Johnny, I discovered this show earlier this year and your enthusiasm for your hobby has inspired me to get back into something I fell out of love with a few years ago now, so I have to thank you for that
Johnny, thanks. I look forward to new episodes each week and your enthusiasm is totally infectious. You rock. Really looking forward to seeing the DQ episode with Kim!
@@coretaku Agreed. I believe he said something about how he stopped doing those because people complained about them not being relevant, but honestly there's a lot of overlap between the gaming and anime fandoms, especially if we consider JRPGs. Personally I discovered some great animes through the recommendations on this channel, like Arion and Megazone 23.
@@Reginmund No doubt. Johnny has led me to some seriously great things over the years. Still one of my favorites that he's introduced me to is Bubblegum Crisis, and all of the fantastical music it comes with. His story with that anime alone just crushes my 90s experiences of anime. Without a question.
Completely agree. Gunbuster, Poject A-ko, Venus Wars, etc. I only came to know about them from him. Not only that but the episodes are great to watch because of his personal experience and excitement. I only wish I would know about these kickstarters ahead of time, I always miss them.
9:35 The Xbox 360 port of Symphony of the Night actually got released physically as part of the "Konami Classics vol. 1" disc around a decade or so ago
Kotor remake didn't get cancelled, the current info is that the parent company didn't like aspyr's direction and moved it to another internal studio within the company.
My recent pickups are finally getting the last few dvd releases of You’re Under Arrest that I was missing. Took some work to track down the last few I needed. Gonna binge the series now.
Hey Johnny, just wanted to say that I look forward to your show every week. It's a highlight of my weekend where I get to sit down with a hot cup of coffee, and listen to your stories. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and heartwarming.
Speaking of Grandia, I just picked up the Grandia HD Collection on Switch. I LOVED Bubblegum Crisis when I was younger. I still have it in my collection to this day.
I didn't get any game stuff this week I don't think but I managed to finally get rid of the last bits of furniture in the bedroom I'm having converted into a game room. Ordered the TV going in there but it's probably going straight into the closet until the room gets repainted
Thank you Johnny for the Bitmap 'Go Straight' recommendation, I grew up playing a ton of 'Golden Axe' and 'Double Dragon' etc, the detail looks amazing, can't wait to get a copy!!!
Went to The Portland Retro Expo yesterday and picked up: 1) KOTOR 2 2) Counter Strike 3) Morrowind 4) FEAR 2 Project Origins 5) TMNT Cowabunga Collection 6) LOTR: The Third Age 7) NFL 2K5 8) Goldeneye Rogue Agent
I’m surprised you didn’t get the zombies ate my neighbors collectors edition. Might be my favorite limited run release of all time! Excellent stuff man
Double dragon, golden axe, streets of rage, splatter house played in the arcade back in the day. Our arcade was in a rough area of town so you took your life in your hands getting there. After running the gambit of dodgy dealers, gangs, etc al, one was greeted with “spitters will be prosecuted…after they leave hospital” sprayed on the wall, in massive letter, by the entrance 😂 all worth it of course!
As always u are a legendary presenter 🤩 I could literally watch you 24-7! I don't have many friends but I wish you was one of them, so I could talk to you for hours about all game retro related and manga and all sort!!! Rant over ! Never stop making your content 😎🤙
Been picking up tons of Evercade carts these days. Renovation Collection being one of them, featuring Guy Are Us. Jaleco Arcade and Console collections, Xenocrisis/Tanglewood, and others. Can’t wait for the C64 collection as well as Cathedral coming soon as well.
I recently picked up and finished Gerda: A flame in Winter and really liked it! Some of the choices in that game is among the hardest i have ever encounterd in a game. Also, the artstyle is brilliant!
Thanks for this HCG. I'm definitely picking up the beat em up history book. FYI there is one for JRPGs as well. Discovered it while looking for Go Straight. It looks fantastic and the cover art alone is purchase-worthy. Got mine coming next week!
Very nice pickups HCG.. I recently picked up The Diofield Chronicles, Nier Automata The End of YoRHa Edition, and No Place for Bravery.. I also picked up Dusk from Limited Run. 🔥
Lunchtime with HCG! I have the Ultimate Edition of Castlevania Requiem on order soon so glad you got yours...mine should be coming. Also I nearly snorted tea out my nose when you posted the Dynamite Ducks picture from the book. Bitmap has done an excellent job with their RPG books....not shocked they did the same with the brawlers as well!
Kotor II actually got good reviews! I think reviewers critized some bugs that it had at launch and the ending of the game but other than that it was very well acclaimed. Granted - maybe not as much as the first game but a 85 metacritic Score is still really solid I would say.
awesome episode. i picked up the blu-ray ultra edition box set for one of my favorite anime shows ever. Mobile Fighter G Gundam. excited for the Yu Yu Hakusho 30th anniversary set as well.
Congrats on the Xenoblade 3 Limited Edition. Would have loved one but alas the website crashed in Europe as well ^^ and now the stuff goes for 5x the price on ebay. no way i will pay that
Amazing episode as always! I think the new game stuff episodes are my fave! Especially as fan of older anime, I loved learning about one that i have never seen. I picked up xenoblade 3, havent started it yet. Still working on live a live. And I'm gonna be getting mario rabbids this Fri as well.
Thanks for the tip on “Go Straight!” I’ll be picking that up as well. Recent pickup from me that I really enjoyed-Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights (physical version from Limited Run Games). Also, I just received my shipping notification for my Phantasy Star Vinyl soundtrack. Absolutely can’t wait for that one!
I was travelling in the States back in April (I'm from the UK) and randomly picked up Tony Hawks on Switch at a Walmart in DC because it was on sale, genuinely cancelled my evening plans and played it all night. Despite the 30fps performance it's still absolutely classic stuff.
I ordered a Jotaro hat. Also picked up some Harry Potter games for PS2, and the Pawn Shop tossed in a Tony Hawk and Need For Speed game on GameCube for free. Oh, I also got a copy of Mario Paint with the mouse.
Bitmap Books are awesome. Really recommend them. This isn't sponsored. Please can you do a video about retro game shops in Canada and please can you bring Pete Dorr back on the channel? Great pick ups and video Johnny! :)
I just got NieR Automata on the Switch and played through ending E and loved it way more than I even expected. Now I have NieR Replicant coming today to play through.
The remake for KOTOR hasn't been cancelled. It's basically been put in "delayed indefinitely" status because from everything I've read online Embracer Group is most likely taking it away from the company that was making it (Aspyr) and probably handing it off to someone else. Nothing's official, of course, but it seems like this is more like with what happened with FFVII Remake. An outside company was going to be making Remake at first, Square Enix wasn't happy, so they went in-house development on it (hence the 5+ year development from when it was announced).
I was super lucky to preorder Xenoblade Chronicles 3 special edition in the UK. Was a nightmare experience (in every country it seems!) but hoping it’ll arrive this coming Friday 21/10. Really looking forward to it!
Same here! I was extremely lucky to pre-order it as I just happened to be using my PC at the exact same time that they announced the pre-orders were going live, I don't think I've ever moved that fast when I saw the notification pop up lol. The worst part is when my order was just about to go through when I was prompted by Barclays to verify the transaction, I almost screamed *"JUST ACCEPT THE PAYMENT!"* at the monitor when that came up! Thankfully, my phone was right next to me so I could put in the code quickly.
Thumbs up for Madox-01! One i also enjoyed and liked back in the day, still have my VHS copies of it in my Anime collection. Wish i also had the bluray of it, so many great and wonderful Anime that i wish got that treatment. Great stuff!
That's what I didn't like when I first saw traditional animation on blu-ray was seeing all the imperfections. I remember watching Beauty and the Beast in 1080p years ago and could see all the pencil lines and my instant reaction was that I'd rather be watching the DVD. It IS interesting to see those things though, but takes away from the immersion I'd get without it.
I'm currently playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (98 hours playtime so far) and I was extremely lucky to be able to pre-order the special edition for it in the UK. To say that it was an absolute nightmare to buy would be the understatement of the year! If I wasn't on my computer right at the exact same time that Nintendo made the pre-orders go live, I would have missed out for sure, that's how big the demand was.You had about 2 - 3 minutes to be able to place an order before the store was brought down by the sheer volume of traffic.
Recently grabbed Lost Odyssey for 360 after watching one of your older RPG ep. It's backwards compatible for Series X, so that's a plus. Also found Draconus : Cult of the Wyrm for Dreamcast in the wild and never played Skyrim so I grabbed that for PS3 a couple bucks 🤙

Rad Rodgers on the switch today, can't go wrong for £6.99 lol! Love that straight roads book, I'll have to get that for sure! Right up my street with side scrolling beat em ups!
They had an entire shelf section of strategy guides at one of the 3 Value Village stores in my home town for $2.99 a piece and the lady that worked there said that they still counted for the buy 4 get 1 free deal but I didn't have time to go through them sadly because there was easily 700 different strategy guides.
Also got the xenoblade special edition. I recently picked up Turrican collection, Severed Steel, Trails from Zero special edition, Fobia for PS5, and Valkyrie Elysium. Also got the Psychonauts 2 physical edition.
I love that Johnny is still at it after all these years 👍👍👍

Really looking forward to seeing the DQ episode with Kim!
Trails from Zero, Valkyrie Elysium, Sword of Mana for GBA, and Jeanne d’ Arc for the PSP. Plenty more to come this Fall and Winter.
Jeanne D'Arc on PSP is a fantastic game
I finally picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Having a blast with it. That special edition is really nice.
