All I can say is that I know how to play the game, yet I still found this video really informative and entertaining. Loved hearing the thought processes and strategy behind the decisions throughout. Nice job, gents.
Thanks for doing this video series. I just picked up the same starter set for me and my son to play together. I just found out that Destiny has been discontinued, but that's okay, we can still play with the cards that are still being sold!
Fantastic. Thanks for all that you do, guys. This series has REALLY helped me get up the curve after having got into Destiny a few years late... and get some of my friends interested in the game. Keep up the great content!
Thanks so much for making these videos. I had avoided destiny, but you guys got my wife and I hooked. Now we're a few hundred cards in and doing our first OP next week.
Team Covenant I had been running a Palpatine Phasma, but today I bought two random booster packs and pulled a Tarkin. I put together him with the 2 player Kylo and had a bunch of fun games this evening. My wife is working on a Luke & Leia.
I just got a free promo pack from a shop today and googled it. After finding yu gi oh fun but my friend finding it confusing, this looks way more fun. Thanks for the help lads :)
thanks for the vid. i kinda like dead games. getting ready to play some destiny tomorrow probably. although, if you like destiny, you should check out the upcoming boxed game "Spirit Duels"
Great video. Game looks fun. I do think that FF should have made these be complete decks though. Requiring additional funding just to complete a deck seems ridiculous to me.
Clarification please at 27:00 he states inner strength moves 1 damage with no Shields. However you note that ability would stack below shields. Were you speaking in general about the movability? Or was there something I missed?
The Guardian keyword completely throws me off, I just don't get it. I used the Praetorian Guard which has its own definition of Guardian on its card while the rulebook appears to say something completely different. "When this card is activated, you may cancel one dice from the opponent's pool showing damage (either melee damage, indirect damage or range damage). Then deal its damage to the character." What am I doing with my opponent's die? Why am I still taking damage? Does the guarded character take the damage or my Praetorian Guard (who doesn't even have health)? How is this useful?
Great question Eli, "Guardian" is one of those things that we get asked about all the time. In the normal flow of a game of Destiny your opponent wants to defeat your team members one at a time. Characters with Guardian disrupt that! Say you have Obi-wan out with three health remaining and a Jedi Temple Guard out at full health. Your opponent rolls out Darth Vader and gets a 2 melee and a 3 melee. Your Temple Guard can activate to take the 3 damage and remove the dice, in order to protect Obi. Now Darth Vader has to work harder to get Obi-won down.
Isn’t the Phasma Blaster at the end only playable on her since it is a unique name? (Sorry just got the game yesterday and still learning.) Great video!
If the "Do or Do Not Card" (@27:49) was played w/ a "Special" die roll result, what would be the outcome? Would they just do the special as normal? (I doubt they would get to do it twice or add damage to it- but maybe they could the later.)
Hi, thanks for the video. Very helpful. Question: At the 11:55 mark, you play a blue Jedi Rival onto Phasma. I thought you couldn't play a blue card on a red character. Am I wrong? Still learning the game. Thanks again.
Great question Jeff, As long as you have a blue villain in your deck, you can bring Jedi Rival along and play it anywhere. Some cards will specify "Blue Characters Only" or "Spot a yellow character to..." and those are color specific. We hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions!
Great video! Question: now that we have the new game mechanic of indirect damage, how are we supposed to interpret older cards that refer to damage as only melee and range (w/ symbols). For example, cards that allow you to "resolve a die showing damage (range/melee) and increase its value by 1" or something similar. Should we take that at face value and only use it with range and melee, or should we include indirect damage in that category even though it doesn't show the symbol? Thanks for your help!
Team Covenant Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me or point me in the right direction where elite characters are explained? I understand they get 2 dice instead of 1, but I don't understand why you wouldn't have used them in the video. I'm guessing I am missing something when it comes to criteria for when you can use an elite. Thank you!
Absolutely, we created an entire Learning Series for Destiny, here is the page that discuss deck-building and elite characters teamcovenant.com/learning/star-wars-destiny/how-to-build-first-deck-basic-guide
Thank you! So as I understand it, you will need to get 2 copies of a character card in order use them as elite? I was under the incorrect impression that the starter set had 2 dice each for that characters. Now I see why people often get 2 of the core sets.
Haven't played this game myself, but I did notice it shares some similarities to Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, which is also dice-based. Has anyone played both and has an opinion on which one is better?
Do support cards that don't state "Exhaust" or "Discard" (the Med Droid for ex.) get exhausted when used? If not, does that mean a player could continue to activate & then later resolve that support's card on different future turns (in the same round)?
Can you only use a character dice roll/ action per round? So once you have used both your character dices you pass the round making it an upkeep phase?
If character has multiple cards with the special ability, i.e. like poe had in this demo, and you resolve a special symbol do you get the benefits from each card?
It is die specific. So if Poe's character die rolls a special you can resolve it to use Poe's special. Same for Poe Dameron's Blaster. You can not switch them. Each die only represents the card it comes with, nothing else.
FFG Starter ... That Money Policy... They could at least put cards in 2x.... Tired of that company, wich is a shame for such a fun game. Very Nice Video. As Always.
They do have a somewhat... sketchy policy when it comes to starter sets, yes. But at the same time, I think perhaps it is easier to learn a bit more of the variety in the cards if the decks only have 1 of each in them. I dunno, though. I pretty much just bought 2 of the 2player sets and a couple booster packs to get the rush of opening some stuff, like magic used to give me, so I am brand new to the game yet. These videos are very helpful, though, moreso than the official tutorial from FFG.
If I have two 2 melee damage dice, can I resolve them at the same time to the same character doing 4 damage at once, or would it have to be resolving 2 sepearate 2 damage attacks in succession? I realize if I had a 2 melee damage & a +2 melee damage they would resolve for 4 damage at the same time.
At the very beginning of the game, when choosing the battlefield, the player whose battlefield is picked doesn't get to use the Claim ability at the moment the other player gets 2 Shields to start w/ do they?
Im kinda confused about the battlefield claiming. At around 18:30, he claims the battlefield and then he says he can take like 20 actions and he cant do anything. I dont know what he means? If you claim the battlefield, do you lose a turn or something?
That is a great question, when you claim, it is the last thing you can do that round! So you get the claim ability (some of which are huge!), and the guarantee of going first next round (initiative can be important for some decks), but your opponent gets to take a few extra actions. Good players are constantly guessing how many more turns they and their opponent have left, and claiming turns into a type of tug of war.
Yup, they're probably getting it mixed up with Willpower and other effects that specify "(this ignores shields)", but Inner Strength specifically won't work on a character with shields.
@@ShineChromatica Thanks I had to look that up and I didn't get what they were talking about. The card is pretty clear that it you can only do it to a character that doesn't have any shields.
AND IN 2 YEARS THIS GAME IS DEAD .. what a shitstorm . I alrdy knew this would die fast due to the stupid collectable aspect as well as the random dice that you get.. Plastic dice is EXPENSIVE

I’m just starting Destiny this week and this was really a great help on learning this game.
The “claim the battlefield” reminds me of passing in gwent in the Witcher 3.
Great video, you guys do an awesome job of playing through the game while explaining. Wish more board game videos were as informative as you!
Fantastic. Thanks for all that you do, guys. This series has REALLY helped me get up the curve after having got into Destiny a few years late... and get some of my friends interested in the game. Keep up the great content!
That is awesome Darren! Thank you for letting us know, and welcome!
Lovin that spoiler warning for a film that was over 2 years old at the time XD
Thanks so much for making these videos. I had avoided destiny, but you guys got my wife and I hooked. Now we're a few hundred cards in and doing our first OP next week.
That is great to hear! Welcome to the team. What are your favorite decks so far?
Team Covenant I had been running a Palpatine Phasma, but today I bought two random booster packs and pulled a Tarkin. I put together him with the 2 player Kylo and had a bunch of fun games this evening. My wife is working on a Luke & Leia.
Been watching all these videos and checking out your site blog, very quality production. Also those Covenant mats are super cool :)
Thanks Matt!
Unfortunately Phasma + Ren no longer adds up to 30 because Phasma is 10/14 thanks to the current balance of the force (that could change).
Yea, FFG likes ruining our videos!
I just got a free promo pack from a shop today and googled it. After finding yu gi oh fun but my friend finding it confusing, this looks way more fun. Thanks for the help lads :)
Welcome to Destiny!
great job guys; you make a great team and an entertaining film. Thank you for sharing. Top notch quality as always!

Enjoy Tim! Thank you for the kind words.
Yet another awesome learning tutorial!

Absolutely! They missed a great opportunity.
Clarification please at 27:00 he states inner strength moves 1 damage with no Shields. However you note that ability would stack below shields. Were you speaking in general about the movability? Or was there something I missed?
From the rules: When damage is moved to a new character, it ignores shields and the character is not considered to have taken damage.
I did a double take here also. The card specifically calls out "no shields" yeah? 😕
Great video guys :) will you do something similar with AGoT?
The Guardian keyword completely throws me off, I just don't get it. I used the Praetorian Guard which has its own definition of Guardian on its card while the rulebook appears to say something completely different.

Great video!
Limitations like that are clearly spelled out on the card. If it does not say "Phasma-only" you can play it anywhere - regardless of the name!
If the "Do or Do Not Card" (@27:49) was played w/ a "Special" die roll result, what would be the outcome? Would they just do the special as normal? (I doubt they would get to do it twice or add damage to it- but maybe they could the later.)
I'm thinking no since "Specials have a value of 0 that cannot be increased or decreased." according to the 1.5 Rules.
That is correct Jake, the rules separate "values" and "symbols". Only sides with values can be increased.

All of those work with Indirect Damage! Unless it specifically says RANGED damage or MELEE damage, Indirect is a legal target.
Thanks for clarifying!
Just bought this started set and am working through your great videos. Why didn't you use elite characters and get more dice?
Great question Tim, we wanted to play a game just using one starter set, so anyone who buys it can have a video that relates to them!
Thank you!

Haven't played this game myself, but I did notice it shares some similarities to Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, which is also dice-based. Has anyone played both and has an opinion on which one is better?
The fact that they use dice is about the only similarity. And while Ashes is a fine game, Destiny is superior in just about every way!
Do support cards that don't state "Exhaust" or "Discard" (the Med Droid for ex.) get exhausted when used? If not, does that mean a player could continue to activate & then later resolve that support's card on different future turns (in the same round)?
They do exhaust on use. Any time your roll a character or support's dice out, the card it belongs to exhausts. It is under the activation rules.
12:38 I'm confused because I thought 1 roll is an action, how could he go again with his support card when he just rolled?
The upgrade, Jedi Rival, is automatic, it does not require an action!
Can you only use a character dice roll/ action per round? So once you have used both your character dices you pass the round making it an upkeep phase?
There are many actions, including discarding a card to re-roll any number of your dice.

You can resolve the dice at the same time, but it is still doing 2 damage and then another 2 damage.
Heads up, Guys, the video links to your website don't work. The ones that popup at the beginning.
Thank you! It is correct now.
You guys rock. Thanks for all the videos. I'm in Iowa, been turning my gamer friends onto you guys recently. Keep up the good work!
To use any ones special power don't you have to roll the special icon on the die?
To use a "Special", yes. There are still "Actions" that can be done anytime on your turn, and "Power Actions" that are once per turn!
@@teamcovenant thank you.
At the very beginning of the game, when choosing the battlefield, the player whose battlefield is picked doesn't get to use the Claim ability at the moment the other player gets 2 Shields to start w/ do they?
No, they do not. Claiming is a specific action that can only take place during the action phase.
Great questions Jake! Let us know if you have any more!
Thank you, just recently got the game & like to make sure I know how to play it correctly! Thank you for the helpful answers & demonstrations!
Im kinda confused about the battlefield claiming. At around 18:30, he claims the battlefield and then he says he can take like 20 actions and he cant do anything. I dont know what he means? If you claim the battlefield, do you lose a turn or something?

When you played teamwork on Ray, shouldn't you have had another action?
Oh snap it's a different Ray! Never mind 😂
So hard to get used to!
Rey* ;) This Rey doesn't cheat, kind of looking forward to old Rey being rotated out so we can see some new cards that don't abuse her ability.
You guys sell those nice playmats?
They are currently out of stock Tim!
How many supports can be in game?
Unlimited.

Did these guys give up on all things Star Wars? Found a bunch of old Destiny and X-Wing content, but then it stopped
Destiny went out of print, and X-Wing kind of dropped off after Second Edition. Really surprised we haven't seen a new Star Wars TCG.
@@teamcovenant why did x wing drop off? A lot of supporets and players out there

No - friends since childhood!
