I have an elderly friend who worked as a background dancer on 6 Elvis movies. He worked on Roustabout, the Elvis/Barbara Stanwyck movie. He said that Barbara Stanwyck was SO KIND to all of the extras, grips, and construction people on set. Most stars of her caliber would never pay any attention to them, but Barbara was so down to earth, she preferred their company to that of the other stars. He never forgot her kindness. He said she was also very professional, always on time for work, knowing her lines, and willing to help others who were having trouble with their scenes. And she was never in a hurry to leave the set at night. A remarkable person, and one of my favorite actresses. Thank you for this video!

Thank you for your comment. I’m not surprised by your description of her personality and work ethics. I have watched many of her movies, tv series and mini series more than once and her energy, passion and enthusiasm shines through each time. I think her best performance was her last scene in the Thorn Birds with Richard Chamberlain at the top of the stairs as she tells him goodbye. She won an Emmy for that performance. It was magnificent.

She specified in her will that her riding outfit from Annie Oakley be given to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame at that time located in Hereford, TX. I happened to be there visiting with the curator who was a friend when the parcel arrived & helped her unpack the costume. This shows Barbara's generosity because at that time the Hall of Fame was very small. It has since moved to Ft. Worth & is a very large operation.

I watched every episode of The Big Valley, so Jerry I appreciated you mentioned the characters and a bit of their background, it made the video that much more interesting. Who ever remembers The Thorn Birds, magnificent mini series (by the way might want to do Richard Chamberlain bio). Barbara was one of a kind excellent actress. Thank you for such a great presentation. She was one of my favorite actresses. Her strength her way of taking no crap. I loved her in Big Valley. Such a strong woman.
You didn't mention she had serious back injuries from that horse dragging scene. Suffering for the rest of her life because of it that's why she had to limit a lot of her movie making as she got older she could barely walk sometimes. But she didn't let us see it did she? That was the prevailing training at one of the best pain centers that didn't use addictive pain meds of her time. I know because I went there & the process taught you how to live with your pain without letting others see that you have it, thus making you less of a possible victim. Unfortunately I was in one of the last groups that went through in 2000, it was dismantled right after. However it bought me 20 years of walking upright instead of a wheelchair that had been predicted for me. I'll always be grateful that someone like her with her star power showed the program was useful & could make a difference in seriously injured person's life.

Recalling her portrayal to this very day brings deep emotions up from my heart - tears of both great joy, mixed with tears of great appreciation for the truly compassionate individual Barbara so uniquely imbued from her own uniquely warm, and loving, selfless character into that portrayal. To me that is, and will always forever be the absolute greatest, most powerful, inspiring, and uplifting performance of her entire career because in it is revealed so very much of who she really was.

My dad said he met her when he and a bunch of friends were playing flag football and she came along and asked to play with them. He didn’t know who she was until after they stop playing and one of his friends asked her if she was Barbara Stanwick. And she told them she was. He said she was nice and signed some autographs for them

Jerry, this was FABULOUS!!! I'm so glad you devoted extra time to this wonderful woman. Her birthday was two days before mine, and she died in the hospital in which I was born. Oh, the memories in seeing the pictures of the areas I was raised and lived... wonderful! We had a modest ranch in Tarzana. My last two years of high school were in Beverly Hills when I went to live with my father. My high school sweetheart lived the block down from Barbara's first house on Arden. You definitely "did her justice," Jerry, as you always do in your documentaries... excellent!!! ~Dany

I went on holiday to Las Vegas in my early twenties and spent one day in sin city and hated it, I spent the remaining two weeks riding horses in Red Rock Canyon and loved it, the mountains and the cowboys were amazing. During that wonderful time this English girl noticed pictures of Ms Stanwick in alot of the bars and now I'm overjoyed to know her story.

This was a wonderful documentary of a great actress. She was a strong woman who had class. I think she kept things close to her heart in that she treasured her family and friends which probably may have made her look somewhat cold to others. I am new to this channel but will definitely be looking forward to more videos.
