I have a Gibson Les Paul Tribute that I bought because surprisingly.... it played like a DREAM. However I hated the stock pickups. I went down the rabbit hole making changes. After several different pickup sets, several different wiring styles (modern vs 50's), I settled on this set of Dimarzios! The Super Distortion in the bridge, and the 36th anniversary PAF in the neck, and a 50s style wiring. Holy MOLY this guitar sounds absolutely phenomenal now!
It's the best pickup combo of all time. I've been using it since the mid 80s. I've got a Super Distortion on a Hofner Shorty right now which is just a little modest singlebucker travel guitar with a Gibson scale and it rocks hard. Sounds amazing. And very versatile with parallel and coil splitting.
One thing I'm not too clear on: is that the DP103 PAF 36th Anny or the DP223 PAF 36th Anny Bridge in the neck? Some use the DP223 in the neck since it's hotter. If it's a DP103, how, Joe, do you set both up to be balanced with each other?
Thanks for the video. I am having a custom guitar built and it will have the same combo. The guitar will be mahogany body with a quilt maple top, eastern maple neck, with ebony top. Neck-thru body and stainless steel frets. All of these factors play a large role in the pickup combo. The Super Distortion might have been a bit darker sounding on some classic metal, but my hope is the stainless steel frets will give it some chime. Either way, it’s a combo on mahogany that many great players have used over the years. You’re another one to do so.

Very good demo of a classic pickup combination. Any thoughts on the Super 2 in the neck position, instead of DP103?

Great demo Joe.
Hi, is the PAF a 36th anniversary version? and DP103 (nek pickup) or DP223 (bridge pickup)? thanks
I was playing with the idea of putting these into a 335 clone. You think these would work in a semi hollow body ?
I think 6-String might be sponsored by DiMarzio
awful lotta talkin',not much playin'.
