R.I.P. Legend. Your legacy lives on through your music. Most men can only dream of such a legacy.
Brilliant he has such a great voice and he's so handsome x
This song never fails to give me goose bumps. What a classic.
That's funny because I was just thinking "this is giving me goosebumps" lol. So touching ❤
Phenomenal talent.
Beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes.❤
This is so good! I also love the version done by their pal Linda Ronstadt. The key members of the Eagles were Linda; 's backup band and as opposed to holding them back, she convinced them to form their own band. Linda Ronstadt was beloved by apparently everyone she worked with and greatly respected for her tremendous talent and dedication to the work. Also, it is pretty heartwarming to watch Letterman's band LOVE this opportunity to play this song with this legend!
I always thought his singing was underrated. Which is a pretty easy thing to have happen when you're in a band with Don Henley & Randy Meisner.
I miss Glenn and his God-given talent. Sing to the Angels Glenn and rest in peace knowing that you'll never be forgotten, ❤😢❤
Mr. Frey left us way too soon. One of my favorite artists.
Love the Eagles, loved Glenn Frey, and love this song! Well done!
Genius talent
Holy moly, this is gold. Thank you.
there was a cat on the CB Radio back around 78 here, went by Desperado (from the song), pretty cool dude. always on the CB on weekend nights. miss those days, all the locals stayed connected like that. was great way to see what happening on Fri/Sat night, see where the parties were etc. we all hung out on 10 and 11. now it's just dead-air, ghost town. although the Skip does come in daily, sometimes at night, but that's it, no more local chatter. pretty sad ☮
Used to go by Orange Crate. Drove a orange Chev van. Then I got a yellow IH scout, so changed to Gold Harvester. Haven't thought about CB radios in a while.
A legend, true professional. RIP Glenn
This is a wonderful tribute to this song. Glenn Frey spoke.
thanks for uploading, I've never seen it before!!!! RIP Glenn.
Love this tune. Eagles finest.
Always and Forever in Our Hearts
R.I.P. Glen❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Glenn's death was such a huge loss to music in general and Detroit in specific. Bob Seger tells stories about the two of them before/early stardom and both really make Detroit proud bc both achieved a respectable maturity and humility that's not easy to find. RIP Glenn.❤❤❤
It's weird to hear Glenn sing Desperado but it sounds good. RIP Glenn
Thanks Dave .
This is my favorite Eagle's song by Glenn and Don. Wonderful lyrics. Glenn's voice sounded so sweet in this version. Sad that he had Rheumatoid Arthritis. Idk what complications from RA that he passed away from. I have RA and wonder about other deaths... if the disease will effect me the same way? I don't recall Glenn ever saying anything pulicly about RA?
I believe it was cardiac c related from the R.A
Love this song. Thanks Glenn for all the great music. R.I. P. 💔🙏
💔💔💔💔💔
I always thought the line, "out riding fences" was a little pretentious, until I started watching westerns.
Rheumatoid Arthritis and Pneumonia is a bad combo. ♥️
@@CarolCorder It sure is. 😢
As songwriters, there are certain songs and artist/writers we all aspire to…R.I.P., brother.❤
My fave from that group!!Truly missed him ❤️
Wow amazing I've never heard Glenn sing this
Henley sang this on The Eagles' album.
Exactly
and at every Eagles concert... except for the more recent ones where he's now *lip-synching* !
Yes, he did.
Absolute pure gold!!
Timeless & beautiful offering.☘️
A beautiful song
This is my favorite song of the Eagles.
Mine too
Clean-cut antics in the best Animal House tradition...ah, the old days. As the 1800's desperado called the Desperado life, it was 'wild adventure'.
Never were truer words sung to tame the social 'desperado' in me in the seventies. As sung by Linda Ronstadt, aka the recriminatory feminine voice making solid points about the old me (some points anyway or maybe) the song Desperado made me finally do good, and actually be good, you'll be happy to hear.
Beautiful performance by one of my songwriter idols. RIP Glenn. And it’s quite clear why he and Don agreed who would sing this. Don’s voice is far better for this and many Eagle tunes. And here’s why critique of Letterman, who I generally like. The dude has a new album out and he doubles down on ridiculous hotel room trashing questions. Not one question on the album or what is like to go solo. Missed opportunity Dave.
RIP to Glenn, the captain of American Rock bands.🕊❤🦅
He is so talented.
True talent!!!
Very Sad 😔 u left us too FREAKEN EARLY!!! RIP BROTHER 🙏 😢!
August 2024 still watching this. And always been a huge fan of the eagles. This song always makes my eyes tear up. One of eagles best songs ever
They are the greatest recording artists of all time for a reason, bar none. Google it.
❤
Let's redirect the thought: What exactly happened to our Country? We still have talent in the USA! Music is born by inspiration.Legends is music's Spark!
Yeah your right. what happened to music on earth period,?
Thank you for sharing your talents with the world RIP we all miss you
"First song they ever wrote together." ❤ There's some history for you. "It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day."
I love how slow it is and how the band is even struggling a little bit with the tempo (seems like Will Lee wants to push it a bit faster than Frey wants to go) -- but eventually they settle into it. Really beautiful.
Frey's tempo is very uneven. The piano is the lead instrument and it makes it sound like he's right and the band's wrong, but it's the other way around.
Word. The band does a great job of smoothing it out and killing the harmonies as well!
That temp seems to be one of the keys to make this song great . The Words/ lyrics are also up there
One of my favorite Eagles songs so beautiful
It's such a great song. Glenn did decent here, but I worked security and heard Don Henley sing this and was blown away how good a singer he was.
Great talent is never forgotten
I am used to Henley's voice for this song but Frey's voice was fantastic.
The piano guy is just BANGING on those keys a drowning out the song.
I hope you'll be up there waiting for me Glen when it's my time. The World Misses You 🌎
Don Henley just sued Letterman and the ghost of Glenn Frey, enjoy this
before it gets pulled for a copyright strike, you can check out anytime you
Like but you can never leave....wait isn't that a Jethro Tull tune ?
Of course he did - he is sue-happy. I've never seen a picture of him smiling. The business of music destroyed him.
...and Henley will sue Don Felder again, just for fun.
I haven't heard the original version ...but this live version sounds great .
The original is Don Henley.
I love the way you can totally tell Frey thinks this is a good song. lol.
He became so handsome with age.
I do love the way Linda Ronstadt sings this as well❤ they all know each other from back in the day!
"Elaine, could you just not talk for one minute"
RIP. Was lucky enough to have seen him with the Eagles twice ❤
"Desperado" is my fav Eagles album, cause it's understated and before the band went full on rock and roll. So it's nice to see this Glenn Frey performance from 1984 and funny it's a post "Eagles broke up" interview.
Elaine, could you just not talk for one minute?
😅
😄😂🤣😅
Hahahahaha
Perfect!
Who is Elaine?
Makes me too sad. This song and Yesterday by the Beatles, they tear me up.
For me, it's Somewhere Out There. An American Tail from the 80's. Ironically, also performed by the great Linda Ronstadt, and James Ingram. I had just divorced and had gone back to college full time. My kid was only five years old, but I had a good support system for him. I remember so clearly, driving home from a long day of classes, waiting to see my kid and giving him a big hug. He was waiting for me too. ❤
There’s a lot of night skiing 😉
Beautiful.
RIP Glen I really enjoyed all the Eagles songs in the 70s and later on their solo stuff too really beautiful!!
My biggest frustration with this band is Glenn ended up giving up the frontman role to Henley and it felt so forced and by the time The Long Run came along, all the good songs were sang by everyone but Henley, who fronted 7 songs on the album. Frey deserved lead on far more songs than he got.
GREAT SONG-GREAT BAND-GREAT MUSICIANS-GREAT DAVE🎵❤️🎸🌻
I miss all the originals😢. The Eagles ❤️
I love seeing professionals emanating joy... like the band member at 02:50.
Yes. I was so lucky to catch Son Seals in a little bar on the beach just a couple of years before he died. By then he was a little wizened old guy, but he still performed like a power house. There were maybe 24, 36 people there. They should have been lined up out the door. Anyway, he sat on this stool and sang. He had a couple of kids backing him up. They were great musicians, and the looks on their faces for the whole show said, "Can you effing believe this? We're backing up Son Seals!" What a great show that was. ❤
@@karens1967
Looking up Son Seals now.
My first thought as well... This guy is enjoying every single second of this sweet moment in time.
Makes me think of the great Terry Funk
And their publishing company charged them $250,000 to play this...,
... worth every penny ...
🕯 ... Miss you, Glenn Lewis Frey

Meanwhile the song "Supercharger" was free
@@fakeascanbe423 Superchargaaa!
@@RazorsEdge1810 🎵really make you lose your mind 🎵
That was always the story: Don't ever mess with the Eagles. That publishing company will charge you a hefty fee.
Let somebody love you before it's too late😮
A band breaking up might be ugly and it might be amicable, but I wouldn’t think that it would ever be “pleasant”.
As someone who has felt very pleasant when my last band broke up, I disagree.
I just wish that it would've happened sooner.
Who's that playing the drums?! Is that Steve Jordan?! Jordanaires?!
It is indeed. The Rolling Stone himself. He played with Paul Shaffer on Letterman from 1982-1986.
@@privatepenguin3137 After that and before the Stones he was an Xpensive Wino! So...if he was with Shaffer during those years...I wonder...did you play with Honeydrippers? I'm going to looks and see...wow.
@@alexkx8599 Steve Jordan did NOT play on that Honeydrippers album...but Paul Shaffer did (...along with an A-List lineup including Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Nile Rodgers)
R. I. P. GLENN 😢
Thank you Linda Ronstadt for discovering Glenn Frye ❤
He said “Atlanta” pretty fast. That was not a hypothetical example! 📺
Love this song a true legend all ways will be remembered
Many people put out negative attitudes about entertainers who stand up for their rights. Don Henley is often taking a hit for his stance on his own personal legacy. Don is a smart, talented man. His relationship with Glenn Frey and anyone else is just that, His Relationship with Whoever. MYOB PEOPLE!
Tears are falling
RIP Glenn, but this is horrible song for him, it’s Henley on this one…
Great song, great performance
Those backup vocals were pretty great.
Awesome!
lyrical perfection.
I totally recall a viewer mail from 1987 complaining of Letterman humming on mike while Suzanne Vega sang Luka (crazy how I recall these details after 35+ yrs) and David responded with a flashback of a him building a birdhouse and humming while this footage of Frey singing Desperado is playing.
The queen of diamonds let you down, she was just an empty fable
The queen of hearts you say you never met
Your twisted fate has found you out, and it's finally turned the tables
Stole your dreams and paid you with regret
Don Felder was screwed over by Henley/Frey.
True.
Henley/Frey wrote some great songs, but they were kinda jerks as human beings.
Yes - they were Sodomizing him; he spoke up and called them on their buggery; they fired him; he fought back and filled a lawsuit; rather than actually have the court decide who was buggering whom, Don & Glenn settled out of Court
They deserved the cost of the settlement.
Great musicians - they got called on their Sodomy.
THANKS
There’s no music 🎶 like that from The Eagles.
I thought Henley sang on this song.
He wasn't there that night.
RIP Glen and my Bros
🎈💐🎶🦅I MISS SO MUCH! RIP 💓
I prefer witch-ay woman
I thought it could be our song!?
“Lying Eyes” was my song with a past boyfriend, as it was playing on the radio when he picked me up for our first date. I like to joke, “You know you are in trouble when your song is ‘Lying Eyes’!”
That's so un-Carl Fargman like
@@lynnturman8157NOT THE FARGMAN 🪓
Then go away.
Love the way Don Henley and Linda Ronstadt sings this as well 👌
So great to hear his version...he and Henley should have rotated lead on this when they toured in those good old days.
We lost this GEM way too soon.
"Night skiing." As in cocaine?
That one went over Dave's head! They didn't have very good chemistry.
@@c.j.rogers2422 Huh? What are you saying?
Yes, that music from the swinging 70s.. Beautiful stuff. Don sang in the original
Better than Don Henley lip syncing today
Well, in Don Henley's defense Glenn Frye was alot younger in this clip than Don Henley is now.
Kisses!
A classic song and once in a lifetime voice!
First
That's an interesting dedication right there.
Suit & tie don't hide that hippy Frey ...
"Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone."
All those accumulated hotel trashing bills, no wonder CBS later couldn't afford to pay the royalties if Paul had to play an Eagles tune just because Dave was in the mood for some 🤣🤣🤣
But who needs it when you have "Supercharger?" ;-)
@@brycemcneil4404 Paul should finish the lyrics for "Supercharger" that he had already started that night
