please. Leffen got bodied by megaman's powerful aerials constantly, and even got hit by forward smash. leffen did a stupid flare blitz, failed to recovery with zard's up-b. Leffen lost because he isn't that great, not because of leaf shield.
To be fair, PT has a horrible match-up against mega man. Squirtle can combo, but can't kill, Charizard gets hit by everything and is easily the worst of the 3, and ivysaur just loses. Ivysaur's biggest strength is spacing, which is a core part of mega man gameplay. 1 razor leaf loses to 1 pellet, and pellet is less laggy than razor leaf. Leffen played extremely well, and I'd argue he actually outplayed Yeti most of the time. He ended up choking in the final game which cost him a set he should've won. He could've gotten top 8 at G6. If this was 2.0.0 more than likely he would've won, but still with trouble.

I don’t hate Leffen, but I can’t really support him because he says some of the dumbest things.
Mega Man main here. Seriously, you're going to hate on one of the few methods Mega Man has for doing consistent damage anymore? They took away pretty much every good damage combo he had from Smash 4 and significantly reduced the damage output of metal blade/tornado (not to mention making tornadoes much harder to hit). The tradeoff with lemons is they're now longer range but they don't gimp - still good. Mega Man now has more kill options but your ability to get a player to higher percentages have gone from one grab combo to two or three grab combos combined with leaf shield. In lieu of the combo/damage options other characters have (Ike and Inkling anyone?) to complain about leaf shield being broken is ridiculous. It has a huge punishment window if you manage to block all the hits. Yeti is good, so he manages to jump away from his opponent most times when he realizes they're going to block all his leaves, but that's harder than it looks, and even he doesn't manage to accomplish it every time. The few times that his timing is off, he gets punished for it big time. Trust me, Mega Man players would be much happier if leaf shield was back to the way it was, but so was tornado and metal blade/footstooling/lemon gimp while keeping his fair as a kill option. Until then leave leaf shield alone, and learn to block it. It's really not that hard.
This Good explain of why Leaf Shield is constantly used, since Mega Man doesn't really have a good, consistent way of racking up damage, and his lemons and a few other projectiles can just be broken before they actually hit the opponent.
@@user-ds3bh4jt6r lol no it didn't, they nerfed the hell out of LS in addition to taking away pellet cancel. Pellet cancel was gone in the first patch. LS got Forever Gimped™ when Joker came out. I'd still take footstool combos back over LS trickery, especially with how gimped it is now.

@@user-ds3bh4jt6r as opposed to Pikachu being the most annoying toxic char in the game? Go play a top tier and stop whining. Mega Man wasn't OP even with LS as it was. Pellet cancel was probably too powerful in the long run, but LS as it was definitely was not broken. If anything now it's broken in the other direction. It's all but completely ineffective against some characters, who can literally mash through it now. Meanwhile we got Pyra who can just side B and stop all attacks (basically instantly-thrown LS that also does insane knockback and has kill potential). Little to no punishment window should it miss, either, unless the Pyra player is completely stupid and stays put on the ground as the sword comes back to her. Mega Man has a roshambo punishment window with all of his post-LS options. Ironically enough I think it was Leffen who made the "how to punish leafshield" video showing just this, and I think that was BEFORE it got nerfed. Mega Man has to work harder than at least 50% of the roster to get kills. He's Shiek with projectiles. If you're not super precise, patient and know matchups you're going to get rolled by just about anyone who has a good out of shield option, combo game or decent damage options. Other characters can get you at kill percentage after 3-4 good hits. For Mega Man it takes 5-8 good hits, or a shit ton of lemons. His chase and ledge trap options require extreme stick discipline like rar bairs and reverse z drops. He's a very difficult character to succeed with at even A tier level play, let alone S tier like what you're witnessing, and if you don't believe me pick him up.
Twitch chat would not shut up about this for literally hours afterwards. Like, I get that people really wanted Leffen to make top 8 and yes leaf is a bit cheap especially with the pellet cancel of pre 2.0.0 (Although like someone said it wasn't even used like that often.) but some of the hate Yeti got is just plain unfair, and indicative honestly of a lot of their inherent scrubbiness to be blunt. (and god, the character blaming for the accomplishments or shortcomings of their respective players was fucking real this weekend.) Leffen himself has even said that it mostly came down to the fact he was unfamiliar with the matchup, and also having a crisis of faith in PT's viability in a competitive setting ,which while I'm sure is debatable...the mere doubt of which is enough to throw someone's game off if it takes root in one's head mid competition. Yeah Leaf Shield is strong and so is the rest of MM's kit, but obviously considering Yeti himself got eliminated later as did other prominent Mega Man mains earlier it's obviously not insurmountable an advantage. Leffen did really well but obviously he still has a lot to learn too (And maybe another character to practice with.) Some people have got to stop being so knee jerk in their response to this stuff.
Leffen was also really close to winning this set and kind of fell apart during Yeti's final stock of game 5. That seems more like the reason he lost than leaf shield.

As someone who doesnt know that much about Ultimate, it feels like Leaf Shield, Ike's Nair, etc. are hated on the same way Jiggs as a char is hated in the Melee commumity. On paper, theres a lot of nuance to think of and these players are doing more than just "spamming". But from a pure spectator standpoint, it just feels lazy; and yes, this is a bad mindset to have about it and it doesnt warrant the hate these players get for it. But it is definitely harder for casual spectators to appreciate, myself included. Its the pure repetition that makes people annoyed to watch these matches. Conversely, Leff's Pkmn Trainer is inheritantly really fun to watch because its 3 char movesets in 1. People can complain about razor leaf spam too, but spectators look past that because a switch to Charizard and Squirtle adds variety to what Leff does and thus people are less likely to find it as annoying. Melee Fox is also considered broken at times, but the high skill ceiling and variety of play options offer enough for spectators to still enjoy the brokenness. This is why people love Mang0, despite his losses; he offers so much variety to the game (including tournament placings lol). People were so salty about Mega Man LMAO
I'm pretty sure the leaf shield is only looking so strong because leffen doesn't have any matchup experience here. poor guy, but knowledge is part of the skill check at a tournament.
please. Leffen got bodied by megaman's powerful aerials constantly, and even got hit by forward smash. leffen did a stupid flare blitz, failed to recovery with zard's up-b. Leffen lost because he isn't that great, not because of leaf shield.
@bonzwah1 You basically just johnned for Leffen.
@@23TheOneAndOnly23 He's not "johning" for leffen, if you watched the leffen video, he says he thinks Yeti is a good player and leaf shield probably isn't that bad since he doesn't have good matchup experience on megaman
Flashy Where at any point does the OP say anything to praise Yeti’s skill? All *he* says is that leaf shield is why he lost, not Yeti. Onto Leffen himself. He straight up said he would’ve beat MK FRICKIN’ *LEO* but Pokémon Trainer held him back. That’s BS and we both know it.
This
Good explain of why Leaf Shield is constantly used, since Mega Man doesn't really have a good, consistent way of racking up damage, and his lemons and a few other projectiles can just be broken before they actually hit the opponent.
Loool this aged so bad. Pellets into leaf shield was an exploit that was beyond broken
@@Wiggymaster You are not getting either yet your char is still hightier. He has good enough tools to rack up damage without leafshield being as toxic as it was. If they left this char how he was hed be the most annoying toxic char in the game
Twitch chat has been and always will be a toxic haven of morons that hate on shit for no reason. Any zoner gets way too much undeserved hate.

The megaman / leafshield hate everywhere is idiotic. This was leffen's set to lose halfway through game 5 and he lost it, plain and simple. He clearly has matchup issues here and i have little doubt that he couldn't learn the matchup and dominate in the future if he wanted to stick with PT. He was that close to winning in spite of his matchup deficiency. This was a good set with plenty of errors on both sides. This game is still stupid young and the gameplay here will be looked back on in a year or so and laughed at for how bad it is.
Tournaments this early are necessary to progress the game and develop matchup familiarity etc. But any ranks or tiers at this point are just silly imo and mean nothing. This game is far from being mastered tech wise and players are a long way from mastering all the matchups, identifying stage counterpicks etc.
Just enjoy the show and stop bitching about moves and characters and crying for nerfs. Nerfs are cancer in competitive games. Let the game mature and let players work out counters.

Idk this rant might not make sense, but I just wanted to say something as someone who went into this video purely blind, noticed the leaf shield a lot, and then scrolled down to see everyone discussing it.

No he can but he cant do anything but run and jump. He cant grab anymore during leaf shield like in sm4sh. The key to beating the move is to shield up close or just run. It is super laggy after he throws it leaving time for a punish and if he throws it its literally a giant leaf circle pretty easy to dodge. 2.0.0 made it so his infinite cant be done or pellete into b attacks.
