- Job for a Cowboy - Signature for Starving Power (New Song) - Jon Rice filmed May 3rd, 2011 at The Ace of Spades in Sacramento.
I honestly can't imagine playing an entire set after that marathon. Well played sir.
Too many people are judging his double bass in this video. He's a fantastic drummer with wonderful wonderful. Wonderful.
These guys went from Deathcore to a great Death Metal band.
you just got to love the ride cymbal he's playing
Love how much JFAC has progressed. Don't get me wrong: Doom was awesome. But i love how they have stepped into the melodic death world. Definitely ready for more
@Sojk65a Actually the triggers were occasionally doubling up but Jon said F it...show the fans the new stuff!!
That show was amazing! I even got to meet Jonny!
FIRST EVER GREAT VIDEO
This was a sick show
i went to their show in Tulsa Oklahoma on April 16th and that was the first song they played.
The audio rocks!....
Probably one of my inspiraions and also favorites.
You sir are a good person.
good to see the guitarist back playing live, when i saw them in april he was sick in the hospital
I wanna see Plastic Idols :/ it's my fave off the EP
brutal sick \m/
Why did I click on the square with the view of the whole band expecting to load that view.
I was there!
Hey guys, I toured with Jon on this tour and let me tell you that he's an excellent drummer. The problem was his roland triggers . And @ nolanwillerd, if triggers are gay, so 95% of metal drummers are gay. And I'm 100% sure that you dont know what is a trigger cause you think that he's not tight because of the trigger!!! Triggers doesn't help you to be tighter, it's just like a compressor, it helps to have a clean sound even when you play faster, that's it!!
sick! enough said!
Thank you Mr. Lincoln !! Even an Assassination Victim Knows what's up! GAWD!
my favorite drummer
@ottawadrummer double triggers can be a result of the settings on the module usually a combo of threshold and sensitivity they never really "solved" it, basicly the drummer or drum tech solves it themself by adjusting the settings to the proper numbers but since certain drummers may hit harder or softer than others means theres no golden number setting to fix it
Triggers usually do react to louder or deep bass frequencies and the lower the quality, the more often it happens. ddrum's got some good stuff for trigger packages
Best song from Gloom
@FastHands1504 "While Job for a Cowboy was writing material for their first full-length album, Sellers announced that he would be leaving the band to go back to school immediately after recording the album."
You fucking hear the difference between Elliotts tracks and Charns tracks. Duh.
Anyone know what kind of ride that is? I know he uses meinl but it doesn't look like anything in their lineup.
As for the bass drumming, who knows where this song was in the set. Could have been at the beginning before he was warmed up, could have been at the end when he was exhausted. Sometimes you sit down at the kit and nail your footwork and sometimes your flamming your RLRLs and choppy in your transitions. It happens, no one is 100% perfect. Also if your in a van vs a bus you sleep like shit most nights and run on 3-5 hours of sleep.
italia10588 it's the 22" soundcaster custom mega bell ride, if I had to guess I'd say the song was played towards the end of there set, you have good nights and bad nights.
Here it is: if you dont think the charns db is clean. Watch the studio version of unfurling a darkened gospel, nuff said. Also, you can totally tell his drumming has a major jazz feel to it. All his chops and the way he moves around the kit. Phenomenal drummer.
@drumr4life509 He's been using triggers for how many years now and he still hasn't found the sweet spot of the threshold and sensitivity? I use to use triggers a few years back but I switched back to micing the kick for a few reasons (that being one of them). I mainly switched back because of the dynamics of an acoustic kick drum-- you can play hard or soft, loud or quiet, and it never gets annoying like the clicky-type-writer sound that you hear out of a lot of a death metal bands these days.
@sickdrummerdotcom Actually it was this show. Ace of Spades? I expected alot more from them.
Jon rice is fucking amazing!
@sickdrummerdotcom thats what I thought about too.. or maybe him having a bad day, cause when I saw him live he was flawless too, except for the first two songs. btw nice new stuff and nice shots here :)
@Adamski986 He's a Meinl endorser. You can find his whole setup listed on their site.
@Sojk65a i think i see him using axis's on this vid? if i'm right just snap on some e-kits next time and no trouble double triggering and other trigger stuff whatsoever :)
Dem Blasts :D
@kkempton970 sorry to hear that job for a cowboy was the band that got you into heavy music.
@KHfan4ever23 I thought axis pedals have e-kits? meaning no double triggering. o.O
@UKrocketeer I saw him at NEMF and saw what heads he was using backstage.
I got to meet Adam from Wretched! He was a chill dude (until he got onstage).
@FastHands1504 Too bad Charn didnt write the drum tracks for any of the songs for Genesis.
@sickdrummerdotcom
Does he use the E-kits? He is such a sick drummer. Great vid.
@dawgsftw hell yeah! :D
how come sick drummers videos are always at ace of spades sacromento
Fuck yeah! Seen "The Charn" live and he plays a damn good show! \\m//
You guys need to do Art Cruz and Daniel Erlandsson!
@sickdrummerdotcom why would the triggers mess up like that? I thought they solved double triggering or trigger misfires a long time ago.
it's not his fault the triggers were so sensitive. they had to share that drum set with cephalic carnage i think? either them or some other band
I was expecting alot better from him this night. Kicks are all over the place.
@zmanbrody the actual brand makes no difference, they are the same thickness and material so it doesnt matter. He triggers anyway so it doesn't matter what head he has, the triggers were acting up in this video too
Triggers usually do react to louder or deep bass frequencies and the lower the quality, the more often it happens. ddrum's got some good stuff for trigger packages. Drummers dont *usually* use them to cheat, but to keep good basss drum sound quality on stage. Tuning bass drums is a bitch, especially on tour and double pedals move air around toward the mic so it'll sound muffled or sloppy so triggers are the alternative
@sickdrummerdotcom The sensitivity on the triggers probably got turned up to high at some point during the show either before, during, or after the set. But we all know john, and the rediculous power he has when it comes to playing. I don't think he was the problem here at all. I mean listen to Altered from Catechization... sick nasty quads in the end of that song. One of my favorites to cover on drums.
Hm i wonder why the double bass is somewhat sloppy. Maybe the triggers were acting up. He's pretty damn clean drummer overall, he's pretty much flawless on all videos online and when i saw JFAC live in 2010.
@ottawadrummer he used the Emad for the red chord when he played with them on a single bassdrum. You still have to respect him for what he does and no one could play on two different heads like that. He needed it for 2 bands so thats what he did.
Jon rice is Jesus of the drumset.
@Cessate But one could also make the argument that you STILL think Job For A Cowboy is a "core" band.
someone knows what pedals is he using ??? i know that he used pearl drum set, but the double pedal i dont know..
@TomDrummer15 Why even bothering commenting about Joey here then?
@dawgsftw
they've been death metal since genesis
@UnderwhelmingPlywood He said Jon, not Jonny
@tylercjbradshaw I don't think he even uses Axis. Last I knew, he was using Trick. He may have switched though. But I'm also pretty sure that if he was using E-kits they wouldn't be double triggering. That's one of the main points of them.
They used to be deathcore, their doom ep was very deathcore. Now they're just straight up death metal.
@sunnylee84 this is another example of : everyone has his own playing style and opinion. When somebody uses triggers , it's doesnt mean he or she is a robot.
Please sickdrummerdotcom please please do some videos on art cruz from winds of plague and some on daniel erlandsson from arch enemy pleeeaassseee! And you certainly can't miss daray from borgir now that they're going to do a show with kork!
@AlexPeedley totally agree, pretty much what i tell people every time JFAC comes up in conversation.
love Dr Claw intros :)
he switched to axis, i remember he used trick before? or is my eyes just fooling me?
@ShittyMcPoopyBalls As someone said, he's using someone else's kit.
@zmanbrody I'm not trying to be a dick here, I really like his drumming and JFAC but you're saying he sacrificed musicianship for aesthetic. He should have just used one kick with a double pedal...whatever, I'm just saying.
@sickdrummerdotcom I hope its the trigger. I saw them the 7th and he was sloppy
his hi-hat looks like the sand hat from meinl or is it just me? anyway i know as a drummer that you have good days and bad days so maybe he just had a bad day? anyway he is a sick drummer. met him last November.
@xEDWINxXXX haha awesome!
When I saw these guys the singer drank a whole 26 of Jack by the end of the set!
The drumming is the only reason I listen to these guys, and I play guitar. Should be listening to the guitar, but the drumming is too orgasmic to ignore.
Anyone know where his audition tape is?
@TheBr0seph do you think thats a bad thing?
couldnt quite get that double bass down
It's this kind of video that makes me ever more angry when people call them deathcore, this is pure fucking modern death metal, people need to realise there is nothing core about them. Genesis is one of my favourite death metal albums of all time
thats whats up
@KHfan4ever23 that doesn't mean they aren't good anymore.
Too dumbfounded by the torrent of sound that is ablaze in their cerebral cortex to know exactly when to mosh and when to head bang, I'm amazed that heads aren't literally exploding - Same thing happens at ORIGIN shows all the time.
What are the specs on the kit? Are the kick drums 20'' or 22''??? They look small.....Whats the sizes of all the drums? What brand is it? Yamaha? Ddrum? Pearl?
holy shit its the tarzan of drumming!!!!!!
you mean ddrum? dw doesnt make triggers boss.. Regardless the brand of trigger, the brain and mix is what makes it sound "the way it does" jus sayin :)
@zmanbrody Well, I have played a double bass kit, with two different bass drums, two different muffling setups, two different heads, and two different pedals and i could still play double bass, so you obviously fail. And maybe he has it setup so that they feel the same despite the different muffling, and who said it was an emad on the other bass drum
they were deathcore but not now...just the way she goes boys...
if you like job for a cowboy check out throne of entrails!!
no foot technique lol
@UnderwhelmingPlywood Jonny Davy, Jon Rice. Different people
@TheSilvi19 how so?
new bassist?
0:26 did he hit the rim? LOL
i wonder when the last time they played entombment of a machine was lol
i can just smell the sweat through the screen
OMAYGAD where the fuck is brent riggs ???????
@Ivan Knight very true.there ep doom was a deathcore album but everything after genesis is more or less deathmetal.
The only deathcore album they put out was Doom. Everything after was deathmetal or tech death.
@NecrophiliacKingdom exactly. ive seen them five times and he sounds perfect live. live videos are always weird sounding and dont really do the band justice. especially death metal bands.
@TheBr0seph Now yes, but they got famous for being a Deathcore band, so that's generally where the mistake comes from.
@Nethvlogs he quit the band ): ):
so... if they are not playing deathcore, what are they playing? Death Metal ?
