I had these last about 2 weeks just like gel polish would. The key is how you prep the nail and proper gel application. Make sure your foundation layer is incredibly thin then do several thin layers of clear (or top coat) to build up the thickness (curing between each layer).
I was just about to apply my nail tips until I came across your tutorial, thanks for such a great tutorial.. I want to put tips on without damaging my own nails and this seems like the perfect way... I only want to wear them long enough for my own nails to grow out!!👍🏽
Way easier method than acrylic. I've been doing my own nails for years and last time I did acrylics, I thought to myself I need to come up w something else cuz I'm just over acrylics. This is genius!
You want to make sure the tips fit the nail properly, if needed file down the edges to fit. Filing the smile line smooth helps to blend the tip to the natural nail, it also allows the gel to apply smoothly so there's not a stress point. When you have a weakness at the stress point (smile line) you are more likely to have the tips pop off.
you must have boys, with all the crashing and banging going on LOL Thanks so much for the info! I have now bought myself some tips and am going to try this!
I'm so glad I found this video! I used to do my own nails, always liked having them done. Then I had a shop that went to. But I don't always have money to go pay someone to do what I can do myself. This is a fantastic tutorial, and the finished product is perfect. Thank you so much for posting this! 😍
My nail beds got damaged from so many years of acrylics and salons over filing my nails. My natural nails are so thin and brittle. I wanted a way to extend my nails without damaging them anymore. Thank you so much for posting this! I def have to try this!
I always thought that you had to use acrylic powder with tips. I tried it before and it was a nightmare so now i just give my self basic gel manicures. Glad to know that I can combine the two without using the powder!
Thank you for this video! This is exactly what I was thinking about doing. I came to UA-cam to see if someone had already made a video and yours popped up. You explain things SO WELL! Huge thank you. I'm going to try this tonight 😁 I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Omg i finally found a video that answered my question. I always wondered if I could just put glue to create a smooth transition from nail tip to m nail but there was never a video on it so I always thought it was something obvious I should know not to do and thought I was just stupid for even considering it 😂but now I'm definitely doing that, it actually works! Thank you!
Your tutorial videos are the best so far that I've found for beginners, you get to the point with it and you make the instructions simple to follow, so thannnnkkkkk you.
I can't help but laugh at the baby in the background! He/she is like i know your filming, however i'm just going to carry out my day in the background. I'm guessing a little guy. My son was active like that when he was younger.
Hello! I just want to say thank you so much for posting this video! I have tried other methods for fake nails and they failed. I have severe anxiety and can not got to the salon. I tried this method yesterday for the first time and I love it! It was easy to do. I know I need more practice with it. Is there a place I can post the picture of my nails to show the success of it? Thank you again!
+Jennifer Montgrain I'm so happy this helped you! Feel free to post on my facebook page - ThePolishedMommy or tag me on Instagram @thepolishedmommy. =)
Thank you! I was looking for a way to add length without acrylic cause I don’t like them too thick but I didn’t even know about structure either so I’ll definitely look into that too! Great video, they look good!!
Thanks so much! I have a dip system but don't really like it and I didn't want to jump on the gel builder bandwagon. I just bought well-less tips and wanted a way to fill them in that would not hurt my nail underneath. Thanks again for this!
I'm impressed! They look fantastic! No added bulk!!! I may try this! I'm looking into trying different techniques for my own. Rite now I'm doing acrylic. Looking into gel now. Thx!
wow! they turn out nicee and natural looking.I prefer my nails like that, could you do still images after you do your nails this way you can see the results better. Thanxs for sharing.
Looks beautiful! I'm not good at building acrylic or gel, so I'm going to use tips and uv gel polish. I'm thinking almond shape with french tip. Thanks!!
I know this video is old but I want to say thank you for posting. I was trying to figure out how to make sure the “seam” wasn’t showing with the tips. I am going to try it out now. Yours looked good! I appreciate the help! :)
This vid helped me so much cause I just bought tips and had no idea how to apply it and I watched so much vids and this was the only one that helped me
THANK YOU!!! This video has helped me so much! I never knew tips could be applied under soak-off gel nails. I'm going to use structure gel for added strength and hopefully that will prevent any lifting. I've already prepped & filed my tips & I can't wait to start my manicure! :)💅
This was quicker than using the builder gel I was actually going to try this and and see how it turns out but now that you've done it I'm definitely going for it.so glad you made this video. And it does look extremely natural and pretty.i would like to see it with color though but I'm sure it will look flawless for less than going to the nail shop
You would do foundation, structure gel, color, then top coat. You could also skip color and do 2-3 coats of structure gel (depending on how thick you want it) instead and use regular polish on top just like you would on your natural nails.
I followed this about 9 months ago (using ALL the same tips, glue, foundation, structure and top coat) and have been able to wear natural looking tips for 3 weeks before a back fill is needed. Followed your directions and ALL the same steps (I skip gel color). I use thin foundation, 2 thin coats of structure, and top coat. For the rare times I want color I used a very baby light pink regular polish and remove with NON-acetone remover if I tire of it. Thank You!!!! 😊
Thank you! I was wondering, if I could extend my nails with tips somehow, because they're really short and I'm simply unable to keep them longer. Unfortunately the gel doesn't seem to attach properly to my nails, but the gel polish does. So thank you for this explanation, it's the answer I was looking for.
Not the video I was looking for, but I do appreciate the info!! Your tip application would be perfect for dip powders very smooth!! Will give this a go👍🏼 Thanks🤗
Hi Polish Mommy. This video is perfect, i absolutely love it! And on top on it your nails look so natural and perfect! I was wondering if you could post a video of your refilling your gell nails once they grow out? Thanks!
Absolutely love this video - THANK YOU! Once I saw this, I knew I had to try it. I posted a pic in Instagram and tagged you ;) I definitely have to practice but I must say, I won't be going back to acrylic 😄 💅
Curious to know how long these worked for you, going from wearing acrylics. Wouldn't last me a day, i wish it was so easy!! I use dip powder over my natural nails for strength. That was the hardest thing for me, going from super strong nails to super not!
after about a week I did have some of the tips break off. The gel polish is strong but after about a week the glue doesn't hold the tips on very well. When you use tips under acrylics or hard gel they last because those are stronger materials. However, these create a thin natural looking nails as opposed to acrylics or hard gels.
You should try the builder in a bottle gel that some brands have it’s so easy to use and adds a little extra strength. Loved how you file the tips first. I’m so going to try this 🥰
Thank you sooo much I have been wanting to try this sooo bad. You make it look sooo easy! Your nails look just as good as getting then done in the salon!
You could. If you want to just apply the tip you could add a wrap on top(I have a video on this-'Adding strength to your natural nails using wraps'). However, the tips don't stay on as long as they would with the gel on top. Once your nails start to grow you could start using a treatment polish(I've had good results with Nailtek II).
Hi, just loved your video. But was wondering what should I say to the salon person if I want the exact nails like these? acrylic or gel nails? And if we apply colour polish it won't destroy the manicure, right? And for how much time do these stay, if I get it done professionally?
Mehak Horan I've heard them called "party nails" since they don't last as long as acrylics. You might have to explain what you want (natural tip extension with clear gel polish) and be prepared that not all salons will offer this service.
Mehak Horan You can apply polish over it and use non acetone to remove it, depending on how the gel was applied this could lead to peeling or lifting though.
Thank you for this video - great idea in order to avoid hard gel and acrylic! Can I ask how you remove the tips when the gel needs soaking off? Thank you :)
Thanks! Very informative video! Could you please post a video on how to do the full in? I tried this method and Loved it! They are beautiful and saved me loads of money! As my nails free, I had to start the process all over because I did not know how to full it in. My wore the set for 10 days, then the glue would not hold any longer and the tips started to lift. I used the white tips...
The dehydrator removes any surface oils and prepares the nail for enhancements, it is necessary to prevent lifting and help the enhancements last longer. If your nail are already dry/brittle then it may make them worse?
Great video, I was just wondering it looks like you were using a clear tip. Would using a white tip with a dnd base coat and dnd too coat after work for the French manicure look if I did them the same way u did them here?
If I wanted to do this and use regular polish, would I do the foundation then the top coat then just polish them regularly? And if I do gel polish, when I do a fill, do I just file off the polish or use acetone because I wouldn't want the whole nail coming off, just the gel color? Thank you and I love your videos
They key is working very quickly, the longer you let the remover sit on them nail it will start to break down the gel. I you change your polish often(2-3x or more a week) I would look at other enhancement products to use (like hard gel or acrylic).
You would use the Sculpting gel in place of the clear/color step. Using a brush designed for applying gel, pick up a small amount on the brush and smooth it over you nail just like you would regular gel polish. After curing, apply a second coat if necessary, then top coat, cure, and you're done.
How would I use the structure gel? Would I basically use it in place of the polish, or use the polish on top of it? Love the idea of using nail tips with just simple gel polish, I have tons of gel polishes to try it out.
i love this thank you for the video! im really tired of acrylics it damages my nails so much and makes them brittle. could i get this done at any regular nail salon? ThePolishedMommy
it's always good to file BEFORE applying the tip to the nail, the reason is to prevent over-filing your natural nail. An e-file works best to file down the tip well as much as you can without splitting the edge. Once applied you should have a seamless line from your natural nail to the tip extension.
Hia, I can't wait to see your infill's, as I am better watching a video tutorial, rather than written instructions. Plus can you tell me how to ease the nail/glue if it gets under the tip and attaches to the skin and the nails as I did mine after following your directions and I love them, its just that I may have been over filling the tip, before attaching it to my natural nail, and one of them is glued tight. Do I put acetone on a cu-tip, to ease the extension from my skin? I just wanted to say that this is so easy to follow, I would never have thought of filing the tip to thin it down before applying, what an excellent tip. Previously I have done this once they were on my nails. This can thin the natural nail and leave it weak and painful. Thanks again. AV :0) xx
This video is so informative and easy to understand. Thank you! (Also, I kind of love all the background noise. I have three kids and that's exactly what my house sounds like when I do my nails. :P )
This is a really good video but the 70% alcohol does work well. I used it on my gel manicure the other day, and there was no tacky layer. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I sie the Same Methode, but my nailextensions are breaking in the Middle After 2-3 days. I think the gelpolish is Too thin to stabilize the extension... (?)
I have trouble differentiating traditional gel vs gel polish? I wanna get tip extensions, but I don't like acrylics. So, do I tell my manicurist that I want tips with gel polish?
After watching this video I called a few nail salons to see if they would do this but no one will, so I'm going to attempt to do this on myself. Just a few questions- how long does it last? Did you post a video about how to fill them in?
luv this idea how long do they last u,same as on natural nail gel application or abit less,on my clients my gel application on natural last without chipping about 3weeks to a month, of course needing fill, but how long do these last with tip,i have some clients with really short nails and of course gel doesn't look as good on short bitten nails then with adleast short tip
+brittany g In my experience they last as long as a gel mani. Just be sure to let them know that this does not give them the same thickness/strength that acrylics and hard gels do, so they should treat them like natural nails.

Mrs. quick, I know I had to watch twice because I couldn't stop laughing!
I LOVE the little guy too. SAME as mine
I know this is an old vid but still very relevant today. I’m new to gel and tips and found this very helpful.

File it BEFORE you apply it! BRILLIANT!!!!! Thank you!
Ive been trying to look for a video that shows this technique! Thanks girl! Trying it out tonight :)
Thank you that's the way it should be to look natural. There so pretty. Beautiful wedding set very gorgeous. 🌷🌷👌

how long do these last. wouldn't they just pop off ? all that's holding it in place is a bit of glue.
They turned out SO perfect! If I wanted to ask for this at the salon would I just ask for tips with gel polish?
I love Love loved this video! I found this extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing and having everything easily visible.
This is a very informative video! Thank you for sharing! And the little baby hand that pops in halfway through is so cute! :)
Not the video I was looking for, but I do appreciate the info!! Your tip application would be perfect for dip powders very smooth!! Will give this a go👍🏼 Thanks🤗
Wooow! U R the best. Been watching so many to get an idea ascto how I should go about it. And there UR .Great. Educator ! Bless you
Tutorial on filling in the regrowth please! Great video
I wish I had seen your video before I did my nails today. Next time for sure. Ty so much. Very good info.
thank you =) hopefully once my boys are in school full time I can get my nail tech license!
Hi Polish Mommy. This video is perfect, i absolutely love it! And on top on it your nails look so natural and perfect!
I was wondering if you could post a video of your refilling your gell nails once they grow out? Thanks!
Nina Carpanzano I currently don't have a video for fills but I do have a written tutorial (link in description box).
Oh yes I saw that after I commented! Thank you though! Post more videos of you doing nails please! :)
Absolutely love this video - THANK YOU!
Once I saw this, I knew I had to try it. I posted a pic in Instagram and tagged you ;)

omg they look so good! :3 i wantt!!
way cheaper and better than gel nails.
Do you still think they're better then gel???

great video! I'm so glad I FOUND it. you're very informative & easy to follow. I'm going to TRY this out. I hope it comes out just as nice 🙈
Thank you for this video - great idea in order to avoid hard gel and acrylic! Can I ask how you remove the tips when the gel needs soaking off? Thank you :)
+S Mirf You soak them off like you would gel polish or acrylic. I have a separate video showing how I remove gel polish polish.
They look fab but can you tell me, do you have to use tips that have a well or can you use well-less tips (this is what I have)? Thanks :)
Thanks! Very informative video! Could you please post a video on how to do the full in? I tried this method and Loved it! They are beautiful and saved me loads of money! Thank you for the base coat tip as I always put on too much as I didn’t know how little to apply.
Can do a list of everything you use thank u so much thus is a great technique!!
I like how you explain what the products do instead of just showing us :) I'm wondering if the dehydrator will make your nails brittle?
The dehydrator removes any surface oils and prepares the nail for enhancements, it is necessary to prevent lifting and help the enhancements last longer. If your nail are already dry/brittle then it may make them worse?
Wow! I'm impressed! They look great!
Great video, I was just wondering it looks like you were using a clear tip. Would using a white tip with a dnd base coat and dnd too coat after work for the French manicure look if I did them the same way u did them here?
It should.
lol my boys were playing, my little one was in his exersaucer for part of the video and he likes to jump in it(which is really loud).
Boy mom things. 💚 I only have one boy.
You did a really good job....they look nice.
If I wanted to do this and use regular polish, would I do the foundation then the top coat then just polish them regularly? And if I do gel polish, when I do a fill, do I just file off the polish or use acetone because I wouldn't want the whole nail coming off, just the gel color? Thank you and I love your videos
+ThePolishedMommy thanks so ,much for your reply. I got all my supplies and am planning on doing it tonight or tomorrow!
Could I also use pure acetone instead of the alcohol?
Very helpful video by the way😊😊
They key is working very quickly, the longer you let the remover sit on them nail it will start to break down the gel. I you change your polish often(2-3x or more a week) I would look at other enhancement products to use (like hard gel or acrylic).
Very nice,i have the same gelish kit and the light.awesome
Great tutorial! I did my nails this afternoon and they look totally fab!!!!
Do you have to use the PH bond, and the foundation or can it be done without by applying a gel base coat after putting the tips on?
I know theres a baby playing with toys. Lol lol lol noises from a happy healthy baby...God Bless the little child
I really want to know if there is a way to remove the gel polish without removing the tips. Is it possible?
LVL1HERO file it down
so you file the polish off instead of soak? I'm new to all this.
Cynthia Funk you can do either or. It's not necessary to take the tips off to take the gel off. Soaking or filing doesn't remove the nail.
I don't think many salons offer this to their clients but it's very easy to do yourself =)
I love this idea. Would this work using Gelish Vitagel Recovery?
If you do the layers thick enough it should. But beware since Vitagel is a one step gel it peels off easily and these may not last very long.
it's always good to file BEFORE applying the tip to the nail, the reason is to prevent over-filing your natural nail. An e-file works best to file down the tip well as much as you can without splitting the edge. Once applied you should have a seamless line from your natural nail to the tip extension.
very nice, did it chip?
Hia, I can't wait to see your infill's, as I am better watching a video tutorial, rather than written instructions.
AV :0) xx
After a taking a shower you can gently separate the skin from the glue. The exposure to water will soften the skin making it easier.
This video is so informative and easy to understand. Thank you! (Also, I kind of love all the background noise. I have three kids and that's exactly what my house sounds like when I do my nails. :P )
will it stay? is it structurally strong without the apex? Pl reply
What is the brand and name of the sheer pink you used before the top it off please?
Your nails look great! Nice tutorial.
Do you use a top coat and base coat gel polish ? & also when referring the foundation polish is that the dehydrator polish?
some brands use different terms for the products, foundation polish is the base coat for this brand.
would you suggest using the sally Hansen acrylic polish instead or gel polish.
This is a great alternative. Is it pretty easy to remove the tip if you don't want it anymore? Thanks
Madre63 yes, just soak them in pure acetone until it is fully removed.
Thanks.
This is a really good video but the 70% alcohol does work well. I used it on my gel manicure the other day, and there was no tacky layer. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I always use 70% as well and it works for me.
thank you so much for this video! i was wondering how i can remove the tip, is there a product to dissolve the glue?
+Ciaociao Barbara soak in pure acetone until it fully dissolves =)
I know ist al late reation LOL but can you remmber how long the nails holds?? I hate the thick blub on my nail blegggg
How long did they last I did mine and they only lasted one week
looking natural..how long it lasts?
I am insane, but you sound like amy Adams..
Allison Wright she does! Thanks for the tutorial!
I sie the Same Methode, but my nailextensions are breaking in the Middle After 2-3 days. I think the gelpolish is Too thin to stabilize the extension... (?)
Awesome tutorial :) Could I use normal nail polish on the nails once they were blended and filed into shape?
Great video how long do they last
I can get a couple of weeks, and usually one fill before soaking off and doing them again.
great informative video..thank you. I'm looking for your video on how to fill after tips with gel?
Julia Kuhl I don't have a video for this but I have a link in the description box to a written tutorial.
I don't have a video but you can check the description box for a written tutorial.
and they last as long as gel polish lasts on you (varies based on brand and nail type)
So pretty. You did a good job
luv this idea how long do they last u,same as on natural nail gel application or abit less,on my clients my gel application on natural last without chipping about 3weeks to a month, of course needing fill, but how long do these last with tip,i have some clients with really short nails and of course gel doesn't look as good on short bitten nails then with adleast short tip
+brittany g In my experience they last as long as a gel mani. Just be sure to let them know that this does not give them the same thickness/strength that acrylics and hard gels do, so they should treat them like natural nails.
Thank you for your quick response im definitely subbing you,and ill definitely try this and give as a option thanx again 😊
+brittany g No problem...Feel free to share the nails you create using this technique on my Facebook page (The Polished Mommy) =)
