      It's not Orwellian, it's Christian moralism at its finest. Imposed by our Christian Democratic Party. I don't mind strict regulations of alcohol/drugs, but they have to make sense. The sales hours of alcohol in Norway serves no purpose at all and is absolutely ridiculous. It's just the closest thing these religious fundamentalists could get to prohibition, which is what they really want.

    • @sh0werp0wer
      @sh0werp0wer 5 років тому +2

      @Jazzhandedly You're quite obviously completely ignorant of Norwegian political history, and how Norwegian parliamentary politics work. You don't have to be part of a majority government in order to get your key issues through - that's the whole crux of multi-party parliamentary politics, and also, unfortunately, one of the downsides.
      Restrictive alcohol policies, and more specifically, the alcohol sales hours, have always been a Christian Democratic Party issue, and other political parties have conceded this issue in order to get their support on other issues.
      That's how this political system works. If the issue isn't too important to the major parties, they'll gladly concede minor issues, or "throw a bone" as one may say, to minor parties in order to get their support on more major issues, like tax reforms, health reforms, etc.
      That's how the Christian Democratic Party has single-handedly shaped most of the alcohol politics in Norway, because restricting the alcohol sales hours haven't been a major concession for the other parties, in order to gain their support for other, more important issues.
      This is why many argue that the election threshold (sperregrensen) should be higher, because parties hovering around 4-5% gets a disproportionate amount of power, especially on single issues like this.
      So yes, it is 100% the Christian Democratic Party. Don't be a politically ignorant tool.

    I lived in Pennsylvania and it was a lot like that too. But 3 o'clock? Wow. But what it meant was that everyone just kept huge stashes of alcohol in their homes. People would literally have 3, 4, 6 cases of beer in the kitchen...just in case.
    When I first moved there, I went into a seven eleven looking for beer. I circled the store a couple of times and then asked the clerk. He just laughed, "you have to go to a state run beer distributor." "Okay, where's that." "Long since closed."
    Oh, and you can only by a case of beer. I'm serious, no singles, no six packs. You have to buy a case.

    I have Swedish friends and remember going to the alcohol shop for the first time. My friend took a ticket and we had to wait our turn. In those days you were not allowed to touch any bottles/cans until you had paid for them. Now you can touch the merchandise but the state still controls where booze is sold. Where I live I am in 2/3 seconds driving where I c an buy drink, Waitrose and Lidl supermarkets. The garage has a shop and is open 24 hours so should you fancy a bottle of wine at 2am in the morning just nip down and get one lol. The last shop is B&M which is one of those budget shops and they now also sell sell alcohol. All those shops are almost next door to one another. My Swedish friends love going to supermarkets here in the UK.

      You are wrong my friend, I agree with you about alcoholism being a huge problem but the government doesn't has the right to forbid a citizen who pay taxes to drink alcohol, this is pure socialism. Why should a government do this? Don't forget about the fact that a government is created to serve their citizens, they don't have such right to prohibit you to do things that doesn't affect others. Besides this, when the government controls the licuor stores creates a bad Monopoly with a huge bureocracy than ends up affecting the prices, probably in Norway the alcohol prices are high, if not is because the government use tax payers's money to keep them low. We shouldn't allow thing like this to happen. It does matter if it makes you harm, if you don't affect others the government doesn't have any right.

    Norway has a culture of buying the things we need the same day we need it. With some "simple" planning, lets say, buying the alcohol for the weekend during a weekday.. shouldnt really be too hard. Here in Florida USA liquor stores are open 9 am to 10 pm every day and on Sunday 11 am to 7 pm. You can buy wine and beer at any grocery store, also open every day but holidays like Christmas Day. The typical bottle of chardonnay is about $6-$10. We can also buy wine and beer at convenience stores / gas stations like Circle K, and they are open late, but more expensive. My question is can you buy wine and beer at these places when the state store is closed ?

The owner was a back then granny, who lived in the same building. In front of the door, there was a bell. I think the only restrictions I've had when buying Alcohol here in London is when I used to live literally next door to Wembley stadium, and on match day they wouldn't sell alcohol 1 hour before a game/show starts and one hour afterwards, mainly just to stop people arriving at football matches drunk.
    Other then that, you can buy any type of drink at any time and on any day, if the stores open and sells alcohol and you're over 18, then you can get as much of anything you can afford.
