    Nice upgrades, I like those handle bars. I put them on an old trek full suspension and you cant beat them for the price. I liked the snow ride video as well. Thanks for the quality content.

      Thank you! Yes, I really like Wake bars and stems. I think they made a big difference in fit and handling on this bike.

    Just put together the dolomite today. I can tell the handle bars need an upgrade ASAP, the right hand grip is so small because of the switch shifter.

      I completely agree. That's why I went with a 45mm stem and a 720mm bar.

      Jim's Obsessive Cycling Disorder I’m new to learning about bikes and upgrades. Is the stem replacement necessary for the 720mm bar?

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  4 роки тому

      The thing is, the stock stem is sized for the small diameter bar, 22mm or so I think. A modern bar is 31.8mm diameter. So, you will need both for this upgrade.

    Hey, cool video! I just got my first fatbike, a Mongoose Argus, and I did add a bunch of things - a bigger wider more comfy seat, a BMX tall handlebar (8.5" - I'm a big fat guy and I can't ride all hunched over like that), Wolf Tooth Mega Fat Paw grips, two side mirrors, front and back lights (it will be dark around 5 pm soon y'know) with front holder, 40 oz water bottle and holder, and iSSi Stomp XL pedals - MUCH better than before! A handlebar bike bag for my cell/snacks and a little Greallthy bike bell to finish it off! I'm loving it!

    How were your rims? I just bought a brand new Dolomite and both rims are not evenly aligned at the seams. A finger nail more than easily catches on one side, the other side being even. From the side I can see daylight between the seam.

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  4 роки тому

      Wow, that's disappointing. My rims were fine and still are. I suggest contacting Mongoose's customer service.

    Hi. Can i put 4.8 tires to this model? I have one but someone is selling jumbo jim 26x 4.8 with a good price.yhanks

      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  3 роки тому

      Hi, I sold this bike so I can't measure to say for sure. My Dolomite ALX has 5 1/4 inches between the fork inner surfaces, with 1 1/2 inch of space between the tire and fork crown, with the stock 26'x4" tires.

    Dumb question, I have the mongoose malis which comes in 5 speed. Is there a way I can turn it into a 7 speed? And did you add a spacer to the stem?

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  3 роки тому

      The Malus/Dolomite comes with a freewheel. I swapped the 7 speed for an 8 speed on mine. Check the Shimano web site for specs on your derailleur to make sure how large a cog it can accommodate. You will need a 7 speed shifter, a freewheel removal tool and a large wrench but otherwise it is pretty simple.

    Hello I was wondering were could i find a threaded stem like the one the Dolomite comes with? if anyone can give me some direction please Help. thank you j

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  4 роки тому

      The Dolomite has a threadless stem. Is that perhaps what you meant?

      @@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder ..Hello truth be to told i was given a fat tire mongoose and its in need of a lot of help the stem on this mongoose is threaded and is bad shape i wanted to replace it . so i guess what i have is not a Dolomite all i know is its a single speed fat tire mongoose. thank you for time.

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  4 роки тому

      Interesting. It may not have a stock fork, since threaded forks aren't used on fatbikes as far as I know. Are there any identifying decals or such? You could also try googling the serial number, usually under the botton bracket. And measure the interior of the head tube to see if a 1 1/8" fork will fit. Finally, when I'm working on older bikes I often find parts on eBay.

    Just ordered a Dolomite and the first thing I’m replacing are the pedals. I’m looking at aluminum rockbros however is there a specific spec to pedals or are they all universal ?

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  3 роки тому +1

      Congratulations! Pedals for adult bikes are generally 9/16", which is the case on the Dolomite.

      My pleasure! I'm not entirely sure where the shifter originally came from, as I fished it out of one of my parts bins. Amazon is usually a good source for such things.

    This is my first time visiting your channel. I enjoyed your video. I am interested in seeing what you did with your xr pro. Did you grease the head tube, wheel, and crankset bearings when you got the bike? I've read that can make a big difference in both the performance and longevity of the bike.

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I have greased the head and bottom bracket bearings on each bike I bought new, even my Specialized Rockhopper. On the XR Pro the stock bottom bracket was so-so and the head bearings seemed to just have oil on them.

      @@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder Thanks for your response. I have enjoyed watching videos and reading about what people have done to improve their Mongoose fat bikes. Did you have any problems with metal shavings in the head tube or bottom bracket? I have a Mongoose Juneau on the way and am curious about what I might find.

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder

    Hey Jim, if the rims aren't tubeless ready you can get latex liners from Fatty strippers. I did this on my Fatboy and it's pretty easy to do. fattystripper.com
