Original video: • Tone Sessions: Charlie...
As befits the instrument that he's playing, this guy somehow has a bass face and a mean solo face simultaneously.
Love Charlie, you can get lost in the fact he’s playing an extended range guitar but what is really incredible about him is his touch and sense of rhythm. A truly unique guitarist.
Can't believe I've not heard of this champ, such a tasteful player. When you said extended range, with the lowered low strings... I wasn't expecting such a gorgeous clean tone.
yeah man! The secret is the stereo output so you can EQ those strings and process them just like a bass!
@Levi Clay Yeah that's some quality engineering. Been tempted to delve into extended range so that's something I'll be looking into, very cool. I'm so used to extended range guitars being used for heavy music, or sometimes classical but I haven't heard one played like this. Buttery smooth.
The man is just ridiculous. An absolute treasure of a musician
I've actually had dinner with Charlie before. back when I worked at a small venue here in my town. I got tasked with entertaining the musicians that came through sometimes. he's a nice guy.
Wow...man's vibing on like 3 levels. Fascinating playing!
What a great channel man your are turning me on to some players!
Never heard of him and glad I've clicked on the demo - Beautiful choice of notes, very subtle and elegant - really, one of the best so far.
I've seen many players across the musical spectrum, but regardless of Instrument or genre, this is some of THE most TASTEFUL playing I've EVER heard.
Honestly, the only time I've heard more tasteful playing is by Mr. Victor Wooten himself. This is legendary.
LEVI is on god level making all of this transcriptions, tysm for your content man!
Ive actually never heard a guitar performance like this before
did you enjoy it is the question?!
@@LeviClay im not sure. If you listen to the ‘solo’ side not so much, if you listen to the ‘bass’ side not so much , if you put them together maybe! But they sound so different from each other.
Levi I think you showed us all the best ...Charlie Hunter on 7. String hybrid sounds smooth and totally independent bass rhythm lead and percussive effect...seamlessly
Merry Christ mas
Playing split dynamics with feel. I am impressed
That double output thing is really cool
Reading the title I thought, "is it actually gonna be that good" but then he said Charlie Hunter so now this is just where I shut up and watch. No one does it like Charlie, not even close
Ever considered doin' some Rit stuff? Definetly one of my personal favorites and a lot to learn from.
Charlie Hunter is the only guy that can play a guitar with more than 6 strings that doesn't sound like a complete clown.
All the other guys play the same stuff as they would on a 6 string.
I actually would not consider Charlie a guitarist. What he is doing is something else.
Guitarist or not, he is a great musician.
One of the best
@@LeviClay I have to agree with that. He has everything going for him. He is probably one of 10-ish "guitarists" in the world that can really dig deep, both harmonically and rhythmically. In the company of Holdsworth, Scott Henderson, Pat Metheny, John Scofield and such.
This guitar setup reminds me of my good friend, Nate Lopez.
Pretty sure I read something back in John Mayers early interviews with some guitar magazine where he named Charlie hunter as an influence or at least someone who’s playing he loved
Yes. I can’t recall where though.
Charlie Hunter played on “In Repair” from Mayer’s Continuum album
Goddamnit if charlie hunter isnt the most unbelievable guitar players I’ve ever heard live!! Simply amazing
He´s enjoying what he is doing.
Love his take on Fly Like an Eagle by Steve Miller
I don't have a seven string so I can't play this. Mail that one to me and I'll do it. Did I mention I'll also need a few hundred years to figure out how to play like Charlie? The first time I saw him with Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy and my mind was blown. He's amazing.
I like it how at 4:07 he seems to be saying: "btw. I love Bill Frissell".
hearing a lot of Jim Campilongo style harmony here
No way would I have ever listened to this blind and guessed that it was one musician, one instrument, one take. Would it be going too far to call this "otherworldly"?
One of John Mayer's guitar heroes too
I’m picturing a backstory where he’s had to fire one too many bassists. 😂
7 string metal riffers offended in 3...2...1.... (I love both but Charlie is undoubtedly #1 at what he does)
Proud 7 string owning metal head here. Amazing playing. 'Best' is subjective, as Levi well knows!
offended, nah.
inspired, hell yes!!
Not my bag, baby. Don't feel the bass notes really added much to this.
THALL!
Yea I made one of those all these insane riffs to go through that will probably break your in half if you tried
Good God, he is awesome 👌
michaael hedges, don ross i think you would like them
Whatever happened to mesa boogie…
Great work on the transcription. Charlie is in a class of his own. If you ever decide to do another Charlie Hunter transcription, this one is one of my favourites ua-cam.com/video/U33AsY5H_Ds/v-deo.html
I know I can't, my hands are tiny
Skill is there but this didn't speak to me at all.
Why didn't it djent bro?
I just have one word to say. Steve Howe.
That's two.
Super sexy groovy song.
