Me watching this... Megan: "Does anyone else's partner just jump around from thing to thing and like doesn't finish them and just moves on...?" Me: "Sounds a lot like ADHD" Megan: "Like we never would've got this done, he just would've moved on to that and I wouldn't be able to paint!" Me: "I really think that's ADHD.." Jack:"ADHD". 😂😂
I genuinely have a lot of subscribers that i follow religiously. But you guys are the only ones i hit the like button for. Especially when you have your build series.
I've had my Cruiser for 19 years, done over 450K in her, and have never found a name ... originally it was the "Horse With No Name", but she's now "The Old Girl". Am thoroughly enjoying the series. You are an editing talent Megan.
The reason they're called floating floorboards is because they float, they expand and contract with the temperature, you can't butt them up against anything, you have to leave a gap and then you use an angle nailed into whatever they skirt vertically to conceal the gap... and whatever you put on top of them can't be connected to them or they'll warp ;-)
21:29 With the half rounds, I’d cut all the vertical pieces and do a 45 bevel on the top edge before nailing them on. Then finish by adding another piece along the bottom as a skirt/kickboard.
Bertie and Mertle. There. Car named! 😂 Guys hope you have done your calculations on weights with the van and Bertie combined mass etc. do your homework or you may be leaving no capacity for your travel gear inside the van or even the car for that matter. The feature bed piece looks ace but that is a weight penalty. Less is…. Well, less!…. Saves fuel and makes the van more drivable on the road. Loving the series can’t wait to see her all finished and on your new adventures.
Few things.. To prevent the bed head top from bowing, use Velcro or a single timber strip in the middle. Fill in nail holes with wood putty for a cleaner look. When cutting multiple pieces, set up a stop on the drop saw to streamline the process and avoid measuring each piece individually. Came back cause I realised how that all sounded, but it was because of your drop saw comment in the video. I’ll shut up now 🥰
To fix your beading length mix up, run a piece of beading horizontally across the bottom. Cut a piece as a spacer and use a multi tool to run the blade across the top of your bead spacer to trim the bottom off each piece of beading. I'm surè you got one in your Ryobi kit. If not, buy one you won't regret it. Stain your horizontal piece and install it below your neatly trimmed ends. Yippee, in building to hide something, you make a feature of it.
Make thicker ply covers so they just cover the dowels for the bed head and router the underside edges so they locate within the dowels. This would protect the top edge of the dowels.
Oh my gosh, how hard is it, I mean really...we are doing our own Van build, he's a Toyota SLWB Commuter and seriously we get to the end of the day and hi-five that we didn't kill each other, there is soooo much detail and soooo many moving parts! Super fun tho and great to see progress. The bedroom area is amazing 👏 love ❤❤
Try small magnets on the under the sliding part with the magnet on the frame these are often used on wardrobe doors etc. depending in the size you may have to chisel a small piece out of the frame to inset them. This will also make them secure while travelling 😎😎😎
Use Velcro around all edges of top to hold bedhead tops down, ive done similar in Troopy build. Drill a finger hole in each top to lift out. No hinges needed.
If you attach a single piece of wood down the middle with stop the Bowing and make them Ridged. Looks Great guys, my wife and I love your Videos, keep up the great work.
How about Ashley as it is the colour of ash. Love what you both are doing with the van. Also a little tip Jack not that is much of a problem because you seem to be doing ok but some times if you put a piece of sacrificial wood behind when you cut small timber it is easier to cut
One thing for sure Jack, is your kids and grandkids are going to love the shed full of rarely used power tools. 😅😁 Build looks great so far. Looking forward to the finished product.
Cut a piece of thicker ply or pine to match the opening of your bed head and the clamp & glue the ply on top of it. Then it will sit in place without moving and will also prevent bowing. Drill a 32 or 40mm hole through the middle as a finger pull
Do some Small pine pieces under your thin ply to use as locator pieces for your bed head. They'll not only stop the bowing they'll also prevent them moving around whilst you're travelling.
This was a ludicrous good vlog!!!!! Jack....repeat after me......Megan is ALWAYS right!! What you have done is incredibly nice......those half-dowels are an awesome idea. Just an amazingly good project and thank you for sharing......
Re the bed head , maybe glue timber brace underneath the ply and that should stop it from bowing. Not sure there is a way to skid it , but might be better to drill 20mm hole in the centre of each one and use that to lift up to get access to the storage area.
We are renovating a 1984 pop top. We do bicker occasionally, usually when my husband rushes ahead and doesn’t listen to me 😂 We have got some helpful hints from you. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I think your car should have a name from the Victorian era like Myrtle’s is. Something like Bernard (Bernie) Archie, Arthur, Henry 🤷♀️they can be a couple ❤
Use magnets on the bedhead ply to stop it from bowing and also to hold it in place. It's something simple but you will appreciate it. The bedroom is coming together nicely. 👏
So glad you got the drop saw. I know there's a limit to how many tools you can buy, but for cutting sheet material ( even drawer parts, ) a track saw is the perfect solution. Deadly accurate and very easy to use. I've recently built a drawer system for my 4x4 and bought the cheapest track saw I could find because I only needed it for this project. It's an Ozito which comes with 2 x 700 mm tracks then bought an extra 1400 mm track. You can join the tracks together to form a2800 mm track for your full sheets of plywood. With Ozito, you just need to make sure everything is calibrated correctly, throw away the blade and buy a quality one. BTW caravan project is coming along beautifully. Cheers, Jason
I did say this was a crazy idea. But I am just a dumb old man who knows nothing. You could have bought a second hand van and still doing what you do. Have always enjoyed following you two..
I think you should make the head board like a vertical draw that lifts up and lock in place, it would be easier to access everything in it and also look really cool.
Suggestion for dowel meets floor gaps. Lay a 3mm packer or similar on the floor and cut with multi-tool. The even gap will allow for thermal and movement expansion and solve the visual irregularities.
Love watching you pair the van is coming together nicely, the ply lids glue a piece of framing timber or aluminum shs on the under side & paint both sides, name for the 100 “Marvin” towing “Mertal” keep up the great work 👍👍
I just grow more and more proud with each video you put out at how well and how good of a job you’re both doing!! You are amazing and the caravan is looking so fricken good 😍😍
i had to refit a 23ft millard caravan for a mate a couple of years back. i can definitely relate to taking a day to figure out what the plan is hahaha. if i could share photos through here i would!!
So good that you are continuing this build, it's coming together nicely. I have a smaller version of your caravan and totally understand the stuff ups along the way, keep at it as you get to a point where it starts to take shape.
looks fantastic!! i would definitely fill the holes in the wood from the nail gun. as the nails might rust. there is specific timbermate wood filler (like a putty) for that job. they use it for skirting board holes from the nail gun too. well done team! can’t wait to continue watching.
What a great result! Looks awesome. Maybe with the bed-head covers you could cut them both in half again which may reduce the bowing.. I'd just holesaw some finger holes in each one for lifting. Cheers!
For the bedhead, I note that others have suggested bolting a timber piece underneath, however this may make it a challenging to slide... my suggestion is to glue some marine carpet underneath to not only maintain the shape, the carpet will fill gaps, deaden any noise and still be able to slide as your original intent. Just my opinion! Absolutely love your energy and your build guys!
Maybe Floyd for the Cruiser, but really I did like one of the other suggestions of Vodka! If wondering why, ask ChatGPT, I just thought it'd be funny? PS: the suggestion is not saying you guys are criminal, just less welll known than you should be!
The way Jack keeps calling the Landcruiser a "beautiful beast" , you'll have to call it Fabio🤣. That bed looks so comfy, very sophistimacated👍👍 Safe builds guys🤙🤙
Doing a great job guys! I also thought 1/4 quad might fix the bottom of the bed. The top will be covered by bedding. The bed head top, piano hinge and magnets perhaps and the usb points someone else said ,a great idea. 😊😊
Mark a line (in pencil) across the dowels, use the multi tool to trim the tops level. The bottom can be no more gaps and painted. You guys could go with perspex for the top of the bead head, and include some led lighting to add some ambient lighting. Hope this helps!
Looks great!! For the bed head lid- Could just do piece of wood in the centre of the lids- make it the size of the hole so it fits into the hole and holds it in place. Then could just cut out a finger hole out like a round circle a few cms round to be able to put your finger in to pull it up.
Great video you two! Detail to the Max with the bed and what a great feature to the van! Well done! And the fact that you've kept going and have videod it all is so fresh and you're right Jack that there's hardly anyone that shows a van build all the way through! And I reckon that the Toyota should be called, "Dusty"! Thx again lovin your handwork, Phil
Glad to see you two enjoying the satisfaction of doing it yourselves. Like when they say, enjoy the journey as much as the destination, but in this case enjoy the build as much as the finished product. Just something to think about, your bookshelf looks great, but the very rear of a van is an area that tends to bounce things around so you may want to consider a net or something to hold the books in place while you are traveling.
There are a number of channels who have full builds of caravans. "Drew Builds Stuff" "Xyla Foxlin" have both built caravans from scratch. Once you sub to their channels a lot more caravan builds will appear. Just remember a tiny home is pretty much the same thing as a caravan only slightly larger scale. I wish I could remember more YT channels for you but they will show up in your YT home feed. Trying to find a specific task tutorial would be nearly impossible. The drop saw gives you the ability to make multiple cuts which are exactly the same length. It also give you the opportunity to cut angles on the X and Y plains.
Sorry to comment twice, yeah make an internal fram for the bed head too same size as the frame inside that way it will fit snug and if everything is square should also allow to slide
Its coming along nicely and you are both truly amazing with the build. with the bedhead space lid, could you put a sliding mechanism with panelling that slides open and close.
Me watching this... Megan: "Does anyone else's partner just jump around from thing to thing and like doesn't finish them and just moves on...?" For the bed head storage lid, frosted perspex with 20mm holes as finger handles the run small LED strip inside. Will give an awesome effect.
Not a bad idea at all!!
Coming along nicely guys...😉😉
Couldn't agree more. That would like fantastic. Get a string of remote controlled colour changing LED's. Very romantic
A name idea for the hundred Dougy.. a tribute to Malcolm Douglas 🤞🏾😁
That bedroom looks incredible, you should be very proud 😃 the best part of the video was definitely the bloopers! Keep them coming! 😂
21:29 With the half rounds, I’d cut all the vertical pieces and do a 45 bevel on the top edge before nailing them on. Then finish by adding another piece along the bottom as a skirt/kickboard.

2nd the wood putty to cover the nail holes. 👍
Thanks for the laugh at the end 😘😘❤️❤️

To stop the thin ply from bowing, you could use rare earth magnets, recess them into the base and stick them onto the ply to snap down tight
Love the bedroom, and I think vodka would be a good name for the car, vodka cruiser
Make thicker ply covers so they just cover the dowels for the bed head and router the underside edges so they locate within the dowels.
This would protect the top edge of the dowels.
Larry, the landcruiser 🎉

you could frame those sliders on the bed with aluminum top and bottom, it would add structure and style.
Try small magnets on the under the sliding part with the magnet on the frame these are often used on wardrobe doors etc. depending in the size you may have to chisel a small piece out of the frame to inset them. This will also make them secure while travelling 😎😎😎
Those pieces on the bed might look nice upholstered in the same fabric as the lounge area
Use Velcro around all edges of top to hold bedhead tops down, ive done similar in Troopy build. Drill a finger hole in each top to lift out. No hinges needed.

for the uneven dow on the floor, glue down a length of rope trim
Why don’t you try hinges for the top of the bed 🛌.
One thing for sure Jack, is your kids and grandkids are going to love the shed full of rarely used power tools. 😅😁 Build looks great so far. Looking forward to the finished product.
I was thinking that they are paying their rent in power tools.

Lookn good guys, well done 👏. Luv your banter and being so raw, followed u guys for from the start and still luving it all
Woohoo, have been waiting 😅
Hope you enjoy the episode!!!

That bed head looks like its the perfect size for wine bottles!!! Just a thought! Well done guys.
Use magnets on the bedhead ply to stop it from bowing and also to hold it in place. It's something simple but you will appreciate it. The bedroom is coming together nicely. 👏
Good one, Jack!
For the storage behind bed you can get strip magnets and put them around the edge. Should be able to slide and snap into place. 😊
😊😊😊😊Perfect 😊
Awesome job guys 💯👌

I think you should make the head board like a vertical draw that lifts up and lock in place, it would be easier to access everything in it and also look really cool.
Screw a straight piece of timber along base of tops to keep them rigid.
Yesss we did have that thought afterwards! Think that’s exactly what we’ll do 😁
Sylvester is my pick for the name of the car! She's tidy too 👌
Wow Jack and Megan the caravan is coming on nice love the energy keep going cheers
Suggestion for dowel meets floor gaps. Lay a 3mm packer or similar on the floor and cut with multi-tool. The even gap will allow for thermal and movement expansion and solve the visual irregularities.
For bed head from bowing add a peice timber to underneath in middle
Bertyl & Myrtle Turtle
Rippa EP!!!!!

Love ya work guys keep it up 🤟
You have to call the landcruser Eroll 😊
Larry the Landcruiser 👌🏻
Looks very posh for a caravan, love it ❤
Call the car Crepe, then you have Crepe Myrtle 😂
Or Beech (tree name like Myrtle but also beach)
Love your vids. Expecially the FJ45 build. I would call your new Landcuiser Vincent.
Your bedroom is looking really good guys. I bet you’ll be glad when it’s all finished and you can go off touring.
Love watching you guys, the Van build is awesome
So good that you are continuing this build, it's coming together nicely. I have a smaller version of your caravan and totally understand the stuff ups along the way, keep at it as you get to a point where it starts to take shape.
5:40 I had the exact same experience when I bought those half-round dowels for a project! Much more expensive than anticipated haha.
Thank you! The dowels look great! Can’t wait for the next episode!

The dowel looks fantastic and in keeping with the vintage look. Great job. You inspire me to get busy on my motorhome.
Marvin and Myrtle 😛
You guys are amazing!
Maybe Floyd for the Cruiser, but really I did like one of the other suggestions of Vodka!
If wondering why, ask ChatGPT, I just thought it'd be funny?
PS: the suggestion is not saying you guys are criminal, just less welll known than you should be!
Just put a floor mat in front of the uneven dowels to cover up. Will be nice under your feet getting out of bed in the mornings.
Yeah good point! 🥰
The way Jack keeps calling the Landcruiser a "beautiful beast" , you'll have to call it Fabio🤣.

It's looking good, kinda Tiki, DualEx Channel is good for ideas.
Jackmeg for the cruiser
There’s lots of van builds out there with the dowel trim feature 😍👍🏽
Congrats on the drop saw. I bought a panel saw and wouldn't give it up for anything. Makes working with wood so simple 👍🏻😁
Makes a huge difference hey!!
Thanks Jack and Megan for another great vlog ! I love how your bedroom turned out! 💯 frothing on watching your build series 👌 stay safe guy's cheers
Coming along great , it will all work out
Wow another great episode. The bedroom is fantastic. Well done, guys.
For the name Lando
looks fabulous 😀
Place a cleat at the bottom of the floor to cover the small gaps😊
Nice work! It looks amazing!
Thanks so much Erik! 🩵
I feel for you Jack
Keep smiling mate
🙃
Mark a line (in pencil) across the dowels, use the multi tool to trim the tops level.
The bottom can be no more gaps and painted.
You guys could go with perspex for the top of the bead head, and include some led lighting to add some ambient lighting.

Oooo I LOVE that idea thank you! And yes very helpful, really appreciate it 🙏🏼
Not sure what the problem is, it's perfect!!
(Oh and Clyde the Cruiser!)
Myrtle is looking beautiful as!!
Myrtle and Clyde lol!!
Looks great!! For the bed head lid- Could just do piece of wood in the centre of the lids- make it the size of the hole so it fits into the hole and holds it in place. Then could just cut out a finger hole out like a round circle a few cms round to be able to put your finger in to pull it up.
A bit of 1/4 round dowel at the bottom of the bed
You could use Perspex for your bed head lids with a little handle to lift up for easy access
Great video you two! Detail to the Max with the bed and what a great feature to the van! Well done! And the fact that you've kept going and have videod it all is so fresh and you're right Jack that there's hardly anyone that shows a van build all the way through!

With the dowels glue paper to backside and then you its all in one long piece...then nail in place

Thanks so much Ron! ☺️🩵
Hi Guys. Great video's. As for a name for the 4x4 " Grunter " Say's it all.
Cheers David........ Albury. Nsw.
Its coming along nicely and you are both truly amazing with the build. with the bedhead space lid, could you put a sliding mechanism with panelling that slides open and close.
Great progress guys and I love the effort put into the dowel trim timber design theme 👏👏❤️❤️👏👏FYI I think you work better together 👍
