Iraqs army was dreadful. The Iranians pushed them out without a proper standing army using air power and ambushes, the Iraqis only got good in the 80s when the Iranians started really pushing for basra, but even then they were mediocre at best. Probably better than the Iraqi army of today but that's about it

Let us not forget, Iran was not just fighting with Iraq. Many countries were supporting Sadam with arms and intelligence; they world did nothing when Sadam used chemical weapons and finally US shot down Iranian airliner to signal the end of the war. I believe he served a short term as Saddam's deputy, but had to retire due to disagreement with Saddam. Saddam however allowed him to live despite their differences. Later he became the assembly speaker and reappeared on UA-cam denouncing the sanctions that caused many Iraqi children to die. He survived the fall of Saddam and died several years later. He was elderly by the time of his death. If more Westerners knew about him maybe the 2003 war would not have happened.

Iran's revenge against Iraq was delivered by the US from 1991 onward. If there's any revenge to be taken out, it deserves to be taken out on Saudi Arabia by both Iraq AND Iran for constantly advancing imperialist interests in the region.

They started committing terrorist attacks that targeted movie theaters and universities in the eighties. Crazy to think that the Middle East was a hell of a lot more secular 35-65 years ago then it is now in the 21st century. Obviously that has a lot to do with the second Iraq war, '79 Iran revolution, Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, '53 CIA backed coup in Iran (which was a disaster and done solely for the bidding of the elite to put a Pro American leader in and to take a democratically elected leader out), and we could probably start this endeavor with the 1947 war with Israel starting their land grab and occupation for the last half a dozen decades plus. I love my country but these idiot politicians, lobbyist, the MSM, religious neocon right wingers, and the M.I.C have a big hand in messing up and destabilizing the Middle East. Of course there's other countries, history, Sunni/ Shiite riff, and other factors as well that started/ intensified this radical element. I hope to live to see the day where a Ron Paul gets elected and we can bring all of our brave men and women home and shut down these military bases all over the world. We have no worries of another country coming to attack us at home. That is a ridiculous notion, we have arguably the strongest military the world has ever known and is really not our position to police the world. Obviously we would trade and keep good relationships with other countries, but I don't see why we have to get into these conflict. Yes, I understand the possibilities and scenarios that could happen if the United States would leave the world stage but, why can't the E.U. pick up some slack instead of just the US stepping in while they can use their tax money at home instead of building up a formidable military force. Anyway I'm going to stop here this comment has gone on too long and there is still so many more factors but that's just how I feel right now lol.
