      Or build new like a clutch using a friction pin. to connect a gear.

    I believe lego could easy release a motor and pieces that can take this car to something close to the real RC models at high speed, but dont do that because its afraid of kids breaking the toy and adult parents complaining lego sold a dangerous toy.

      Have you never owned any RC cars as a kid? They are being sold to kids all the time and nobody has died yet. Sure you don't need one with a combustion engine that can go 75mph, but this Lego thing is just extremely slow. Kids are not that dumb unless raised to be that by their parents.

Then after downloading the App, he had just the best fun in driving it, as did his 4yr old sister. For $120 AUD it is good value, time with the grandies priceless. Adults buying and building it for themselves may not get as much fun or value. Cheers

    • @Moonstalker
      @Moonstalker 4 роки тому +3

      @Toby N. that's true, but actually I think lego can think about inwheel motors instead. it sure isn't very realistic from a mechanical point of view but that kind of motors can revolutionize MOCs in so many ways.
      also for propulsion and simulate mechanics as you can still have a "fake" transmission as you can have the motors transmitting towards a fake piston engine.
      So in the end you can have a lego with some 15 kph of speed without breaking anything.

    • @cyborgpunk6668
      @cyborgpunk6668 4 роки тому

      Moonstalker that seems very legit but I think one problem is that if the Technic car goes too fast the amount of rumbling might result in pieces flying off or a bump might result in a big crash. Though back in the early 2000s they had this big green radio controlled RC lego racer that can go really dang fast but it only had like a couple of pieces. It was kinda hard to tell it was even a lego

      Moonstalker my lego racers car from like 2008 (I think) that’s yellow (around 5 inch long) can go speed walking running speed and even drift on sooth surface turns. It had a custom power function kit that was the whole car chassis body (including steering) and I’m surprised not even my 2019 4x4 Technic off roader could match the speed at all which is quite disappointing yet that racers RC has wheels that are less than an inch in diameter. The lego racers RC series could go pretty dang fast. Man back in the day around the early 2000s Lego RCs were so much more rad

      @@cyborgpunk6668 I never had those but I don't mind not that fast lego, however I do mind when it's boringly slow.

    This set is pretty much a perfect example of taking things I love (Top Gear, cars and Lego) and messing it up when putting them together in a bad way. It's amazing how very unappealing this set is, even for me! I knew this would be bad but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad!
    Even I thought before this review that it looked like it was based on the 42077 Rally Car from a couple years back, which is significantly cheaper nowadays at £55, even if it does forgo the Control+ stuff. I don't expect this to do too well with that high price and the niche-ness of it; there's a lot of significantly nicer sets at that price or lower, even if they don't have Control+.
    Even the 42099: 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader
    is already half off at £100 and thus cheaper and the better choice than the Top Gear set, if you really want the Control+ system.

    In my opinion, the car keeps going to the left because of "torque steer". This results from the lengths of left and right drive shafts are not equal. Usually, it's the case for transverse front engine, front wheel drive with high torque in the real car. Unfortunately, the software cannot correct this unless you can distribute power between left and right drive wheels.

    The best thought was: "Why Oh Why LEGO Put This New Defferential in This Particular Set??"
    It would surely make 42099 too innovating for Lego's liking porbably. New wheel hubs, electrics, "biscuits" and imagine this heavy-duty differential as well!
    BTW, our Lego Ambassador explained to me that "All new electric parts are "Powered UP" family. "Control Plus" is just the name of the app."
    A train hub, "Boost" hub, this "C+" hub, even 6-port "Spike" hub can work together, he said, in the PU app since version 3.0.0 release a couple of weeks ago. Indeed they do up to 4 in one program.

      I doubt a really fast 1/8 size lego car is actually possible. The motor power needed to move that weight would probably be more than the lego components can actually withstand. It would chew through gears and axles needing continual replacements.

      @Aj-894 4 роки тому

      Johan Sten that’s why I was hoping Lego would make a powerful enough rc motor- like thoes really old buggy motors but idk- I’m currently in the process of adding actual rc components to my Bugatti Chiron

      @@Aj-894 Like I said, a motor strong enough to move the Chiron or similar at speeds that would actually feel fast would absolutely *shred* the gears! The plastic components simply aren't built to handle those forces!

    I wonder why lego doesn't do a modular controller device using bluetooth or whatever system the brick uses.
    For me and probably for others here it might be a better option than a smartphone for that.
    Sure if we see the Liebherr and what it can do the smart device appears to be great as it can program a lot of things.
    But for me I like my legos to be sort of "stand alone"
    I bet people have trouble to make old minstorms to work, or the cybermaster to work. So how is this will hold up ?
    As for the video game aspect, I think that's completely gimmicky. I'm not saying this is bad or against it. but really for me a lego set is about getting fun with your lego.
    It's about getting fun with what you are building and fun while you are playing with it. I'm not sure kids will enjoy a 3 kph rally car even if a lego isn't about performance which it didn't do with PF but 7kph would be at least descent for that kind of set.

    Lego needs to make tougher parts and/or more powerful motors that will appeal to older audiences who expect more performance out of their Lego Technic vehicles. I really do think there is a market for this. Also, this vehicle's performance is by far the worst I have ever experienced or seen from a Lego vehicle. EVER

      CN Gaming a kid would have no trouble building this, even 42056 is easy enough. I’m practically a kid myself, 16 years of age, and well even I’m disappointed with this set. LEGO would have to introduce a faster motor for this to hit a faster speed like e.g. the RC Buggy Motors (45 mph would be overkill though XD)
