Always appreciate your thoroughness. Thanks for a great review. I'm going to wait until they address some of the QOL stuff. Especially the holding down F thing. OOF!
Holding down F for what? To build? Pals do literally all the work for you once you deploy them to your base. You do not even need to be there. Simply put a blueprint down (or several) and leave it there and any pal who has the skill will come and build it automatically unless they are doing some other task. Pals can even be assigned to specific workbenches to always produce whatever you craft there.
Really good, thoughtful, and detailed review. Including the cons and why they're cons, which you even get into further in the comments. Simplistic combat and boring dungeons though are a huge negative for me as that would get tedious and unchallenging. Wishlist for now to see how this may/ may not change. Is the overworld procedurally generated though or is it the same map with everything in the same place if starting a new game?
Thank you! From 2 different servers, it was the same layout and placement. Not sure if that can be adjusted, but for those two attempts, it was the same.
The combat does have some depth when it comes to your character, you can roll or backflip to avoid damage, you can use the environment to block some enemy attacks and you can bait enemy pals into attacking each other so the neutral Pals around could join the fight attacking your enemy alongside you (I baited a gang of Pangullets to attack Mammorath and it eradicated them for me) You can also slide and also grapple to get to hard to reach locations for melee enemies. Pal Balls could also be used to interrupt and cancel enemy attacks (only case this doesn't work is the tower bosses or if the ball level is too low for the enemy).
For the performance aspect on low end systems, I was able to play on a playable level on a work laptop with low power, no gpu, 8gb ram, and a intel 15 12th gen
Finally, a real beta review. I'm so tired of people who are not speaking out about the bugs and repetition and fighting. So many people just praise it and hate on pokemon players lmao. Thanks for an honest review on the GOOD AND BAD.
this looks like it could be great fun on the Steam Deck, does anyone know if the devs are planning to support it specifically? eg. with an in game Steam Deck optimised graphic setting?
More than likely not, but people have reported it running just fine on the deck. (especially since the minimum and recommended requirements on steam are very low)
I think I'll keep an eye on this one. It would be nice if the combat system were a little more complex, however, most of the issues highlighted sound like relatively easy quality of life fixes.
I've seen of you play this game like crazy I can't wait to get this game and play with my friends and what I seen on the internet full release date for this game be sometime in 2025 and I can't wait for that but I'm not rushing it one day at a time
have you played Chimeraland? they did this (Palworld) already and I think they did a better job at launch, only problem is it has Eastern pay to win/get ahead mechanics built in. But it is available on multiple platforms including mobile. I like that Palworld allows you to have pals running around in your base, and the host your own server availability. But I think Chimeraland is a better game overall (just wish it had modern graphics, the game was not globally available for about 2 years before global launch, so it is around 4-5 years old and it looks like it)
I'd like to point out that you're able to perform evasive rolls and even implement your glider into combat so in a way, getting the timing down on dodging makes for an almost souls-like experience. Also my only problem with dungeons is that I keep getting lost and there's no minimap. And auto-run is a thing. I just wish auto-work was a thing instead of hold f to slave labor.
The thing is pvp helps games like rust and ark feel not as empty as they actually are. So hopefully adding pvp sooner can cover some areas till more content comes. Overall looks promising
So, the structure movement is exactly the same as Ark: Survival Evolved. Ark: Survival Ascended changed it and you can pick up the structure and it goes into your inventory.
I'm sorry. Survival ascended let's you just take the whole thing? I wish I had known that before I tore my place down for resources and moved to my new location.
I'm playing on an Xbox Series X and it looks good so far, so it can only go up from here! Can't wait for the updates, and my kids can't wait for me to let them play too!
I was really interested! After watching people play it.. I'm sad that it is not something that will replace PKMN games (what it offers is just too different). It's also somewhat generic (see ARK and Monster Hunters)! And that just drives me away because its gameplay is not something I'm remotely interested in. Personally, I would have done so many things differently. Specially more creative and innovative systems, instead of everything you'd expect for a game like this.
my main issue with craftopia is that they do updates differently from the xbox and the pc so even though it's going to be free on game pass do I have to worry of it not being updated as quickly as the steam version
This is the best review I've seen of Palworld so far. I'm considering this game, because there are plenty of things I hate about most survival games.. and this game seems to simplify the things that I really hate about survival games.
I have one question because I know people are saying it's like Ark And Pokemon and one concern I have is with Ark when you have pet dinosaurs and close the game the server is still running so if you stop playing the game for days they die, is that the same with this game where the servers are always running even when you close the game?
I feel like they should introduce something to make your character more interesting in combat. Right now it looks like playing fortnite with monsters. Those are good monsters, but yeah, the character needs something more to do.
hey, played craftiopa early it had really a lot of problems early on they added so much to that game. this one might be bigger so they might put more time into developing it.
development of previous games is questionable. small team dishing out new ambitious games while older ambitious games are very undercooked is not a good look. I dig their willingness to try fun weird designs. (overdungeon can get bonkers)
please provide examples of other games, ones that allow you pick up an object and move it without breaking it ?, i would rather break it and get the RS back from it than having a move option....what if you wanted to move base across map, or just simple not want that object anymore and all you had was a move option ?...i don't see why they would add another mechanic / function because someone was to lazy to hold or press the break button and then go and place it somewhere else.
I love how fire creatures aluminate dark caves. "When you summon it." I think this game is "Objectively IS." Blatantly ripping off multiple other games and to an extent I am okay with that. What they and anybody else creating anything NEEDS to do, is make a unique UI, Flora, Fauna, ecosystem, history, politics and ect. When I look at this game it IS NOT new and or creative. IT IS a cookie cutter COPY of MULTIBLE other games. Which to an EXTENT "I think." is okay. Again while watching this game it has many great qualities/features of other games, which definitely makes it a 10/10 FUN game. What I want though is for it to LOOK like its own game and not like anybody else's... WOOT WOOT games are fun, THANK you for making this video.
Combat doesnt sound lack luster with all those pals involved and seems more complex than that of ARK or at the very least equivalent to it. Does he mean you dont have things like magic powers or ultimate abilities? because that would be VERY out of place in most survival games.
Pals add some variety and are the star of the show when it comes to combat. As for you, the player, there is a lack of weaponry and variety. I think this will get addressed through EA though.
@@Vulkan_Gaming Ah okay, I can understand that. Like I dont need a gun system like borderlands in a game like this but if there is a distinct lack of variety like snipers, tranq guns, net launchers etc. that offer variety then yah that can get pretty samezi, or even like tier variety like a sawed off shotgun then pump then auto, stuff like that.
The fact that you can throw pals at the workstations is in the guide the game's tutorial tells you about very early on. Also, you can have your pals craft arrows a d almost everything else in the game like food, etc. And you have a lot of complaints and about a game that is in early access. Wow.
In the Streamer version that I got, the tutorials didn't include quite a bit, including the assignment of Pals. Which is why I pointed that out. And yes, you can have your Pals craft things for you. But if you are in a time crunch, you will need to get hands on as well. My thought process is that if you are spending money on a product, early access or not, you should know what is or isn't included, hence the "complaints". I would hate for someone to spend money based upon my review, then realize that things are missing or broken, and be upset that I didn't mention them ahead of time.
This seemed like a really fair and thought out review. I appreciated the video and it definitely helps in making the decision whether to get the game or not. I hope they address the dungeon aspect because that seems like a pretty glaring weakness but they have time to improve it. Overall, great video and you earned a sub!
Yoo, what’s up bro! my mom bought me a gameboy color Pikachu edition with the Pokemon yellow game included to my birthday when I was a kid and I was hooked after that! I have played literally every main line Pokémon game since, ( plus some spinoff) so if that’s not telling u how big Pokemon fan and how hype i am about this game then I don’t know who can!😂 And many Pokemon fans is already calling this Pokemon with guns. this game literally have everything that all the Pokémon game never had so I’m really hype about this game! I’m going to play it on Game Pass at first and then if I like it then I’m going to buy it or get a copy of it or something! I have always loved both monster catching game and survival game so this is is like a dream come true for me!🤩 i’m sure that this game isn’t for everyone but it’s still in early access and I hope that the developer is listening to the players feedback and I think everything should play out fine!👍 although I would like that they included evolution’s for the pal’s though, And as a shiny hunter myself i’m a bit disappointed that the shiny pals isn’t in a different color or types though, but besides all that, I’m going to grind the heck off out of this game for sure!😂👍
When I first saw early trailers, I was like, "Pass." But I watched/listened to a video from Asmongold and became interested. To me, it feels like an RTS. The game has base building, upgrading units, climbing a tech tree, and taking care of units. Something similar to first-person RTSs in the past like Battlezone and Urban Assault. Is this the wrong way to view this game? I mean does this game have elements of an RTS or am I just seeing things? It's on my Steam wishlist now.
I disagree about the combat system. I rarely use my pals outside of boss battles. I use my long rang weapon like a musket to get heavy damage at range then switch to my pistal to avoid the muskets slow reload. If I want to catch the pal rather then kill it I switch to the stun baton. Also don't forget about the dogs roll mechanic. Or the grenades.
For only 30$ looks way better graphic/gameplay than overpriced pokemon games full of bugs and not optimized 😂 hope nintendo see this as a wakeup call and hire better devs .

Certainly feels like they've used Craftopia as a stepping stone to get this game done. I see so many things directly from that game and it kinda worries me. But hopefully their roadmap will reveal a lot of things people want to see improved upon.

Definitely! Not saying these issues are permanent and will lead to the game's demise. Just want people to understand what the current experience will look like.
Your pals can do the crafting, the sheep can do handiwork for example. So no fixing needed.
Craftopia still in Alpha 4 years later. Hold the copium
@@fazoodle7972The game fairly recently had a massive update that made the world 1 map instead of split up maps. Also Ark was in early access for years as was Subnautica. Piss off scrub.
@@cipherstormwolf14The amount of YTers I see completely skipping over the automation aspect by putting pals to work is wild. They literally do all of the work. All of it. Once you catch your first Lamball, you never need to build anything manually again.
The real question is are you going to keep coming back and playing it or is this a one and done playthrough?
well...coming back will only happen after updates. It is a great game and i hade alot of fun...but i can already see whats in the world and what not. so far theres alot of pals...and thats it :D
No city, no big surprises, no events, no kinda story, etc. i hope they make it into what it can be
@@Shadowclaw25 There is a bit of story via Journals you find via exploring, there are several outposts around the map and villages as well, and there's an absolute ton of random dungeons, boss fights, and even "Gym" leaders.
@@vewyscawymonsta bro would be screaming during the first few hours of satisfactory.
Great interesting and informative review. Thanks for the upload
The combat does have some depth when it comes to your character, you can roll or backflip to avoid damage, you can use the environment to block some enemy attacks and you can bait enemy pals into attacking each other so the neutral Pals around could join the fight attacking your enemy alongside you (I baited a gang of Pangullets to attack Mammorath and it eradicated them for me)
You can also slide and also grapple to get to hard to reach locations for melee enemies.
Pal Balls could also be used to interrupt and cancel enemy attacks (only case this doesn't work is the tower bosses or if the ball level is too low for the enemy).
Great review man, didn't know about this game until earlier today, and your video made me really want the game and I'm super exited for it!
I envy you. I WISH I just found out abt it. I’ve been waiting on it for like 2 years or so😭
For the performance aspect on low end systems, I was able to play on a playable level on a work laptop with low power, no gpu, 8gb ram, and a intel 15 12th gen
Always love your work man, thanks for the vid!
Great video coming from the Arrekz review, night and day in terms of information and structure
It should run smoothly on the steam deck
I’ve heard a lot of reviewers say it runs surprisingly well on the Steam deck
Great video bro 👏
I think I'll keep an eye on this one. It would be nice if the combat system were a little more complex, however, most of the issues highlighted sound like relatively easy quality of life fixes.
2:40 just walks up casually and proceeds to beat the hell out of a sleeping pal 😂
You can also capture humans, fun fact!
@@Vulkan_Gaming You can do that in real life as well. It is just frowned upon by most local authorities.
That would be nice
I'm sorry. Survival ascended let's you just take the whole thing? I wish I had known that before I tore my place down for resources and moved to my new location.
@@Blasted2Oblivion Yep, with no timer, too. Place it, and you can pick it up 3 weeks later just fine.
I like the combat style tbh i hate how complicated other games make it, nice to relaz sometimes
I'm playing on an Xbox Series X and it looks good so far, so it can only go up from here! Can't wait for the updates, and my kids can't wait for me to let them play too!
So fire the best type for coverage. Nice.
Flame on.
there's a lot of freeze bugs and crash when you play multiplayer.
This game is giving you so many views! Bet that feels great. Thanks for the video
my main issue with craftopia is that they do updates differently from the xbox and the pc so even though it's going to be free on game pass do I have to worry of it not being updated as quickly as the steam version
This is the best review I've seen of Palworld so far. I'm considering this game, because there are plenty of things I hate about most survival games.. and this game seems to simplify the things that I really hate about survival games.
With the custom world settings you can remove pretty much all tedious aspects of survival.
@@WhitedudeaboveYeah, I bought in. I'm playing normal mode, save dropping my inventory. It's really nice for learning the ins-and-outs of the game
have the same pc specs as you so hopefully no perfomance issues ,that was my main worry
I have one question because I know people are saying it's like Ark And Pokemon and one concern I have is with Ark when you have pet dinosaurs and close the game the server is still running so if you stop playing the game for days they die, is that the same with this game where the servers are always running even when you close the game?
No
I feel like they should introduce something to make your character more interesting in combat. Right now it looks like playing fortnite with monsters. Those are good monsters, but yeah, the character needs something more to do.
Agreed. Skills, affixes, someting to add some flavor in there.
hey, played craftiopa early it had really a lot of problems early on they added so much to that game. this one might be bigger so they might put more time into developing it.
This kind of games doesn't have any special wepon combat. The focus is clearly on the pals.
Is there an option to change from the over the shoulder action camera, to the WoW style?
development of previous games is questionable. small team dishing out new ambitious games while older ambitious games are very undercooked is not a good look. I dig their willingness to try fun weird designs. (overdungeon can get bonkers)
Great stuff. Thanks!
please provide examples of other games, ones that allow you pick up an object and move it without breaking it ?, i would rather break it and get the RS back from it than having a move option....what if you wanted to move base across map, or just simple not want that object anymore and all you had was a move option ?...i don't see why they would add another mechanic / function because someone was to lazy to hold or press the break button and then go and place it somewhere else.
Cook food for the pals is not neccessary - berry-plantation is enough (and a food bowl! They'll evel fill it themselves!)
21:18 Just assign pals to it
All Handiwork pals can and will do it for you
The Correct answer to the title of this video is yes! 100% worth your time. Ark+Pokemon+devs who care = 100% win
I'll try it seeing as it's on Game Pass, but I've seen nothing to be overly excited about.
I love how fire creatures aluminate dark caves. "When you summon it."
I think this game is "Objectively IS." Blatantly ripping off multiple other games and to an extent I am okay with that.
This game is great well worth your time so YESDown load now. It is in beta not finished stage and as some little issues but well. Worth it
Combat doesnt sound lack luster with all those pals involved and seems more complex than that of ARK or at the very least equivalent to it.
Overall, great video and you earned a sub!
release date 19 januari?! on game pass? sweet. will be a cool weekend.
I have always loved both monster catching game and survival game so this is is like a dream come true for me!🤩
i’m sure that this game isn’t for everyone but it’s still in early access and I hope that the developer is listening to the players feedback and I think everything should play out fine!👍
although I would like that they included evolution’s for the pal’s though, And as a shiny hunter myself i’m a bit disappointed that the shiny pals isn’t in a different color or types though, but besides all that, I’m going to grind the heck off out of this game for sure!😂👍
When I first saw early trailers, I was like, "Pass."
But I watched/listened to a video from Asmongold and became interested.
It falls more into the "colony sim" category than RTS.
Thanks for the in depth review
I disagree about the combat system. I rarely use my pals outside of boss battles. I use my long rang weapon like a musket to get heavy damage at range then switch to my pistal to avoid the muskets slow reload. If I want to catch the pal rather then kill it I switch to the stun baton. Also don't forget about the dogs roll mechanic. Or the grenades.
do the pals agro/tank? it looks like you'd die if hit multiple times.
Yep! They will pull.
For only 30$ looks way better graphic/gameplay than overpriced pokemon games full of bugs and not optimized 😂 hope nintendo see this as a wakeup call and hire better devs .
Is this an MMORPG? How many people can play in a session? Is this a story based game? What’s the end goal other than catching all the PALS.
I don't like the part you have to hold to cook or build, they should add hold to auto, or something.
It's on game pass tomorrow so i will check it out for sure.
Game is 1005 worth $20 bucks. Game might even win GOTY if it keeps getting steam and fixes the bugs. It's an amazing game that you don't have to pay $100 for.
In Valheim you also can't move objects.
Dope, sounds like ill get to cook alot, favorite things to do in valheim and dont starve together was farm and cook for everyone else, now I can do it for cute fluffy critters instead of a bunch of douche bags ive labeled "friends" lol.
Tempted to get it but how long can this last before someone sues for copyright. xD
To not press F - your Pals exist for that!
Cool looking animals
Thanks for the honest vid instead of dishonest hype train bullshit
This is not pokemon for adults, thats another story.... This is just pokemon whit weapons and building.
This video did not give this game justice and keep in mind. The game is still in development. The game is awesome.
Certainly feels like they've used Craftopia as a stepping stone to get this game done. I see so many things directly from that game and it kinda worries me. Craftopia has gotten a lot of stuff added to it over the years but it stills just feels like a giant mess of features and mechanics. Dungeons being boring is my biggest concern, and it comes directly from Craftopia. Always the same. So boring. Really makes you not want to go and explore for them, even though it's needed.
But hopefully their roadmap will reveal a lot of things people want to see improved upon.
If it was a multiplayer I would be interested.
What happens if u dont eat, will the Hunger kill u or u just exhausted?
Brings you to 1hp
Does late game have to be guns or can other weapons still be viable?
Guns are pretty much the best DPS I've found for YOUR damage. Pals/riding pals are still top tier
@@Vulkan_Gamingyou can have partner pals that adds to your attacks without being sent out. So daedream and dazzi.
Definitely hoping the combat gets an update, Better animations or overhaul the system.
Just boils down to how the devs handle the game long term after it actually releases
After watching this game, there are so many things I wish pokemon would have in their game.
Can you pet the pals?
You can!
@@Vulkan_Gaming I'm sold in that case. I can't wait!
You can move your hand an inch away from them or sink it into their corporeal body but actually petting seems to be hard for your character to do.
i saw other players dodge hits, um did you not find the button/and or know about the button.? when i start a game i usually look at key binds to let me know what i can do
Sure did! Just didn't have any dodges in the clips I chose to use in the video. But yes, I use it often.
@@Vulkan_Gaming oh okay then sorry about that
