The biggest advantage of wheel woolies over other brushes is that they don’t splatter all over your hands and face, and of course the amount of solution they carry
Hi Specky, just caught your review online. As the creator of wheel woolies I want to thank you for, not only your review of our product but, all of the reviews you do online. By you sharing your knowledge and experience you better the entire industry. Well done.
I'm a fan of Built Hamber's Surfex HD to clean the wheels at 7%. It's PH neutral so can be used on paint and won't damage the layer of protection. I can't find the need for a dedicated shampoo for wheels. Sonax BSD works awesome on wheels too and it gets applied after every wash in my case, keeps cleaning so much effortless!
I've used Surfex for so many things including wheels. The main reason I like wheel shampoo is lubrication for the brushes or woolies. And if the wheels are particularly bad I can use a dedicated wheel cleaner first and add the shampoo to it. I use spray and rinse products for wheel protection, much easier.
I’m a huge fan of Bilt Hamber so the auto wheels is a must 👏🏻👏🏻 I use EZ wheel brushes but the woolies, they look loads better and softer.. very good and informative video my friend keep them coming 👏🏻👏🏻👍
good review mate. same price as CYC have the whole kit for £48 plus delivery. i like my EZ mini brush plus my Tuf shine tyre brush, but these look really good value and since my Outback has partial two-tone wheel colours (black gloss), might be a good investment. 👍
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Especially the balanced and realistic angle - sometimes detailing channels take things too far, some of us just want to keep our cars looking good, but not concours. I have only one gripe with this episode: Please wear nitrile gloves and some protective goggles when you work with aggressive chemicals :-)
love my Wheel Woolies I've had them for years but sadle my large woolly will not fit my new wheels now, but you never know what car you going have next. make sure you rinse and dry them out good after, other wise the chemicals could rot them.
i went and got the EZ detail aka speedmaster large brush and the loo brush for the arches, and they are probably the best brushes I've found to do my wheels with. i had been sleeping on them for a long while, but finally took the plunge. i had been using the halfords Wheel brush (chenille MF noodles on a stick), but wasn't really happy with the fact I could never get behind the calliper. other than that £6 for a barrel brush that did the job was pretty cool. I always use hot/warm water with a dedicated wheel shampoo (got a good deal on Autoglanz hoops last year), and the bristles always spring back to life I would agree that the WW could be work spending on IF you made a poor decision on getting those butter soft gloss black rims :) I would say that these WW brushes may need that extra looking after over the EZ brushes, over how long they actually last for.
I've heard from other commenters that they last a good long time as long as you rinse them thoroughly. I totally agree, they're more luxury brushes than regular wash. 👍
@@SpeckyMcSporran Just to say that I have found an alternative. Meguiar's Supreme Microfibre Wheel Brush. As far as I can tell they don't have a small, but look similar enough for me to have a look at them for the softer, more delicate wheel finishes. i don't think they are as plush as the woolies, but might be worth a look (for me at least, as Halfords have them 20% off right now) :)
1.... About time you did this video 2.... Im wondering if i could get away with the small and medium sized ones. The EZ brush is great on build up grime but these may help on the more pampered cars here
1. You sound like Natalie. 2. Yes, the EZ brush is good for hammering away at dirt but are more likely to scratch. The Woolies are much more plush and soft.
@@SpeckyMcSporran no worries mate. Would you consider doing a comparison video, time allowing, for the Autoglym Hi Tech wheel brush and the Atlasta brush?
Great video mate 👍 Have been thinking about these but the different kits they have is very confusing!! All i can find is the length if the handles are different and maybe the width of the brush head? They do look good and if you splash the cash on a wax at £40 then why not the wheels? Keep up the good work mate and please stay safe🌈
Thanks Philip! You're right, if you buy luxury chemicals/waxes etc then why not brushes? The set I bought is a fairly standard set but some retailers sell them individually so you can get what you want/need. 👊
Hi Specky, great review on these wheel woolies, they do the job but pricey, they are better than EZ brushes for holding water, will have to look round for them.
Great vid specky. I’ve been using the EZ for a while now but have often considered swapping. Why wheels would be fine with the large woolie but maybe the medium is the best all round purchase
Thanks mate, I think some sellers offer them in singles so you might not have to buy the whole set. Other commenters have told me they last ages too so it's a decent investment. 👍
I bought some genuine wheel woolies last year and I found that the big one is just too big to fit between the wheel and the brake disc on all of the cars that I’ve tried it on. Disappointed because they were so expensive.
I've been looking at these, and the EZ ones, recently... Still in 2 minds whether to splash the cash on them but I just don't think my current (10 year old, not-looked-after-by-previous-owner) wheels are worth it... Maybe I'll save for a refurb and factor in the cost of decent brushes when the time comes. I cannot, however, comment on another great video of yours without a comedy moment... So... I was watching at a low volume at home and had captions on - ordinarily this would be fine, but today it it kept saying 'wheel willys'... I won't tell you how far the coffee sprayed when you started talking about the bigger one going in farther 🙈🙈 Keep up the good work 👊🏼
Good question, old oily waxes possibly did but modern waxes leave a slick surface on the paint. There are still a few products that leave a less slick surface so try to use the slickest if you're worried about dirt sticking to the paint.
You missed the most important feature of wheel whoolies specky which is durability. Might be expensive initially but my set is at least 4 years old, probably older & still going strong. Those cheap nylon bristle brushes in my experience don't last longer than a year. They lose their shape quickly if you intend to use them in tight areas & most importantly, they are far too aggressive & scratch, especially after a few months when they begin to 'bunch' up. Especially bad on gloss black alloys. Wouldn't be without my wheel whoolies. Couple them up with a vikan soft face brush, a detailing brush & a £2.50 flat noodle brush from home bargains & you can clean any alloy design safely & thoroughly.
I couldn't really content on durability as this was the only time I've used them but comments from existing users like yourself will help people who are interested. 👍
Great review but its a no from me. Alan at AMD talked me out of them and into the proper EZ set a couple of years ago and never looked back. Just find them better and easier to use.
Hey I totally get it, everyone has their preference. I have some knock off EZ brushes which are good for getting into tight spaces but I do believe the woolies do a better job at cleaning, especially when used with a wheel shampoo. I might make a video comparing the two in the future.
@@SpeckyMcSporran Horses for courses really, to be honest, I like to look like I've been cleaning the vans, there is something comforting about wheel cleaner in the eye... have you ever tried the Nerta range of chemicals? managed to get all my products down to just 4. liking the channel too, totally fed up with supercars being washed at a million quid a time and nice to see the daily getting some TLC.
Thanks Roy, I haven't heard or Neeta but I'll have a quick Google. It's nice to get your chemicals down to just a few if they're multi-use. No use to me though, I love trying new products, it's an expensive hobby 😂

That's a really good point, wish I'd thought of that for the video! I splattered my hoody with brake dirt which flicked off the bristle brush 😭
Specky McSporran I used to hate it before I bought woolies

Definitely mate, they really are quality and I'm told they last ages. Love my little tuff shine brush for tyres, way better than the £1 pot brush 😂
Great, detailed and balanced review as always. A pleasure to watch.

Lovely Jubbly Mr McSporran, interesting to see how the fake EZ one is so inferior to the genuine one.
I'd like to try them side-by-side but I don't own an original EZ brush.
Cool review as usual. I've stopped using the knock-off exactly for this reason (water escaping in no time). Will need to get some proper ones :)
Thanks Zsolt, they're not for everyone but I think they're worth it 👍

Haha that's brilliant! Love that!
I think you're right, I wouldn't bother with them for my rubbish little old wheels but I would for a nice set 👍
How long have you been using the wheel woolies ?
I only received them a few days before filming.
Does waxing a car make dust stick to it ?
