I just did this mod on my lunch break,at,work, pretty simple, it's a bit different locations of things with my 07 tacoma, but same basic principal. Didn't have a connector for green wire so had to splice into it sadly, but all in all simple mod works great! Thank you for the step by step :)
Awesome! I spent about 10 minutes total on this and I'm so happy!! Thank you for the help! Worked on the 2013 Taco. Only difference the relay box was a little smaller so I bent the tab all the way around so it was pointing upward. Stoked! Thanks again
Just did this on my 2011 tacoma, layout was a little different but same concept, used stiff wire and bent it into place so no soldering necessary. great TUT!!!
You can bend the relay prong over and up around the relay so it is pointing straight up which will make wiring easier. Obviously just be careful with the bends. Great video by the way.
I used a small blue connecter female spade to connect to the relay. I used a knife/dremel to cut off the blue shield on the connector. Then stuck the wire throught the spade end. Not the way its suppose to be. That way whe the fuse is in with the connector the wire runs straight up. Instead of the way you had it, where the wire points down and turns back up and out. I had issues with the relay going back in with the bent connector. So i trimmed a bit inside the fuse box with a narrow razor blade to allow more room for the bent pronge. I jammed my wire in like you did. The fuse box covers will pinch the wires a bit but they are soft and will flex to let the wire run between them. 2015 trd offroad 4x4 automatic.
Never mind just did it at 11:11 at night haha live in California thanks big time been wanting to do this mod Forever just need the signals to say on like 2008 tacos and up got a 06
Hi there D 1st thx for your service. Now regarding the wire. What type of wire and where to buy. We no longer have Radio Shack in CA. So the wire u are running is diff colors. Out of the blue relay it’s black then half way thru u have black electrical tape applied, then it’s red that connects to the green wire, from the green wire connection it continues with more black tape applied going towards the battery. Hope ur not to busy to reply. Other then that very cool video. Thx brotha Henry
Henry Rosales just any 14-16 gauge wire running from the relay to the constant power, you don’t have to use the source power that I did, just any wire in the fuse box that has constant power. You could even use keyed/switched power.
Hey Dustin. Nice mod. One question since it's now plugged into an ignition power, mean you can't have the fogs on without the key in acc position? So if you don't have the key in you can only have the headlights on without fogs.
Great video do you think it's kinda the same setup on a 2016 LE model Corolla that didn't come with fog lights I bought a fog light kit and would like to install them will this type of method work like yours?
Yes you could jump off of any power source but I wouldn't go from relay to relay so you can't possibly affect anything else and you would have to cut or splice into that relay wire.
For your feed source @ the light green wire did you use a spade terminal or a fuse terminal pushed in behind the female terminal pin? I ask because I don't care for T taps or cutting into the harness either. I have a 2013 base cab and have to install an aftermarket kit I got from AUER with 3 connections necessary under the dash.
great vid! I do have one question. It looks like your red wire is splits and one side goes to the harness and the other goes to the relay. Is this true or does have some slack between the connections?
Hi there. I want to install the fog lights for my 2015 Toyota Sienna LE. I figured that I really don't want to mess the switch harness wiring that runs into driver side from engine firewall. There's another video of toyota yaris with fog light. The guy swapped his signal turning stalk with new one that has on/off fog light would looks "factory installed". I like to use it on the stalk instead of pressing the button on left next to the air vent. So is this possible to do is just make two fog lights wiring to the fuse box?
Treeck57 yes it is possible, I did it on my 2010 Corolla, the foglight wires were already there so I didn't install aftermarket wires, installed the relay and changed the stalk, no splicing or anything.
sweet. i'll be getting a 2015 tacoma in the fall, im in canada so our vehicles are wired to have the running lights on all the time without turning the interior lights on as well, so i don't know if this will be a problem at least for the running lights, but if it is, then i will be doing this mod myself =)
Does it matter which of the two ground pins you use? One side had more room for the bent pin to stick out (firewall side). Fogs turn on with the ignition switch. However, when I turned on the running lights the fogs turned off. I was wondering if maybe you had to use the grill side ground.
question 1. does anyone know if this works on the 2016? question 2. you said you used a multimeter. what kind of voltage needs to be supplied to that fog relay?
2. Use a multimeter. Find a wire or fuse that only has 12v power when the key is on the "on" position. This wire or fuse should not have power when the key is on the off position or removed.
I've done this mod to my 2011 Taco. Worked for a good while, but now my fogs won't work at all. Anyone else run into this? The bulbs are good, fuse looks fine, could it be the relay? Thanks
Reverse the mod and check it. If it works, check the wiring again. If it doesnt work, it might be the relay. Swap the relay with the one next to it. To check if the relay is bad or not.
I have never tried that mod, however a good writeup on how to do what you want is here, www.tacomaworld.com/threads/05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.1475/
Yes, but you may forget to turn off your fog lights and drain your battery. You only want power when the key is on the "on" position. Its better to find a wire with the correct power specs.
Are the fog lights still working fine , the relay didn't burn out I'm just wondering Cuz I just did this to my 2007 tacoma it works good so far. Hey this video U posted is awesome
Relay should not burn out because the signal source uses the same power measurement. If the wire some how got exposed and shorted out, then maybe. But its mostly plastic around these areas. If the wires on either end comes loose for any reason... you only lose power to you fog lights.
You have to be some what careful on which wire you tap into for power. Several things are voltage sensitive, needing a certain amount. You don't want to tap into the fuel pump power. That would be a lot of amps being drawn. Know what your power wire does before you tap into it.
@@CQN1HN Thanks for taking time to answer. One (problem) that I am continually having is my switch continues to show the light even when I turn off the engine. I've tried directly connect power to battery and the same.all my wiring to lights are correct. ???? (I Think) ???

glad it helped!

Nice job, Dustin. Thanks for video and detailed instructions.
I still have the same setup with no problems to date, glad it helped!
Great video, did it on my 2012 in under 3 mins. Thanks!!!!

Did this on my 05 Tacoma, straight forward and it work well as what you said. Thank you.
Thumbs up for the vet tag!
Thank you
Thanks for making this video. Very interesting, and informative.
Thanks! This worked for the 2013 Tacoma Base model.
Really cool mod, it worked on my 09 TC. Thanks
Great, I know I haven't had any issues and like the option to turn the fogs on when I want
Do you think the layout is similar on a '10 tacoma? Tryna get this up and going today hah
Already been said, but thanks for clear and concise information.
This works, as described in a 2014 Tacoma. Question: should a 15 amp mini fuse be inserted in the wire?
Always smart to insert a 10-15 amp fuse for safety.
Thanks for the video. And THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE🤙🏾🤙🏾

You can buy wires from autozone or oreilys. I usuall have a roll or 2. I used a black wire so it blends in better than the bright red wire.
You don't have DTRL you turned on the parking lights. Where did the red power wire start from?
Nice video, how well do the covers seat now with the wire running between the two boxes?
Works perfectly for my 2015! Thank you.
Thumbs up for the poison playing in the background ha ha!
great freaking video man. got an 09 Camry SE I wanna do this too. Nice job
Thanks, the basic idea is the same for the Camry
Dustin Hinds
Have you ever had any probloms with the lights or maybe the wiring holding all the current after a while of having it like that??
Hey Dustin. Nice mod. One question since it's now plugged into an ignition power, mean you can't have the fogs on without the key in acc position? So if you don't have the key in you can only have the headlights on without fogs.

How can you do this fog light mod on a 2005 Tacoma? And is there a real easy way to add DRL to a 2005 Tacoma as well?

Do you have anything under the tape where the red line changes to a black line? fuse? If not why the choice to change the wire color?
Thanks
Nice mod idea! I think you can use a piggyback fuse tap to accessory for better peace of mind.
Great vid! What type of wire did you use?

Thanks for sharing this video it work perfect on my truck. You the best!!
what plugging the wire into that pin what did you use. Just twist and push it in or did u put a spade connector or something on it?
Simple but rock n roll thanx for sharing
Can't you just wedge some plastic inside the relay body to hold the relay closed like you do for the always on cigarette lighters mod?
it was about 24AWG and stranded I just made sure that it was as least as large as the factory wiring.
This worked great
Great glad to hear that!!
great vid! I do have one question. It looks like your red wire is splits and one side goes to the harness and the other goes to the relay. Is this true or does have some slack between the connections?
Okay so how did you tap the red wire to the green again. I didn't quite get how you did it couldn't really see the connection point.
He just jammed it into the same connection that the green wire came out of
Yep just push the new wire into the slot firmly
Very cool! I'll have to do that to my 2013. Thanks for the tip!

Yes, same principal
Hey can i do that to my 06 Toyota tundra?...lmk

not sure exactly the gauge, I used a wire that was at least the same gauge as the other wires

Truth!
+J Anderson It's fine as is. Make the video yourself next time.
what the fuck veteran plate number?
ask your self why it was made the other way in the first place.....
does this same set-up apply to a 2015 toyota tacoma pre runner,...I'm still having wiring problems. Semper-Fi.
