@6:00 It's the other way. The two indents are used for the light attachment nobs (the black twisty thing on your light). That small screw on the black twisty nob goes into that indent to make it more secure.

This video was really helpful! I got a c-stand and couldn't figure out how to assemble it. I almost unscrewed the legs to try to get them to open up. 😅 I'm glad I watched this video before I ruined my C-stand. So thank you 😊
cool video. Nice to see you stepping it up. There are reasons why Matthews stands are so expensive. Also, your baby pin is usually used the other way around to help keep lights from rotating. Good job promoting C-stands.
If you wanted to mount it the "traditional way", the screw tightener of the Gobo head should go on the arm, leaving the Gobo head to spin around. If you look at the Matthews catalog you'll see how the traditional setup is, well, setup. But really, having the arm and Gobo head as separate components allows you greater flexibility in solving your needs. Also, Kupo makes a Grip Arm Support that you use in conjunction with a 4-way clamp that will secure the Grip Arm when extended. I find it very helpful when using the Grip Arm to hold an overhead camera to keep it stable and prevent bounce. And, of course, don't forget to sandbag your C-stand and keep the highest leg pointed towards the load and your Gobo Head knob always to the right!

Hey thank Seth! depending on which one you get it will differ, but as I pointed out this stand is pretty awesome for the price point. another use commented that once you get one you will shortly find out that you will want another. And that is happening to me. I currently hang my Aputure 120d light from it which means I don't have the option of using it for my overhead shots, which I really want to do :( . I must keep away from amazon for a bit ha!
Bout this over a month ago and for that 100 buck price that’s a damn good deal. I got a Godox Slb60w and it holds it pretty well. I would recommend sandbags or weights
Nice - didn't realize Adorama made their own branded c-stands. I have a handful of the Matthews c+ stand with the turtle base and I LOVE them - don't love the PRICE of them but once you use a real c-stand it makes everything else seem like a joke. For $130 that's a pretty good deal and value. The problem with buying one c-stand is that you'll soon realize you need more!
yup, Mathews makes the best C Stands out there, I used them a lot at my old job. I think this one for my home shooting and occasional client work is perfect for the price though. Thanks so much for watching Duane!
@@JavierMercedes yeah it looked pretty nice - I only have those matthews ones because of FilmTools in Burbank - they are a bit close so when I go down there its difficult to resist their selection of grip gear - and now they sell cameras so its turning in to a real dangerous place!
If you need the boom arm, the c stand works the best. I've tried the lower tier stands, just not up to par, will break within months of repetitive uses.
Hi, this video was very useful for me. I'm thinking of buying my first C-stand and am curious about which is the best one to buy if you've never bought one before. Also, can I do overhead lighting with a C-stand? And, is the stand's reflective surface a real problem when shooting?
I have 2 c-stands and bought the baby pin and the way i connect it is the first way you did it so the grooves in the pin can go to your light but i think the 2nd way you did it also works too. As long as its tight. I want to get this C-stand only because of 2 things, the spring and the thread at the end which mine currently dont have but I bought mine for under $50 so not a big deal
The notches or holes on the baby pin. I think the gobo, knuckle joint holds the baby pin firmly anyway. I think the notches are to prevent your heavy strobe head with attached modifier from rotating under their own weight on the baby pin. I wish my Manfrotto Avenger baby pin had those notches.
You are in a large city. Contact your local film / television equipment house. I will bet they will be glad to sell you something similar. Look at comments more recent than yours. One comment says: HF Apache 9800 rifle case will hold 2 of these stands. And it has wheels to help with the weight - about 75 pounds.
I am having trouble attaching my deep softbox to my FP C-stand. I want to be able to adjust angles with it on the boom arm but it keeps rotating down due to the weight. Heeeeelp!
Sounds like you’re not setting it up with everything to the right. Look it up, the big handles on your gobo should be on your right side, otherwise it will undo itself with some weight
Im having trouble with the screw that is supposed to secure the shaft to the legs. There's a thing inside blocking the screw now and I don't know how to fix this.
If you are looking at C-Stands then this is the same kind of weight as any other C-Stand, In fact I would say that is is on the lighter side for a c-stand.
Every c stand made that is a real legitimate manufacturer are made of steel. This is for longevity when On set you can abuse them for years. Every aluminum stand made will wear and break down as the metal is not close To as durable as steel. Steel is real and working on larger productions around the world the c stand Is one of the foundations of every set. The weight is a standard. Not light but worth there weight in gold. Always Make sure to sand bag the large leg. Always
I not a fan of that spring in the C Stand and I think that spring would not last a lifetime but rather wear out over time. I would go with a Matthew C Stand instead. It would cost me $156.
You have the arm set up on the wrong side. The arm needs to be on the right side to follow the right hand rule to the arm with self tighten under load. You don’t need the extra baby pin you can just use the side of the arm opposite the grip head
Not sure how this is supposed to be a review especially since you clearly didn't seem to have any prior experience with c stands never mind an in depth understanding or experience of using different brands to formulate a proper opinion. More importantly there's no mention of how to properly setup this type of stand to ensure SAFE operation and avoid accidents which is a serious concern IMO I seriously recommend anyone watching this / contemplating getting their first c stand to go find and watch videos by pro photographers who have been working with such stands for years showing you how to properly setup c stands. IMO this is absolutely vital before attempting to use one for the first time, otherwise you could be asking for trouble !
@@oneeyedphotographer reviews should be done by competent individuals who know how to use equipment being reviewed and with more than enough experience of using the type of equipment being reviewed IMO and unfortunately this is clearly not the case here. Person isn't even sure if it's mounted correctly and is asking for peeps to put info in the comments if he got it wrong ... hmmm, this doesn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever; hence my not so positive critique
@@oneeyedphotographer to say here is a product and it works should be a given, but if you are going to do a review then at least compare it against other similar products and how it fairs & pros/cons. Also if any product can cause accidents and damaged if used incorrectly I would hope for a section on safe usage with some appropriate demonstration if possible. Also saying I'm not sure if this is the correct way to mount something and asking for feedback on this in the reviews doesn't bode well, it lacks proper recearch. All in all I felt that I needed to say something and to advice anyone thinking of getting a C stand, especially for the first time, to do a bit more research and to look at other videos before rushing out and getting one. I have no issues recommend C stands in general, but I'd advise caution and would ask anyone to get to know them and how to use them first.
@@vickosis Thank you. Now the UA-camr has some advice to help make better videos in the future. For me personally, I was looking for general advice I could apply to a C stand I already own. For comparing, I have reservations. Posing the question "Which camera is best for you" is generally unhelpful. There maybe one or two camera systems best for a particular camera, for me for years that was Canon DSLRs, and that was because of particular lenses. Today I am now using those lenses on a mirrorless body of a different brand and I have lost nothing, and now I can make photos I could not before. Regarding C stands, for me it's too late to worry about quality, features. I need to know how to assemble it and use it safely. Videos addressing my needs are surprisingly scarce.
Leave a big 👍 if this helped! Let me know how the grip head is supposed to go on the arm.

The spring noise reminds me of Jurraccic park 3
Great video sir. I really think you have it assembled correctly. I am going to purchase mine today. Thanks for the video.

Im having trouble with the screw that is supposed to secure the shaft to the legs. There's a thing inside blocking the screw now and I don't know how to fix this.

I've read comments about it being too heavy. Do you feel it's too heavy?
If you are looking at C-Stands then this is the same kind of weight as any other C-Stand, In fact I would say that is is on the lighter side for a c-stand.
Every c stand made that is a real legitimate manufacturer are made of steel. This is for longevity when On set you can abuse them for years. Every aluminum stand made will wear and break down as the metal is not close
To as durable as steel. Steel is real and working on larger productions around the world the c stand Is one of the foundations of every set. The weight is a standard. Not light but worth there weight in gold. Always Make sure to sand bag the large leg. Always
c-stands are heavy, it's not a bug but a feature

I not a fan of that spring in the C Stand and I think that spring would not last a lifetime but rather wear out over time. I would go with a Matthew C Stand instead. It would cost me $156.
I believe the company name is "Matthews".

06:20 that's wrong setting up. The weight of the camera will loosen the gobo. Always put the weigh on opposite side and that will tighten the lock.
So muchThank ýou

You have the arm set up on the wrong side. The arm needs to be on the right side to follow the right hand rule to the arm with self tighten under load. You don’t need the extra baby pin you can just use the side of the arm opposite the grip head
Whew! Thank you! I just bought one and mine didn't come with a baby pin.

That's a grip head, not a gobo. Also, lefty loosey, righty tighty, before there's an accident.

You keep calling the grip knuckles "gobos", thats not what they are. They are "grip knuckles" {just FYI....}
Thanks for the input!

Not sure how this is supposed to be a review especially since you clearly didn't seem to have any prior experience with c stands never mind an in depth understanding or experience of using different brands to formulate a proper opinion.
More importantly there's no mention of how to properly setup this type of stand to ensure SAFE operation and avoid accidents which is a serious concern IMO
I seriously recommend anyone watching this / contemplating getting their first c stand to go find and watch videos by pro photographers who have been working with such stands for years showing you how to properly setup c stands. IMO this is absolutely vital before attempting to use one for the first time, otherwise you could be asking for trouble !
Your advice would be more useful if you describes what's wrong with the advice in the video.
@@vickosis You critiqued the reviewer, I asked about the video.
