loving 3 & 8... the full ones where you don't see the light source... super clean & detailed. and thanks for this video!
Wauw by far best tutorial to photo iris. Thnx for posting dude.
🙏
this made me realize how weird is it that human beings like to put paint on the little hair around their eyes to look pretty
These are gorgeous! Thanks for the information as well :)
I've been teaching myself to draw...in my old age several years ago...and lately I've been obsessed with eyes, but realized it was mostly with the iris even more then the entire eye. I've tried to take pictures of my own just for a reference, but just using my phone, hand held...obviously nothing great...but it was fun to see all the little soft stingy bits in the blue and they look flowy though they probably aren't. Just one orange spot, but I think its just basically like a freckle on the eye. But, I'd LOVE to get a much closer look at it, to see the fine details, even though I'm sure there will be nothing like these amazing eyes you have here. But could be fun to draw detail of my own eye and move to also later adding watercolor.
I did notice how hard it was to get a true read on my eye color...they're are blue, not the gorgeous bright turquoise of these eye here, but not dark blue at all. But in one spot them looked super green, in another I got closer to the natural color.
Anyway, I'm just looking around for ideas :) in real bad health right now so this is enough to wear me out and definitely no money to buy a macro lense, but, one day!! :)
Thanks!!!
Thank you brother, I was waiting for this for a bit. It's amazing...
Great you liked it;)
Interesting idea. Thanks. Suggestion: cut the background music, your voice is all I want to hear :-)
wow.. beautiful and brilliant..
i will try with my laowa 100mm on z6
Great video. I followed your guide but used an iPhone camera with macro lens and a mirror to make sure my eye was in the frame and also to set manual focus. And a torch as the light source. Pretty happy with the results - although disappointed that I don’t have ‘exciting’ eyes with amazing structures within them 😊. Thanks Jens. I love your videos. 👍🏽
Can you show us the results ?
Thank you for the informative video. Will be trying it this weekend.
Did it work?;)
@@anotherperspective3076 No, epic fail, back to the drawing board.
Amazing!!!
Thank you:)
Amazing macros!
Thank you
Brilliant video.
Thank you!
Have an s23 ultra the shots I've gotten with the ultra wide are crazy!
That is amazing. Can you create a post processing tutorial please.
Its wonderful 😀
Thank you;)
Super macro..
Thank you:)
Great instructional video! How do you capture the iris in its entirety? How do you get it perfectly round?
Great video
Thank you
So... let's say... to a canon user which lens would you suggest for macro iris photography?
Laowa 90mm/100mm 2:1 will work great. But you can use any prime macro lens that supports 1:1 - 2:1 magnification. Even the 100 euro china versions do their job when you do some post processing in lightroom/denoise
@@anotherperspective3076 thank you very much for your your instant response!!!!!
Amazing photos! Im trying with my phone and some lenses i git from stuff but im afraid that the light im using will damage my eye. What cautions should i take?
Re-visit of prior video content, but well done, Jens. Don’t recall seeing inset transparency before; effective. #4, high key effect my fav, something different. How about vid covering finger swirls (as in unique swirls that produce fingerprints?) Ears, maybe? Winter not far off - snowflakes revisited. Cheers!
Never took macros of other parts of the human, body, but I will give this a try;)
I fell in love with all the photos😍. What camera did you use for these photos? I'm from Brazil, I still don't speak English very well.
Thank you:) sony a6300
Thank you ^-^@@anotherperspective3076
Thank you.
Woaw
Thanks Mate
Would you say in general it is "better" to have a dilated or a constricted iris? As in your videos you can see that in the dilated iris the structures are much more 3D as the "material" gets squished together.
Is there a way to remove or greatly minimize the reflection of the eyelashes?
I use lightroom removal Tool. But the best way is to Pull eye lid to avoid reflections
thank you for the video, what are the best settings for Macro Photography using Canon EOS R with Len 25-105 , thank you
Hey,
25-105 is not supporting macro magnifications, right? If it does: focus at 1:1, F11-F13 and use if possible off camera flash from the side
@@anotherperspective3076 thank you for your reply, I have ordered canon rf 100mm f2.8l macro IS USM for the task that I need, especially IRIS photography
@@lordfiras ok thats sounds good
@@anotherperspective3076 thank you, I really care for your opinion as you are teaching everyone for no return and that is amazing
Hi i really love how you captured those iris.. is there anyway you can help me set my sony Nex-5 please thanks
Hey, what lens are you using?
Optical steady shot 3.5-6/18-55 OSS
Hello sir i do appreciate your feedback 😊😊😊😊 thanks
thank you for grate tutorial! I want to try
You are welcome😃
any iris photography lens suggestion for sony camera?
Sony90mm is great, but any 2:1 lens of laowa will also be a great choice as those are a little cheaper and offer higher magnification (I really would not go beyond 1;1 as the field of depth is then smaller than the height of the iris)
Have you ever tried to use your Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens for iris photography? I'm thinking of buying the probe to use with iris photography but I don't know if it's suited for that use
Hey, yes I have, but I would not buy it for iris photography. I use it 95% of the time for macro video, not photography. The sharpness is not as good as "standard" marco lens (f.E. sony 90mm) and you have to get very close. Will you use the probe also for other things or do you plan to buy a lens only for iris photography?
@@anotherperspective3076 Yes, I was also planning to use it for other purposes, such as macro still pictures and videos of watches and jewelry. But I'm experimenting with Iris photography with my Canon 6D with my macro lens Canon 100mm f 2.8 The problem is that I don’t get enough sharpness in the pictures. And I was hoping that this Probe lens in standard edition (note cine edition) could do the work.
What light to use with appurture F20
Any off camera flash will work.
Awesome! Do you use some kind of filter on the lens?
Thank you. No filters used;)
Hola ! I saw your pope diffuser video, I was wondering if its better to shoot iris photos 'with or without' flash and the pope diffuser , greetings from Mexico
Hey as the diffuser creates a big reflection i prefere small hard light sources
Hi. Great video. Do you take the photo in a dark room (with flash ect) - to avoid reflections?
Hey thank you. When you use a very bright flash there wont be any reflections visible as the light source is a lot brighter than the other light in the room. Without a flash its a good ideas to shoot in a dark room to avoid reflections
Love it. But how do you remove the light reflection??
Thats great to hear. If there are reflection I use the spot removal tool in lightroom
Hi! Excellent channel and great content! Thanks for sharing your work! One question: Does autofocus still work with the Raynox on?
Hey thank you, yes it works, but at high magnification it is not very accurate

I have canon 200d mark-2 with shortlens ,I didn't get any focus on iso 400 f8 in manual mode and it's completely dark.
But in auto mode it is focus from some far distance I cannot get the clear iris image .
What should I do and what are the settings ??
What light source are you using?
@@anotherperspective3076 I'm using 2 mobile flash lights for clearing the shadows from the other side
Does using the shortlens is fine or should I have to use only macro lens ???
Btw I have only shortlens
Sorry what is a shortlens a kit lens? Even of you wont get enough Detail i am confused that you get black Images with those settings
When using mobile flash you need to get extremely close to the eye, otherwise the light is probably not strong enough. Or Start with higher ISO
What lens do you use?
Sony 90mm, sometime with additional raynox dcr 250
I have 6 color eyes, I really want an extreme detail photo of it.... how do I go about doing this?
What gear do you have`?
@@anotherperspective3076 none lmfao
Hi, using Sony 90mm, how close between the end of the lens and the eyes did you do? When i am using auto, i cannot get any closer than 20cm.
Hello Halim, I use same lens, have find answer? Thank's
@@maconly34 at the moment, i keep at 30cm and then crop the area. I am using A7Riii, therefore I have enough megapixel to play with. Also i do not set the lens distance button to be less than 0.5 meter as my camera keeps on hunting for focus.
@@halimrahman Thank you. Aren't you using manual focus?
And concerning the lighting, do you use a flash on the side of the eye ?
What question ive been wonderin for years is. Why is there holes on the eye.. Next to the dark hole thing.
any lens you recommend for canon 5d4?
As I am a sony user, thats diffucult for me, sorry;)
thanl, i prefer 2-3-5-8 lol
Thank you😃👌
3 and 8 :-))
Thank you for your feedback
Thank you for your sharing. But I'm pretty desperate. I took iris photos with my smartphone (Google pixel 5) and a quality macro lens (moment). But I decided to invest in a real camera (Sony A7R2) with a macro lens (Sony FE 50mm F/2.8), a shutter release remote and a tripod. This material not that I am dissatisfied with the really incredible result that I could have with my smartphone (I have never seen anyone have results as good as mine with a smartphone), but to improve the ergonomics, personal comfort. With an invertible tripod, I am able to put the subject in a lying position, which is much more stable and comfortable... The problem is that after a few tests, with different settings (recommended on different tutorials), I don't I don't have satisfactory results, I know that one day I will find the appropriate settings, but for the moment this is not the case, I must provide a service in a few days and I will have to use my smartphone because I am not able to use my camera. I would love to find a photographer who can teach me how to use it and explain the settings to me. I don't have time right now to spend hours trying out different settings, and a pro could save me some time. I don't know, maybe the settings are particular on my Sony, for example we recommend ISO100 for the iris photo, but I heard that my camera with its CMOS sensor could go up more in the iso.. . I hope that someone could help me. 🙂
What light source are you using? Id go with f9, 1/160s iso100-400 using off camera flash from side
@@anotherperspective3076 Thank you very much for your quick response! I was using a continuous light (torchlight) for the photos I took with my smartphone. With the Sony, having done a lot of research, I chose to use a continuous light, because I found the remote flash system too expensive and difficult to set up. I'm thinking of replacing my flashlight (which was giving good results) with "articulated arm" macro lighting, which I can clip to the foot of my tripod with adapters, the advantage is that the light output is very small (therefore reflection minimal ), but maybe the power is not enough... I will send you a link to the lighting I use. PS: sorry if my English is not good.
@@wordofiris1130 what settings did you use and what iso?
The first ones I did with settings like: "1/100 f8.0 ISO100" or "1/125 F11 ISO100" were too dark. I was able to get something right by increasing the isos to 400, 800, and even 2000. But these are not very good results (Iris not clear, too bright, not enough detail etc) I know it would take patience, and I have to keep doing tests. But it's true only if I could find someone to explain to me. I am a very perfectionist and complex person but I also like simplicity. All these settings and these bad results are driving me a little crazy, I also currently have a lot of projects that take my time and I can't take the time to use my Sony device. It is for this reason that for my appointment I think I will use my smartphone, the comfort and ergonomics are very bad, but at least I manage to have good results. I will still try to edit my photos taken with the sony ... 🙂
Pretty cool content again!!👏
One more question. In my experiences, I’m always getting the opposite corner of the iris from the flash, with a very bright aspect. I wasn’t able to get an Iris with the same amount of light well distributed. Any ideas how to avoid that?
Can you show an example image somewhere? Some times I use two off-camera flashes but most of the time I am satisfied with one light source.
@@anotherperspective3076 Yes, thank you for the help! I can send you the image in Instagram maybe? Do you have Instagram? What is your name there?
Yes, you can;) instagram.com/anotherperspective_yt/
Thanks for the image, I have sent a message
What if all you have was a mobile device?
The new Iphone seem to have a great macro lens but I have not tested yet. Iris photograph with phone is no problem, but the resolution will be lower
I seem to be unable to get the shot ... Om-1, 60mm macro, fl700 speedlight, iso 640 ... f5.6 snd 1/100s ... all the ingredients are there, but my image is too dark. Even the Adaptalux new bright Led light doesn't help... will try with a bigger Led next.... ich schnall's echt nicht
I always thought our irises look like shades of makeup/ talcon powder. Lol

I have brown eyes and have a little heterochromia in my left iris. I visited a photographer who took a pic about that iris and the heterochromia doesnt even be seen. I took a picture with a Huawei pro and its shows better but its obviously not that proffessional so I dont know what to do. I really want to do a pic where the heterochromia beautifully can be seen.
Danke. Die Bilder sind super nur das überbelichtete gefällt mir überhaupt nicht.
Vielen Dank für dein Feedback;)
I RANDOMLY FOUND OUT I HAD HETEROCHROMIA??
