It's hard to imagine looking back, but there was a time where NBA Live was the golden standard of basketball video games. Then when 2K entered the scene, the landscape was incredibly competitive between Visual Concepts and EA. This all changed when EA released one of it's most disappointing titles (Live 2006) on the xbox 360, and 2K seized the opportunity and never looked back.

This game killed NBA Live? This game was my favorite live game! Granted I played the GameCube version

I actually loved this Live. 03 was my favorite but this was the last good Live for me.
The only good Live game for the Xbox 360 I heard was Nba Live 10, since apparently it was directed by the same guy that did Nba 2k. What happen to him? Went back to 2k since he didn't like EA's ideology (like most people do nowadays).

Live was still good on PS2, and NBA Live 09 and 10 were pretty good
Problem is that 2k was improving so fast. As soon as 2k out MJ in the game for 2k11, while EA didn't even release a game, it was officially over. Then, 2k12 added in more legends and updated the Shot Stick with more moves

Once NBA Live went to the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, that was where the developers really lost their way. I still have my NBA Live 06 for PC to this day. For me, NBA Live 2005 on PS2 and NBA Live 06 on PC were the last two great games in the franchise.

They stripped so many features just to make sure they had the graphics down
Madden was slowly getting better until 13 where they focus too much on MUT.
Has someone who just recently bought a 360 to try out these EA Sports games, this comment could not be any more truer! Like holy shit the games are much more janky, all play in 30fps and the lack of modes made for experiences that are the true definition of a quick cash grab all for what are essentially glorified tech demos.
03-06 were good for me the ps2 ones I got 2k7 on ps2 then never looked back

Bro this was my favorite nba live besides 04 and 05 , I only had 3 games when I first my got my 360 live 06 fight night and some racing game game, I use to get chills when I seen dwade load up on that screen for the first time.
Hands down, my favorite nba live...

They started getting better, but 2k caught them, passed them, then buried them with 2k11
I still have NBA live 06 for PS2 Dwade was my favorite player growing up I was 11 when I got this game I even bought the PS3 version when I was 13 in 07 and got the PS3 for Christmas
NBA Live 06 wasn’t on PS3. Neither did 07. You must be thinking of 08. That had a PS3 version.

NBA Live 18 is actually very good, its the first good NBA Live game that EA has made since Live 10, in my opinion.
Yeah I enjoy it a lot more than 2k, but I haven't liked 2k for a lot of years now. I hope EA builds on this and continues to be competitive

Live 06 was played like live 99 and had really good graphics
The basketball net was the only thing good about this game, sadly they reverted back to no net animation in live 19

That's the best gameplay of Live 06 on the 360 I've ever seen. Did you edit sliders and rosters? It plays much better, other than the terrible running animation/speed.
NBA 06 went hard 04 too and 08 with Gilbert arenas on the cover was the last good one

This game is completely different from Xbox to PS2
This game was crap because it was bare bones in features. No Dynasty mode, no dunk contest, 3 point contest or one on one. Also the animations looked worse because it didn't match the graphics. That said if I was forced to play Live 06 on 360 or Live 14, I'm playing 06.
You Forgot to mention that the 2K series NBA/NFL 1st came to Sony &Xbox the games were $19.99 each instead of the $49.99 each for Live and Madden . So getting both Nba&NFL2k for cheaper than cost of an EA sports was a win

EA didnt even bother to fix issues in Live 07 that were present in 06 but Live 08 was a step in the right direction which i did enjoy

In my own personal opinion, NBA Live had been on the decline for quite some time. The last good NBA Live to me was NBA Live 2000. It was the last one that had fluid and intuitive gameplay. The physics were right, and the ease of pickup on the controls were right. I bought 2001, 2002, and 2003 out of pure habit, but i hated those games.
Then i just said screw it, and tried ESPN Basketball in 2003, and I was a 2K convert ever since. But now 2K sucks too with all the micro transactions, so i dont even play that anymore. 🤷🏾♂️

Nowadays people expect too much from any video game they want a game to Almost be realistic I don't care about that as long as EA Sports and NBA 2k make video games that's all good I say stop complaining and enjoy the video games like I say at least they are making them for us to enjoy imagine if they stop making NBA games just cause some people complain about it chill people chill just enjoy I'm grateful for this companies EA Sports & NBA 2k for making this videos games that I enjoy playing 😎
nba live 07 is what killed nba live franchise not 2006
This is why I'd rather avoid the NBA Live games and stick to the NBA 2K games instead. The same goes with avoiding Sony's NBA series.

Loved the Original Xbox version but when I got it for the 360 it just felt horrible and I was hyped to play it because of the graphics

The worst nba live by far is 07 for ps2/ og Xbox. 06 for ps2/og Xbox was good. Once 07 came out it was like they tried to do to much and didn’t even finish the game before shipping. It’s the most broken nba game I have ever played hands down.
Same from Nba2k13 as well. The gameplay in NBA2K13 Was horrible. The graphics in NBA2K13 Was Amazing but the players was Horrifying!!

Where to me 2K beat NBA Live is on Dynasty or GM mode, (NBA Live had way too many undersized players in the dynasty and didn't have multi team control dynasty, ) someone also on NBA Live a point guard for years would be the highest scorer which wasn't always realistic

Can you tell me what other modes they took out? You did say game modes and you only listed one which is very similar to dynasty mode. This game has 9 different game modes to choose from. Online, Season, Dynasty Mode, Playoffs, Nba All-Star Weekend, Freestyle Challenge, 1 on 1, Slam Dunk School, Individual Practice. They also have create a player. This was a solid game.

NBA live 2006 xbox original was the best nba game of all time the x box 360 and ps3 version of the game was not the same this new generation is trash in everything there video games are way too technical the new NBA games 2k 17-20 is like u have to hold the button 3.3 sec to make a shot 3.2 sec u miss 4.1 sec u miss . It's too technical too real it takes out the fun . U have grown men play8ng games in this generation..smh video games was for kids . If we talk about great NBA Lives you have to separate last gen and next gen. Last gen was 06, 07 and on was basically the same game repackaged and next gen 06 thru 09 terrible animations stripped game features and basically they ported 06 from last gen with new textures. I think EA got very greedy and that came back to bite them. 2K6 really wasn’t that good of a game tbh but compared to NBA Live it’s makes it seem like it’s better when you compare animations features realism presentation. EA focuses on little stuff while 2K will make the whole game feel different but leave out little features that could push them to somewhere they couldn’t be touched like with 247 mode in 07 which was the first myplayer storyline in 2K history
