Thank you so much for these videos. I grew up in the city where the mindbender accident happened and I was always terrified hearing about the "west edmonton death coaster" as my friends called it. That fear has continued on to this day and I have never been on anything more than a kiddy coaster. I stumbled upon your videos and after watching all the ones about how coasters work and how safe they are I think I'm finally ready to try and ride a coaster when the parks open up again. Not sure if the mindbender should be my first, though.
I remember getting stuck at the block break on the Manta in Seaworld. We were still on our stomachs, and we were all staring at the metal floor put there. No one was panicking at all, and it was really cool and fun. We were even laughing about it more rather than panicking. We were stuck for about 5-10 minutes, but the ride resumed like normal.
I was on space mountain at Disneyland during the final ride of the night, and as my dad and I were making our way up the lift hill, the ride stopped and the lights came on. We never learned why it stopped, but the operator escorted us all out. Space mountain is weird af with the lights on. Like there's this random meteor floating around, even though it doesn't appear in the actual ride. Pretty cool experience.
I used to love it when space mountain would loose a train and go into block mode. If it happened when you were on the lift hill you used to be able to ride with the lights on. Not much to see at the time.. but was still cool to see how compact that ride was considering its not a short ride.
I have a weird story: I was waiting in line for Rip Ride Break Run at Universal, and i saw a couple of trains about to go onto a brake run, but then when they hit the brake runs, they totally stopped. The ride wasn’t broken down or anything, and the coaster was dispatching trains perfectly fine, so I was just like, “what’s going on?”
That's what's called stacking. You see it somewhat often on rides that run more than two trains, and it's the result of a combination of slower-than-expected dispatches and the block system working normally. B&M hypercoasters are infamous for this kind of thing.
That’s kinda weird because my experience with universal has the quickest dispatches. Maybe someone needed help getting on the ride while you were riding it.
@@moonlight_oats Like I said previously, stacking can happen quite often on rides with more than two trains. It doesn't take a lot to cause it either, just a few slightly slow dispatches in a row can cause the ride's dispatch timing to be thrown off. And since Rip Roarin' Rocket has so many trains, I'm surprised it doesn't stack more often.
I’m glad you make videos like these. Whenever I get scared to go on a roller coaster I can always just remember to myself that more people have died by falling into a bathtub than they have on a roller coaster.
These videos always make rollercoasters seem less scary but I also found out that a big reason I experience anxiety on rollercoasters is because of my vertigo so I can't ride most rollercoasters now.
Another time I've been stuck was on Journey to Atlantis in Seaworld San Diego. For anyone that doesn't know, it's a log flume and roller coaster hybrid. There's an elevator part where the ride vehicle ascends vertically, once you reach the top the vehicle rolls forward and continues the ride We rolled forward and the brakes kicked on. We were there for almost an hour, and a ride technician came to work on some kind of control box right next to me and we had a chat for some time. This must have been like... 2007 or 2008... jeez times flies
I only found your Channel about 2 weeks ago and I've watched like most of your videos already. I just wanted to say I really appreciate you saying that it wasn't an accident it was the roller coaster working as intended because a lot of people want to be negative about things like this when it should be a positive event. The creators of the ride and the park did exactly what they needed to do and so it was working as intended. So anyway just wanted to thank you again for putting this out there I wish it could go further I'm going to share on my social media
I randomly found your channel and I can’t lie I had a biased fear of these things but seeing you explain them, I rather enjoy these now. Still can’t ride because my body can’t handle that however I’m more understanding to the fact now.
Thanks for the info I always wondered what that clicking sound was. I went to Hershey Park in 2005 and I have to say it was pretty fun. I don’t remember all the rides I went on but I remember doing wild mouse and wildcat. One of the rides was closed the day I went. All I remember about it is that the track was red.
I've only been on one roller coaster when it stopped on the lift hill. I was eight years old and really freaked out. The older people near me kept saying stuff that freaked me out even worse. Thankfully, I grew up and eventually worked on that same ride. I learned that none of the things that they said could've happened. As a ride operator, I've only been at one ride when the train got stopped on the lift hill, which was good, because the other train was stuck in the breaks. The biggest issue we had with getting people safely through the ride (we would much rather you finish out the ride than be evacuated) was the parents of the kids stopped on the lift hill yelling at us that their kids needed to be taken off the ride right then. The ride was only acting up because of heavy rain. Since the first train wasn't leaving the brakes, the ride was doing what it was supposed to by stopping the second train on the lift. The misinformation needs to stop!
Very informative and helpful :3 watching your video has really helped me work through my fear of getting on a roller coaster, can't wait till I can go on one
Before I was really into rollercoasters and knew about these kind of things I was stopped on Iron Dragon due to someone pulling out a camera but I was freaking out.
At knobles in Pennsylvania the opening year of the impulse, the chain lift actually malfunctioned and just stopped. The people were perfectly fine and were just stuck on the hill for two hours. They didn’t roll back or have any harm come to them, just were stuck for awhile. That is the “worst” accident I’ve ever seen or heard of at knobles.
I only ever got stuck on Wildcat (CP) in 2007 and we had to be evacuated. And this year I got stopped on Magnum's lift due to a phone being pulled out. Gemini and Rougarou also got stopped, but those were after they had dispatched and hadn't even completely cleared the station.
1:23 As a fellow Pittsburgh Resident, Kennywood is my home park. During covid you have to hear that clicking noise so many tucking tunes and I’ve gotten horrible headaches lmao
I was on Sheikra several times before growing up. Busch Gardens is an amazing Park. The only time I ever got stuck there was at the very end Of the ride. We were like 40 ft away from the exit platform. We were stuck there for I believe are there 45 minutes to an hour. It would have been fine, but it was a cold day and in the front seats. But we did get to see the people at the nearby basketball game do stuff. And we could hear it pretty well as well. Eventually, they had to make a makeshift platform for us to get off. I'd say this was about 2012 or 2013 when this happened. I still ride Sheikra often. Same with all the rides at Busch Gardens. Including their historic original trains from the Civil War era converted to run on propane.
I’ve been stuck on a roller coaster twice too. I got stuck on the third lift hill on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad when I was 9, and we ended up being evacuated after being stuck there for 10 minutes. The second time was at Thunderhead on the very first run of the day, but I was only stuck for a couple minutes that time.
I got stuck on the green lantern rollercoaster in Six Flags Great Adventure. The most terrifying part was walking back down. I tried not to look down but there were gaps in the steps and I was scared of falling through it. Probably wouldn't have happened but at the time I was scared.
God I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to coasters and I hated that clicking noise going up but hearing about how it actually works is so informative and helpful! It doesn't make me like it any more, but it does help me understand what happens. Thank you! :)
i’ve only ever ridden one roller coaster in my life, they’re very spooky to me, but videos like this make me want to ride more ! i really just have to get past that initial “oh god oh shit”
I was listening to this video while in another tab and clicked back because the Phantom's Revenge lift chain sound is so iconic I recognized it immediately. That's my home park!
0:31 Okay but WHY can I instantly recognize that as the nearest Six Flags lmao. Pink and orange is Raging Bull, and it looks like the American Eagle (I think, haven't been there in a while) behind it.
I got stuck on volcano: the blast coaster. It couldn’t get enough momentum to make it out of the volcano and we slid back down into the tunnel. They brought planks to help us off and gave us free ride passes to come back later and skip the line. It was honestly a lot of fun to sail back down the first hill backwards.
The only coaster I got "stuck on"(longer than a few minutes that was not as precautionary measure) was that goddamn Superman ride at SF over Georgia. We were not upside down per se, but stuck in that chest towards the ground, arms, legs and face/head dangling due to gravity. Over 95 degree heat and 2 hours, many were treated by on-site medics, I hurt for days due to the strain of trying to keep my head held up and the blood flow to peoples arm's was becoming a problem because the seats were actually pressing against the brachial artery if you just let your arms dangle. We called it a day after that and just drank beers 🤣
Saw the "new" steel phantom in there... nice. I was a big fan of the old one myself. Rode that sucker 25 times in a row when me and a buddy bout had the park to ourselves. The operators just let us stay seated all but a few times. Kentwood was legit like that. Might explain my neck issues later in life, lol! That sucker was a rough ride but in a good way, in my opinion.
I remember getting my sister to go on a spinning coaster for the first time and I said something like: "good luck surviving" or something as the train left the station, I had to wait a train with my dad because of seating, but... the train my sister was on stopped on the lifthil and needed to be evac'd... so that was my sister's experience with her now favorite ride. Seriously she loves it, it used to be my favorite too but they added a B&M wing coaster in 2018, which became my favorite from the first ride I had, til the last one last year... now the park is closed due to a certain virus. .w.
One season of Cedar Point I was stopped on Magnum roughly 10 times. The train usually stops at the bottom of the hill. All of those stops were for seatbelt or a personal camera/phone. Almost every time going up the lift hill I wave to the 2 cameras.
I recently visited cedar point with my class for an 8th grade trip and on Gemini (so I've heard) a train would not leave the station so 4 of my friends (one mentally challenged with autism) got stopped on the block brake and remained up there for 20 minutes with about 9 bees swarming us... Its a good thing we love gemini...
Joker at 2:29 gets stuck in the valley all the time. It's rarely even open because they are always taking it out of the valley fr test rides. I'm surprised they haven't replaced it yet.
I got stopped on a Disney ride (something with Finding Nemo - Crush's Coaster) which was indoors. It was strange to debark that one. They had to turn on the lights and we exited a walk way and down some stairs. It was neat to see the layout of the ride which would normally be hidden by the darkness.
Ive only been evacuated once. I was probably like 10 at Six Flags and i was on Rolling Thunder. Close to the top and honestly, everybody on the ride took it very well and was making jokes on the way back down.
why don't they create a powered, unmanned 'cart' (maybe a single car with a motor replacing the seats, then having the front and back cars have a connector (maybe something like on trains so it can couple without having to have someone manually couple them.). So if the train valleys, they move the 'cart' onto the track (via transfer track), slowly drive it to where the train has valied (The guests would be evacuated as usual) the cart would connect to the train, and pull it back to the station?
Happened to me once, terrified the hell out of me, I remained calm, the Rollercoaster continued, nothing happened. But I still didn't go on any other rides that day 😂 it's so dumb to know it's safe and still be scared of it.
I got stuck at the very end of the defunked Roller-Soaker at Hershey (I wondered if it happened a lot, cause it closed after a pretty short run- then again I remember if being really short and not excited or thrilling at all, and this was when I was a small child that still feared most coasters and wasn’t even tall enough for most of the coasters in the park at the time. Pretty sure it was just a huge gimmick with water element) We were close enough to the loading station, so the operators were able to toss us some towels, we didn’t have to evacuate. But we had to sit there for 45 minutes, waiting for maintenance to come and make the cart move the few feet to the unloading area. No comps to skip a line for some other ride for wasting our time. Not even free chocolate. Just 45 minutes in a rollercoaster seat with a small towel that was thrown at us (luckily we weren’t stuck in an area where little brat kids could use the water springs from bellow to continue blasting us with water mercilessly lol) But you bet 8 year old me LOVED to brag to all my classmates how I “got stuck on a roller coaster over the summer!” Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Things that can stop a train on a lift: Operator depresses lift stop, ride stop, or emergency stop button. Ride control system generates an error and stops the ride. Another train has not cleared the block or requisite blocks ahead. Power failure. Lift chain breaks. Mechanical failure of the lift motor/geartrain.
I once got stuck on the lifthill and me and the rest of the passengers in the train started to sing songs to spend the time, that was the most fun I ever had at an amusement park. about 20 minutes later the lifthill started working again and the ride went on as normal
I was one of those people that only did the "tamer" roller coasters. These videos make me want to try some of the more exciting ones, now knowing how safe they are.
Also: Getting stuck is kind of a jackpot: Most likely you'll get a free Fast-Pass (or whatever is the equivalent for your park) or some other kind of compensation. When I worked at Phantasialand, every evacuation was overseen by 2 ppl: a maintenance worker and someone from guest relations, who handed out Quickpasses for everyone effected.
I have been stuck on a coaster one time so far, Lost Gravity at Walibi Holland. The ride broke down, and the car I was in had stopped at the final brake run before the station, I sat there for almost half an hour in the blazing sun until a maintenance worker got me out.
So glad you’re debunking misleading media. You’re doing great things.

That's literally the only way to move it at that point unless there's some kind of motorized cart that would push it back
@@rrai1999 Doesn't Silver Dollar City have a maintenance vehicle for Wildfire that is designed to do that?
They take it apart anyways every now and then for maintenance
yes
i love the phantom’s clicking at kennywood☺️ terrifying at first but once you ride it, so exciting
I love the rollar coaster clicking sound!!! Makes me so happy
This is great, if only GP would actually watch it 🤣🤣🤣
What does GP stand for?
@@rublie1426 General Public. People who casually go to parks for fun.
Your channel is growing fast. Nice job man!
I have a weird story:
I was waiting in line for Rip Ride Break Run at Universal, and i saw a couple of trains about to go onto a brake run, but then when they hit the brake runs, they totally stopped.
VestedUTuber ah. Thanks! Ive heard of stacking, just never really understood it. Thanks for clearing it up!
That’s kinda weird because my experience with universal has the quickest dispatches. Maybe someone needed help getting on the ride while you were riding it.
@@moonlight_oats
Like I said previously, stacking can happen quite often on rides with more than two trains. It doesn't take a lot to cause it either, just a few slightly slow dispatches in a row can cause the ride's dispatch timing to be thrown off. And since Rip Roarin' Rocket has so many trains, I'm surprised it doesn't stack more often.
Coaster Fusion hehe that was probably me on the coaster because it happened to me
I’m glad you make videos like these. Whenever I get scared to go on a roller coaster I can always just remember to myself that more people have died by falling into a bathtub than they have on a roller coaster.
GP: "please use what you learned in this video today"
*ride stops*
Me: "BOOOOOOOOO, who took out a cell phone?"
These videos always make rollercoasters seem less scary but I also found out that a big reason I experience anxiety on rollercoasters is because of my vertigo so I can't ride most rollercoasters now.
Thanks so much! Your UA-cam channel is very factual and reassuring, and I’m trying to build up the courage to go on some big roller coasters. Thanks!
Thank you for saying what that clicking noise going up the hill is. That part always freaks me out because I had no idea what it was.
I was literally one train away from getting an evac on Toro!! The train was stopped on the lift hill and evacced
Busch Gardens is like not even a mile from my house. I've rode that ride before.
the news is such a hooligan when talking about rollercoaster E-stops
Thank you so much for your rollercoaster videos they are just fantastic ❤
I only ever got stuck on Wildcat (CP) in 2007 and we had to be evacuated. And this year I got stopped on Magnum's lift due to a phone being pulled out. Gemini and Rougarou also got stopped, but those were after they had dispatched and hadn't even completely cleared the station.
@Dusk Raccoon it's last year was 2011. It was quite a fun small coaster.
(A SIDE HOLD) That was probably me who stopped the Gemini Train!
I love your vids. I first learned about block brakes playing Rollercoaster Tycoon and its purpose as far as safety. Glad to see you debunking media bs
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lift hill clicking sound! I even get excited hearing it in these types of videos!! ❤️
Love these vids keep doing them. 😌
The second time was at Thunderhead on the very first run of the day, but I was only stuck for a couple minutes that time.
the Phantom has the best lift clicking noise lol
I think the New Revolution has a better sound.
Thank you for making content like this!!
Thank you! :)
I distinctly remember the Mind Bender at Six Flags Over Georgia getting stuck upside down once.
i’ve only ever ridden one roller coaster in my life, they’re very spooky to me, but videos like this make me want to ride more ! i really just have to get past that initial “oh god oh shit”
This...has made me less scared of rollercoasters, thank you very much
I was listening to this video while in another tab and clicked back because the Phantom's Revenge lift chain sound is so iconic I recognized it immediately. That's my home park!
I don't particularly like rollercoasters but this is amazing for my anxiety
I got stuck on the final brake run of Vortex at CW once. 25 minutes of 9 year olds screaming.
Lol
I gpt stuck on yukon
Seriously she loves it, it used to be my favorite too but they added a B&M wing coaster in 2018, which became my favorite from the first ride I had, til the last one last year... now the park is closed due to a certain virus.
.w.
Let's be real, 99% of enthusiasts would be celebrating if a ride stopped, or even had to be evactuated.
Was stacked on X2 today and all i heard was: are we stuck? Why aren’t we going? Hello?!
Woot! Woot! for Kennywood Phantom Menace at @1:21
Your channel makes me very happy
Making my life better than ever before not afraid 😌 thanks for your help
The steel phantom in this video is a really great ride ! But perfect for this video it gets stuck on that incline a lot
For some reason the anti rollbacks make the lift more intense and it sounds satisfying at the same time
Ive only been evacuated once. I was probably like 10 at Six Flags and i was on Rolling Thunder. Close to the top and honestly, everybody on the ride took it very well and was making jokes on the way back down.
hey i was on magnum too when it stopped because a guest pulled out their phone! summer 2019!
why don't they create a powered, unmanned 'cart' (maybe a single car with a motor replacing the seats, then having the front and back cars have a connector (maybe something like on trains so it can couple without having to have someone manually couple them.). So if the train valleys, they move the 'cart' onto the track (via transfer track), slowly drive it to where the train has valied (The guests would be evacuated as usual) the cart would connect to the train, and pull it back to the station?
Do the rollercoaster hangover, it was in lisseberg 1997
Happened to me once, terrified the hell out of me, I remained calm, the Rollercoaster continued, nothing happened. But I still didn't go on any other rides that day 😂 it's so dumb to know it's safe and still be scared of it.
wait this makes me less scared of rollercoasters,, thank you so much
I got stuck at the very end of the defunked Roller-Soaker at Hershey (I wondered if it happened a lot, cause it closed after a pretty short run- then again I remember if being really short and not excited or thrilling at all, and this was when I was a small child that still feared most coasters and wasn’t even tall enough for most of the coasters in the park at the time.
Just 45 minutes in a rollercoaster seat with a small towel that was thrown at us (luckily we weren’t stuck in an area where little brat kids could use the water springs from bellow to continue blasting us with water mercilessly lol)
But you bet 8 year old me LOVED to brag to all my classmates how I “got stuck on a roller coaster over the summer!”
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Things that can stop a train on a lift:
Operator depresses lift stop, ride stop, or emergency stop button.
Thats why i would love to be evacuated. +you can see things you would not if you were a normal guest. especially at Phantasialand they are well hidden
Him:its nearly IMPOSSIBLE for a rollercoaster to stop while its upside down
Me:Boi I got stuck on A ROLLERCOASTER UPSIDE DOWN
I have been stuck on a coaster one time so far, Lost Gravity at Walibi Holland. The ride broke down, and the car I was in had stopped at the final brake run before the station, I sat there for almost half an hour in the blazing sun until a maintenance worker got me out.
