I know this video is a paid promotion, but these are solid batteries. My friend had them on a shoot, and I did like a lot of the features they have compared to my old IDW V-mount batteries.
Sponsored video aside, these are legitimately my favorite. Also, sponsored stuff keeps good channels running, so I’ll absolutely take a video that is 100% an ad here and there from my favorite channels.
I own 2 of the older version 99's and they have been pretty damn solid over 12H shoot days, and the USB-C charges them faster than my rig can drain them so I never have to worry of running out. Could be my Ninja V, but the screen shows the 8V barrel plug is pulling power even when the monitor is turned off. A big win is that SmallRig is showing off that they are using premium LG batteries for the refresh. Not sure whats in my old ones but they still kick ass.
Yeah, I have the same issue with the old ones, if I leave something plugged into the 12V barrel connector, it drains the battery even if everything is off. But in the grand scheme of things, remembering to unplug it when I'm not using it isn't too too bad.
The smallrig NP-F to USB C-PD holder also has a slot that I can put 2 1/4-20" screws. Thus unlike other NP-F battery holders, I can attach the battery holder to the smallrig 1/2 cage and it won't rotate since there are 2 screws.
Been using a huge Anker powerbank for my R5C but this looks light it might have a smaller footprint and balance nicely on a gimbal, and also power my monitor.
Revisiting this video after finding that a lot of buyers of these VB batteries are finding that they will not charge via USB-C after just a handful of times using it. I was given one to "fix", @smallrig are not responding to customer support. Such a disappointment when they make good grip gear, just terrible electronics. I had a similar experience with a RM120 that was DOA.
All V-Mount batteries are not legal... for led lights for example you need a strong one... mine made by IDX can handles Up to 14A Loads, I can't find the info about the smallrig !?
I love your guys content, and this seems like a useful battery. However, i would much prefer this were an actual review rather then just an infomercial
Hey man, I'm running an A6700 and an Atomos Ninja V as the monitor. Is it safe to connect the Atomos Ninja V to the VB99 D-tap and the A6700 through a Smallrig dummy battery plugged into the 8V port of the VB99? It's getting a bit confusing and I wanna make sure I don't damage anything
Did you search the internet for full of comments like "my smallrig VB displays SmallRig but wont charge or reboot" ?....yeah...now you know. Its not only compactness, cute looks...the old "embarrassing" v-mount batteries DO work all the time. I can't imagine turning up to a gig with a VB155 and it won't work
@@dayeah765caoni3 u think it would be wise for PP to accept a free v-mount battery in return for this video? I'm sure Smallrig proposed that as payment. What they do with prices of their products is their business and we choose if it's worth it or not.
I get it, but honestly for every one of these they’ve done so far it’s a neat thing that I haven’t heard of that I might end up getting. You didn't have to try to act, you could just do a normal sponsored video conveying all the information about the product. Sorry, but that was just too cringey.
@@ratemo1797 not the point. I clearly understand it’s sponsored but I’d rather see it presented as one of their standard gear review videos and just note it’s sponsored instead of a cheesy presentation like this. Thought I made that pretty clear.
The cringeworthiness of this type of video is the whole point. They’re showing the fact that they are shilling for the company in this video. They have to make money to survive, unlike dpreviewtv. It’s not cheap to run a tech channel. They have to do sponsored content sometimes, and the cheesiness of the content of these videos is more entertaining than a straight forward review.
It appears that competitors have updated their products with the same displays and information, so Smallrig has started buying advertising. And it was done in a very lazy and cringe way, not informative. For example, how long can a typical 99 power 60W+ LED via d-tap or USB-C? How quickly will 200W+ LED drain two 99's? Maybe something like mini-V 160s exist for high powered LEDs?
It's pretty simple math. 99wh will power a 60 watt light for 99/60 hours at full power. Okay that assumes perfect transmission. 150 are common an I think the standard but are a pain to fly with.
Thanks for this smallgig... You paid for Patrick and Jordan to sell your product and in doing so drained the power.. pun intended ... of their reporting value. Guys, seriously though, please next time title these videos (shilling for the pennies)

Now smallrig needs to make a dual battery plate. I'm absolutely considering these as my idx batteries are getting old.
I already wanted some of these, but you all are the best at actually showing the real usecase.
