  • The recent 50 year flood caused a lot of damage to my driveway, this culvert got overwhelmed and the bottom side of the road washed out. I rebuilt the road and added a 2nd larger culvert pipe. The old Hitachi UH043 digger is earning its keep.

One of my first excavators, 30 years ago, had long levers. I’m so glad I no longer have that machine, after 8 hours of running it, my back was killing me. You wouldn’t think that sitting in a machine, swinging levers would beat you up after 8 hrs, but it does. I was in good shape back then too, now I’m old, fat, gray and bald.

Many people do not understand that a cubic foot of water weighs about 63 pounds. When you have that much water moving down a hillside the force it has is enormous. It is great that you and some of your other neighbors have equipment to help repair the damage done. All the equipment that you have repaired and put back to work has been getting a workout. I love to see something that someone else has given up on put back to work, you certainly are doing a lot of it.

You need to bring in some South Korean wall builders, Mate. They have to be some of the best retaining wall builders on the planet. I've seen them build these extremely high steep-pitched interlocking concrete retaining walls that, when they are done, look like an intricate woven basket. Let them attack and repair that lower hillside and it won't ever go anywhere again. LOL

Been thinking about the wasp problem. And the water problem. What you need is a good angle for drainage and you gotta make a rotary hedge shearer. (For the Tractor) This means you have to figure out the correct slope for your drive. That gives you the right angle for anything on top. So that the water drains right. And if it is going to pull shale down to the right place, then make sure you know where it is going.

From my past dredging experience, I bet that zinc sheet will be wash away during heavy flow. To be safe, the discharge pipe should be longer, like current pipe length + sheet + half sheet ( or a length where water flow will reach straight to the bottom) of total length. Keeping current 2 short pipes will wash away the soil during heavy flow.
