    Can't touch the blade on mine and haven't seen any other reviewers mention it. The Paladin is one of my favorite budget knives.

      That's good to hear, I really hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. Other than that, I like the Paladin.

    Damn!... if it wasn't filmed I would not believe it... thanks for taking the risk for us to know the specifics of handling blades. Keep up the good work, I know this is a review from two years ago but still has lot of value to me.

    I have large hands. I have had a paladin for 2 years carry it often. I have never cut myself on the blade but who runs liners really. I agree that is unacceptable but I personally ally have never had that issue. Your right take is the mans bandaid.
    I love the Swordfish. That is probably my favorite.

      That's good Rick, I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. Maybe my example is the only one. I do like the Paladin, so I will correct the issue. It seems that many love the Swordfish, I'll have to get my hands on one. Thanks for watching.

    I respect you as a reviewer, but I have to 100% disagree with you here. I own this knife, and have it on me right now. I don’t have your issue. Not only that, but I can attest that this is one of the best budget folders of 2018, straight up. This knife is AMAZING. I carry it with my Civivi Praxis regularly and have zero complaints. I’d recommend it to anyone.

      First off, thank you for disagreeing with me in a polite manner, much appreciated Alexander. Even though you might of thought it, you exercised enough restraint and didn't just type out "Jay, you're an idiot". If you're interested, I would like to send you a channel sticker. If you want, just email your info to me at: theknifebeater@gmail.com and I will take care of it. I can certainly understand why the Paladin is one of your favorites, it's simplistic no nonsense design and long useful blade make it a keeper. In fact, I plan to keep and modify mine so I can carry it more. I'm glad you don't have the same issue, I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Even if this is the only instance where this problem occurs, I feel it's my duty to at least mention it. I hope this helps to understand my perspective. Thanks for watching Alexander.

    I had this knife since it came out and never had an issue with cutting my finger but I’m not rubbing my finger trying to cut myself. I would have to say the Paladin or Scimitar are my favorite budget models

      That's good Brian, I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. I've had a few knives with the same problem, but not to the extent of cutting myself. I still like the Paladin enough to mod the choil. Thanks for watching.

    Great review as always, Jay! As for your sample's "high sharpening choil" issue, I wouldn't chance it with this particular EDC. That said, I own a very nice SixLeaf SL-02 (D2 steel) that has almost that same issue, though you'd have to really "try" to touch that point between the scales to even feel it, much less cut oneself. Otherwise, that SixLeaf folder is fantastic, very solid and super-sharp, with micarta scales and steel liners.

    Great review, brother! I was seriously considering buying this guy until you pointed out that major issue, now not so much! It's a very good looking knife and if they turned that sharpening choil into a functional forward choil it could be a great knife. They definitely need to come down on the price to compete with the other budget offerings out there that are using the same exact materials!! Thank you for the review!!

      Thank you GP, yeah Bestech has quite a few great designs. To be honest, I still like the Paladin, so I will have to fix the choil. Who knows, maybe mine is the only one with this problem, I really hope so. Thank you for watching.

  • @mt_baldwin
    @mt_baldwin 5 років тому +1

    Yeah that's not cool and needs to be fixed. I know some people don't think that's a big deal but it is, it's not going be your index finger tip though, it's going to be the side of your pinky finger that's in trouble, when you slid your hand past it while it's in your pocket. Oh yes I know there's a lot of perfect people that never reach into their pocket or can use ninja skills to avoid it (or likely never actually carry a knife) but for the rest us it's a problem.

  • @sambrown4424
    @sambrown4424 5 років тому +1

    why are you putting your hands where they wouldn’t naturally go??? It’s like opening a knife and rubbing your finger on the blade, guess I just don’t get that. Going out of your way( doing something that you’d never do) to touch something sharp seems insane
    I’ve got a Bestech Scimitar, and if I jam my finger in it, yeah I can touch the blade....but why? Lol

    • @mt_baldwin
      @mt_baldwin 5 років тому

      Most people's hands do naturally go there, when its in the pocket and you reach your hand into that pocket to get something else your smallest finger slides right down that part of the knife. If you don't ever reach into your pocket that's fine but most people do when carrying their knife.

    • @sambrown4424
      @sambrown4424 5 років тому

      @@mt_baldwin Hm, Never thought about that. My hands always go between my knife and leg, never beside my knife. Guess it is a big deal then for people whose hands go into their pockets like you mentioned.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  5 років тому

      Yes, thank you Mt. Baldwin. Especially someone that recently purchased the knife and maybe doesn't realize yet that there is a potential issue. You reach into your pocket, your fingers slide down the handle spine and then you have yourself a problem. I'm actually slightly surprised about some of the push back I'm receiving in the comments. As the video shows, I didn't jam my finger between the scales trying to cut myself. Really I thought it was quite simple, a knife should not cut you when closed. Thanks for watching.

  • @Eldofarmboy

    My favorite is the Warwolf. I also found that the inside edges of the G10 were a bit sharp but a light sanding took care of that. I have noticed how close the blade is to the open back, but I've never cut myself on it when trying to touch it. I guess my fingers are a bit fatter than yours.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  5 років тому

      Yes, the Warwolf, good choice David. I've had a few other knives with the same problem where I can feel it, but it doesn't stick out enough to cut me like the Paladin, which is why I was very surprised when it happened. I like the Paladin enough to go ahead and fix it. Thanks for watching.

  • @ScottieG59
    @ScottieG59 5 років тому

    I have a couple Kizers with the blade exposed that way. I fixed one and I am careful with the other. I have a couple that place the tip close enough at the handle's end to be touched. Again, I fixed one and I am careful with the other. I never cut myself with those edge exposures, but I have many times with drop shut blades.

      I think I know one of the Kizer's you speak of, is it the Velox 2? I have noticed the blade cutting into fingers problem with other models and makers too....there should be an industry standard on how close any edge of the blade is to the edge of the handle on ALL blades...this would set a safety standard...and if a company does this right could advertise this as an added safety feature in their knives.....and Jay, a mans bandaid is DUCT Tape.....masking tapes are for wimps ;)

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  5 років тому +1

      Yes, very well said Lemon. If it wasn't so cold here and the ground was a little softer, I would've just rubbed some dirt on the cut and called it a day. Believe me, I was looking for duct tape. Thanks for watching.

    Great review, thanks!
    I find this blade-too-close to spine issue as more of a nit pick cause it never happened to me in normal every day use or carry and one probably wouldn't cut himself unless intentionally sticking a finger in there.
    Yes - it definitely should be said in the review and better not be there, but definitely not a deal breaker for me.
    Cheers!

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  5 років тому +1

      Thank you and yes, I appreciate your opinion. I'm glad to hear this hasn't happened to you and hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. I've had a few other knives with the same problem where I can feel the blade, but didn't stick out enough to cut me like the Paladin, which is why I was very surprised when it happened. It's one thing if I intentionally jam my finger between the scales trying to cut myself, that's on me. I feel that when closed and in the pocket, a knife should not cause any kind of injury. As a left-handed person, if I reach in to the same pocket with the knife, my pinky finger slides down the handle spine. That could potentially ruin my day (sort of). Right-handed users would normally have the handle spine facing out with the knife in the pocket, for lefties it would be facing in. So I can totally understand why this issue might not happen to others, or the demographic of affected users would be very small. I do like the Paladin enough to go ahead and fix it. Thank you much for watching.

    The Paladin was my first Bestech. I thot it was wonderful and then I got the Swordfish. It became less wonderful. I cannot even feel the blade when I jam my thumb down on the scales. I am a right handed dominant guy with fat hands. This knife is great. I will sometimes carry a right handed setup knife in my left pocket. (The right one is already full.) I have no issue using my left hand for almost all of my knives. No deal breakers for me with my Paladin.. I might Dremel out the choil a bit to use it as a finger choil. Thanx for the good idea!
