- Just a short video replacing oil pan. Sorry for repeating myself for some reason I though the grey rtv took less time to cure. If you get the same rtv be sure to let it sit to cure.
Thank you very much for posting this video. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at what I do but it’s nice to watch someone else go through what you’re about to tackle. Best of luck with all your future endeavors.
Thank you the help, couldn't find a new gasket anywhere. Putting a newer engine in my 2007 Malibu and replacing the oil pan. But I like the grey stuff better and cheaper!
Thanks for watching, yes the grey stuff is great as long as you follow the cure time instructions.
@@HooptiesGarage what about the black stuff?
@@LiL_EyeBags I would use the grey but black would be probably be ok as long as you get the kind that's oil and heat rated for oil pans
Why didn’t you clean the oil pan out before you installed it? It’s super dirty

I am about to try this this week. Questions. Will a ratchet fit in that are between the pan and the frame? Would you use threadlocker on these bolts? if not on the one that just bolt the pan onto the engine, how about the one that bolts onto the compressor? Is there a way to find the correct torque specs for these bolts?
Also I have to change my compressor. I think it may be easier to do it when the pan is removed. What do you think?
Did you bolt on the oil pan with the sealant and waited 24 hours or did you put the sealant and waited 24 hours to bolt it back on ?
Put sealant on pan bolt it in and then wait 24
How did you get it off though. Ive taken out every bolt and it's not moving at all. I needed it off 2 days ago
If all the bolts are out it's just the sealer holding it, it can be tough to get off sometimes
Nice tutorial,How did you manage to pry the pan off I'm having a heck of a time with my hhr.
Yeah the sealant they use on there is very strong I just carefully pried on it at different points and used a rubber mallet
How much oil did it take to fill it up after putting the pan back on? I had to get a new dipstick tube and I put 5 and a half quarts in and the oil isn't even reaching the minimum line. New dipstick tube was the exact part number that comes up everywhere I look and what all the stores told me to get.
That doesn't sound right I don't think it calls for me than 5 quarts off the top of my head
@@HooptiesGarage Finally after hours of being in the phone with Chevy yesterday, they found out the part numbers for the dipsticks must have gotten messed up and I actually had to get the one that said it wouldn't fit my vehicle. I'm hoping we finally get it worked out, I'll get the dipstick tomorrow and find out for sure. I knew it was only supposed to take 5 quarts so that's what I put in and when it didn't register on the dipstick I added a little more then a little more till I had almost 5 and a half quarts in it and I didn't want to add any more than that. There were no leaks and the car ran fine with no codes popping up.
Got it off, ready to install new oil pan, but unable to move/or clear the back left corner of the oil pan past the passenger-side part of the subframe. Any suggestions?
Thanks u have nothing I didn’t already have
My friend can't get his dipstick back in the oil pan, any suggestions? It just wont fit in
I sometimes put a Phillips screw driver inside the tube and tap it down with a hammer gently.
Is it suppose to leak coolant when you remove the bolt that's connected to the air compressor?
No taking the oil pan off shouldn't leak any coolant.
you probably mean freon, and no, the compressor is sealed, the mounting holes do not freon
When I loosened that bolt freon did start coming out was that the wrong bolt to remove?
And Sometimes I like 2 use the Red Glue. When the Customer sees it they think it will go Faster.
🤣😂🤣😂
Same process even if I have a manual transmission ?
I believe so
I too....dropped socket in the hole LOL
How much did it cost for a oil pan in a junk yard?
I think it was around $20 our yards here are real reasonable usually
Just Slamit up in there. You can't hurt Junk. Lol. True story.
Is it possibñe to reply to this with a list of tools ill be using for this job please man? I have this very project for my cobalt but dont know what ill be using i would greatly appreciate it man. I subscribed btw.
Do you need to raise the engine to remove the pan and bolts on the passenger side?
No
@@HooptiesGarage this video was a deciding factor in being able to do it. Did it today and worked like a charm. You da man👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
@@HooptiesGarage I pulled one from a salvage yard last week and just yesterday pulled the bad one from the 2005 Cobalt that I bought. I had a fight with removing the dipstick tube from the one from the salvage yard as I heated it and it still broke off. But took my time and got the remainder of the tube out without damaging the pan. The one from the cracked pan came right out. So as far as I understand it, install the pan first and once it is in place then drop the dipstick tube in?
@@camaro2002rs yes i drop it in after i have the pan installed.
@@HooptiesGarage thanks so much! Tomorrow's project...installation!
Is replacing the o-rings on the dipstick absolutely necessary?
If they aren't leaking you can probably get away with it but while it's out it would be cheap insurance just to replace them.
Oreilly’s and amazon are the only ones that carry them in my area but oreillys will have to specialty order them
Is 1or 2 needed?
That's crazy O'Reilly doesn't have the orings. If it isn't leaking there you can probably get away with reusing them, worse case scenario you just pull dipstick tube again if you have too. I'm kind of shocked no one carries orings though.
How long did the process take
It's pretty simple probably less than a hour to change the pan, I used the gray rtv which takes approx 24 hours to cure
@@HooptiesGarage is the rtv a seal for it
@@HooptiesGarage and did you have to lift the car up
Yes they don't sell gaskets for that oil pan
yamabond, no longer manufactured cured shorter, was made by locktite
Is this method the same as a cobalt ls coupe??
Yes
Ok thanks
Man I replaced engine and noticed it has insane pitting on pan after I got it running good….. I’m so disappointed….
The one video youtube didn't have
Thanks
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
How do you remove the oil dipstick
vise grips...hammer
Will this work for an 06 model?
Yes
I hit a bump the other night really (bad pot hole) now I have a oil leak ! Smh
Yea o went to a junk yard a busted my pan had to fix there
Lmfao...what if they heard that socket move around in the frame and no one could ever figure out what the noise was.
Great video but I kinda cringed when I saw inside the bottom of that new oil pan.. man that thing was grody!
That's an 08
why are you not showing the most work of taking it off ? you are skipping the most important parts ! very strange nothing but show
I clearly show how to remove it and go over what you need this is a simple job if you need more than this then you probably shouldn't attempt.
@@HooptiesGarage ok im glad you see something i dont ! ive done attempt it and done it so little as you know i am a mechanic and happen to come across this pointless video
@@wayneanderson5975 I got a relatively good idea. I think he did a pretty good job. All he really skipped was actually taking the stuff off because he doesn't have a 3rd arm to hold the camera. I'm assuming this is the same or close on 07?
Bro you skip the part I wanted to watch. How to remove the oil pan
Sorry, it pulls down pretty easy.
gottiiiii
take da boLs out
Same car 2010 chevy cobalt
Haven’t watched video but this 💩 cars are the reason why i only work on toyotas.
Not a very helpful video
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
Same process for an 09?
Should be close to the same on all
