Since Fluttershy's cutie mark is three butterflies, and it was shown that butterflies CAN perform hypnosis, I think purely mental/psychic hypnosis is a plausible backing for her, since on that level the whole trance/sleep isn't required to make hypnotism doable. AND she has the ability to 'suck up' the confidence of her Stare-victims, boosting both her assertiveness and the victims' intimidation. I believe that Pegasus, as well as Earth pony magic has always been passive compared to Unicorn magic, especially in the sense that connecting with nature is rarely a task of forcing it to happen and more of a smooth 'allowing' it to happen; since Fluttershy is a Pegasus and thus uses passive magic, connecting with nature might be the key to awakening her 'animal empathy', and that's pointed out quite obviously when she got her cutie mark in the first place.

The reason she stopped when she saw herself in the mirror was because of shock. She was aiming for specific target and ended up seeing herself and it confused her. She ran away but it kept coming up and THAT'S what gave Twilight the opening. Plus her ablity being able to abosorb isn't 100% correct especially when you see it causing different effects. Hypnotising, fear, and even once confusion! It may be SOME sucking effect but for that to be the WHOLE effect doesn't add up properly.

And in Discordant Harmony, it shows that she does understand Discord's chaotic nature enough to (in her own way) return his home to how it was without actually knowing how it was beforehand. Everything she did (including the singing tea) were things she wouldn't have considered before she met Discord. However, everything she did consider was too on the nose to be just a coincidence (even making a staircase to nowhere using the drape that Discord made *from* his staircase to nowhere).

This has to do with the fact that butterflies have been known to drink blood from dead babies if the opportunity arises. Considering fluttershy’s cutie mark and the existence of flutter bat it’s possible this could be intentional.....or just a very spot on coincidence.

This is totally true! Wild animals try to avoid humans as much as possible, and Fluttershy usually doesn’t communicate with tame animals.
