I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this video :) I'm currently 29 myself, and starting a Foundation Diploma at Leeds Arts University this September. I've got a lot of fears and anxieties about being the oldest there, about being out of my depth physically, socially and artistically, and about it being so long since I was in school etc. etc. (Plus, I mean, I hope I can even go after this whole Covid-19 thing!) After watching a couple of other videos of past students now, yours is the first that has actually made me feel better about it rather than more scared, so thank you for that! Your attitude is just so positive and excited, I really hope my own experience is as freeing and useful as yours was :)
Hey!!! I know someone who did their foundation at Leeds and had a blast! Your gonna find this such an amazing experience! I had so much anxiety going back, and to be honest even getting to uni has kicked off my anxiety like taking exams and writing art history essays I felt so out of my depth. But honestly you can do anything you put your mind to. And even taking the step to go back into education is huge!!!! Fingers crossed everything settles so you can get started. I’m so glad this video helped you and made you feel better about going, and keep me posted with how everything goes!!!
@@stephaniemitchard I just wanted to pop back in here and say that I'm on the course now, about to start week 3! :) I watched your video again today for some kind of reassurance I suppose? I just want to say thank you again. Just before I watched your video I was seriously considered giving it a miss altogether because of all the anxiety I was feeling, and all the lockdown stuff. I was terrified that being both a bigger lady, low confidence and a lot older, I'd be way out of my depth. Your experience here really gave me the boost of confidence I needed to start. Your excitement and passion are honestly contagious, girl, please keep that going!! But anyway, yeah :) Just wanted you to know how much this helped some random stranger in Leeds. Haha! Also congratulations on your little man! I just saw on your Instagram :D

Hey! Foundation was honestly one of the best years of my entire life! It’s so freeing, I made so much work and felt so inspired!!! Are you planning on going to uni afterwards?
@@stephaniemitchard Thanks for your reply hun, love your accent too, can't beat a scouse accent! haha I'm from Belfast! That's great you loved it, it's hard practicing on your own but when you're kind of 'forced' lol you get lots done so i'm looking forward to it. I'm defo going to go to uni next year, what did you decide to study in the end- fine art or textiles? would love to see a video on uni life for mature students! :)
wee lynn I’m deffo planning on doing one, uni has been quite difficult to be honest, it’s a big change and a lot to get use to. I ended up doing fine art. Its that freedom that you can make anything, like sometimes I do textiles (I got a fab new sewing machine for xmas and I’ve been doing some free hand embroidery) right now I’m focusing on drawing and painting, I was doing screen printing but having no access to the space has changed my direction. I’m in my second year now, it’s been quite disrupted with university strikes and the obvious situation, but it’s so amazing having your own studio space, next year though I’ll be going part time because I’m pregnant, the Uni I go to is like a dual degree we do art history and fine art, art history is so difficult but it’s so amazing and the foundation of knowledge I have is crazy, like the experience of going to galleries now is completely different, but the thought of writing a dissertation makes me freak out haha! So next year I’ll focus on studio then the year after I’ll focus on art history. Are you thinking of studying in Belfast?

Sounds amazing, you should show some of your work on here or are you on instragram? love getting inspo from other artists. Yes its crazy with this situation, my deadline is this week but a lot of my art is in college but we can only do what we can. REally sounds like uni has been great for you as an artist, looking forward to your vid! so much of what you say is like me haha I focus on drawing and painting mostly and I am aiming to get a sewing machine, but mostly for clothing as I'm trying to live more sustainably. We did some this year and I was crap at it haha but its a great skill to have. I'm going to be studying in University of Ulster so will be Belfast. Hope its not too hectic for you right now and thanks for getting back to me :)
