhouetteSchool awesome
but will it work on a polyester bomber jacket that can't go under the Heat press?
Try it :) If not peel it off
Love this! 😍 Where did you get the sticky mat from?
It's just a Silhouette cutting mat
@@SilhouetteSchool Ok!
Can I use the new cricket colour changing permanent vinyl?
Hey there! I am sure that could work for this.
Can anyone answer this question I have. I'm new to this stuff. Can you iron permanent faux leather.
I have heat pressed faux leather, but I would test whatever material you're using in a small area first to see how it reacts to heat
If you do the bleach method like your shirt, can you wash it afterwards or will if fade?
You can definitely wash afterward. Check out this blog post www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2021/11/how-to-make-bleach-sublimation-shirts.html
Do I need to "mirror" the image using vinyl like you would with iron on?
No you do not
Thank you
Super cool idea
Glad you think so!
Cool video. Gotta try the bleach technique.
can you heat press a permanent adhesive glitter vinyl? what happens if you do?
Hey there! I have heard of people flash pressing it on but I would be concerned about melting the adhesive.
@@SilhouetteSchool Heard that if you keep the iron moving, keep the process no more than 10 - 20 seconds and make you sure have a surface that can absorb the heat, then it should work.
Do you have to mirrored on this vinyl?
No you don't
Will this work on a satin cape?
I'd think so
so there’s no way to make this type of vinyl stay permanently on a shirt?
If you want it to be permanent, use HTV. Using adhesive vinyl is a temporary solution
Thank you so much you’re amazing !!
Could I use the adhesive vinyl on shoes?
Also thank you for this amazing video! I appreciate all the tips and tricks you taught me!
Hey there, I'd bet you could! I would make sure where you're applying is super clean.
Where can i get the sticky mat from?
Hey there! That is my Silhouette cutting mat, you can find it here: shrsl.com/2tai9
Great idea 👍
Thank you! 😊
If it is washed inside out will it stay?
I've heard that some people have had luck with it staying for a few washes. I wouldn't count on it though.
Very smart
So it doesn’t need to be ironed?
No b/c it's adhesive vinyl
What would happen if you threw parchment paper over it and ironed it
You can certainly try..but I didn't ;)
Does it stay on
It stays on temporarily as intended. Then you can remove it without damaging the shirt.
❤
Tried this technique for an experiment - not something I have enough patience for. Way too tedious.
Yap yap yap😮😩
Can I wash ??
This is meant for temporary designs, I would not wash.
How long does this type of vinyl stay on clothes/ how many washes before it peels off??
It doesn't stay on in the wash - this is a VERY temporary solution where you don't want it to be permanent.
