EDIT: Pls don't take this series too seriously. This isn't actual criticism, I'm not trying to diss the devs or anything, it's all just for fun and laughs, so please don't get it confused.
Thanks for 2000 subs by the way !!!!!
You deserve it, these videos are great!
would you say... thx deeply? :^)
"This isn't actual criticism, I'm not trying to diss the devs or anything"
Title: "Shoddy SNES Emulators"
Pick one.
@Clownacy you can say a dev's work is shoddy and it not be a dis on them personally, it's just calling out shoddy work.
These emulators really tell the story of people trying to figure out how to reverse engineer the SNES's proprietary graphics and sound hardware. It's kind of funny how most of them either get the graphics _or_ sound correct, but never both at once...
When you were trying to do something like this on a slow ass single core CPU with no dedicated graphics card, sacrifices had to be made lol
What's the year these emu's where made? Before the pentium series?
@@ElementalAerthese were very much made during the Pentium years
The SNES was literally the first system in getting emulated, around 1994, if we don't count an attempt in Japan for the Famicom with FM Towns in 1990 or the Commodore 64 in that same year
@@Whateverfloatsurboat2 Bruh ZSNES managed it and it's the oldest one around. It's so old it was built TO RUN IN DOS. So don't give me bare minimum BS.
12:20 When the buggy emulator accidentally creates an epic remix of your favorite intro theme...
YESSSSSSSSS
i like to imagine some kid in the late 90s to be bragging to his friends about how "my personal computer can play mario games!" just for them to come over and see this
And be amazed every time
"Pass me the aux cord."
_"Just don't play garbage."_
8:01
bro the beginning of it sounds like mice rapping 😭
gleeby deeby alien music
What do you got against Shirley Manson?
Ah yes, human music
Alien invasion ahh beat 😭
Videos like these make me appreciate how far emulation has come
I grew up when Zsnes was still in development. Every version was a new celebration. I still remember when the FX Chip was first emulated, and I could finally play Star Fox and Yoshi's Island instead of getting a black screen. We take so much of emulation for granted.
Close enough, welcome back Vinny
plinny binesause
Real 😭
It's like 2014 Vinny or Joel.
The constant use of shoddy emulators is making him morph into Vinny
Vinny lost brother named John Vinesauce
now we need shoddy N64 emulators
All of them
Corn I guess
So just n64 emulators
first version of ultrahle
@@Vitorio582project 64 is pretty good and so is mugen.
12:05 sounds like something you would hear in a siivagunner rip
for some reason the tone of the instruments makes it sound like a berguntruckung rip
Sounds epic
this guy's like 5 seconds away from being in a creepypasta lol
You know the awful sound in some of these emulators really makes me appreciate how much work went into making these games not sound like ass when played normally
Reminds me a lot of old Vargskelethor Joel, keep it up!
Im sad joel doesnt like kamen rider @B00GMAN_08
it's funny because alot of older snes emulators tend to all have sprite layering and or audio issues, as even all the ones that were made for the DS or DSi have that same issues as the ones present in your video, earthbound seemingly get's it the worst as the battle backgrounds just explode
edit: nevermind JESUS CHRIST F-ZERO😭
yo, I have the same pfp as yours on my jellyfin server haha
Yeah that is god awful lmao
I mainly remember when SNES emulators couldn't apply translucency to foreground layers, so if you entered water or fog, you just couldn't see anything. I even recall that being part of an FAQ on a MegaMan fan site: "Why can't I see in the water?" "Buy the game."
Earthbound's battle backgrounds use a lot of complex effects, some involving weird scanline stuff. No wonder those old emulators on weak hardware would struggle with it.
@@BagOfMagicFoodOf course someone gave such a braindead response. "I have x issue in this game. Any help?" "bUy ThE gAmE"
thank for you actually making a part 2, my emulator autism thanks you.
WE TWINNING 🤝🤝🤝

3:20 you on your 13th cup of coffee at 4am
Just as good as the previous NES emulator video, if not better, hope you keep doing these with more console and even handheld emulators. It's been a long time now, but I vaguely recall GBA and DS having some really crusty emulation early on
iirc desmume emulation is STILL crusty for DS pokemon games bc the dev hates pokemon fans or smth lmao
@@vexilanimous No, it's crusty because desmume is bad. It's still having issues running Megaman ZX too and it shits the bed on the bonus DS case 5 of Phoenix Wright 1. You want either No$GBA or MelonDSDS (yes, DSDS, it's a fork from MelonDS's core for BizHawk and RetroArch).
@@neoqwerty bro if i didnt know what DS emulators were good i wouldnt have commented in the first place 😭
while ur not wrong and desmume is a resource-hogging nightmare, the dev literally has well documented beef with pokemon as a general concept for whatever reason. get ur condescending ass outta here
3:21
feels like some sort of ‘cursed’ ROM for a creepypasta
12:05 ngl both sound fire
I have many happy memories of trying to play games on early versions of SNES9X and ZSNES and encountering absurd graphical oddities, like certain shades of blue being rendered transparent. Also some of them had problems with audio, such as playing some games' bass tones 1) way too loud 2) way too high in pitch.
F-Zero accurately representing how it sounds inside the cockpit was an innovative feature
putting the cock in cockpit with penis music.
That intro was perfect. My TV speakers waking from no audio go into this super low bitrate mode until they finally catch up. Made it even more crunchy than it already was.
This stuff would be great for analogue horror. Half the creepy glitches are already done for you, no editing, animation, or rom hacking required. We even have some "transitions into mundane gameplay" to lure the viewer into a false sense of security and to maintain the suspension of disbelief.
6:30 is a perfect example.
For the Threequel, you should do Shoddy Genesis Emulators
I think joel had a video similar to this one, only he was messing with an version of ZSNES that had comically broken audio. Cool to see all of these old emulators archived. Great Vid!
For the first clips with the Champi emulator, you were loading the SMW and SMRPG Save RAM files, not the roms.
first one was probably described really badly in a creepypasta from 2008 about a haunted super mario world cart. prophecies are real if you believe hard enough
BABE WAKE UP, THE NEW SHODDY EMULATORS VIDEO DROPPED
Earthbound sounded pretty cool beyond it skipping audio. That deeper version of the music is sick
0:30 that was a savefile, not a rom
4:44 this makes it look like this is some kind of analog horror and they got murdered by the plant thing
It's not called Demonic Petunia for no reason
13:40 funny trumpets *laughs*
8:51 The music reminds me of"It's just a burning memory" and the dementia.
11:05 I love this beat
11:30 I love the music, is yankee and wrong at the start but gets better and better.
11:38 OH YESSSSS I NEED THIS BEAT
11:46 Cool music
1:45 ah yes "BEEP BEEP BEEP", my FAVORITE GAME.
7:01 emulator accidentally made a cover of aphex twin - cliffs
goated namesnipe
its literally fucking similar, how
I can't stop taking these pills!
Damn it!
Hilarious that you were using emulators from the 1990s. Funny thing is, SNES9X is still in use today!
1:35 sure does, I just oiled it
Leafrake please infect my Linux machine tank you

12:20 almost sounds like a hotline miami song for a few seconds
I was thinking it sounds more like 90's hip-hop
And people say VBA is a disaster. At least it actually runs the games of its system and I have only experienced a singlar noticable bug with it.
Same. I use it for all gba games.
what’s wrong with vba?
9:35 VHS Hi-Fi on damaged tapes be like:
underrated knowledge
the emulator showcased from 6:22 seems like some sort of terrible creepypasta
Hyper realistic shiny enemies
So any Sonic.exe game
For a sec I thought I was watching a Vincesauce Vinny corruptions video
i’m loving this series already, i bet checking out early 3d console emulators is gonna be a ball haha
12:05 that was actually great tho
NOT THE ANTI PIRACY SCREEN LMFAOOOO
Fun fact: NLKSnes and Esnes were merged into NLKE and ZSNES has revolutized the SNES emulation in 1997.
0:48 Whoa! That's not an SNES ROM file!
12:05 the music was actually kind of cool, ngl
Long-awaited sequel has just dropped, great job!
vinny and joel fusion
Vargsauce jinny
“Mario’s flatlining! We’re losing him!” managed to get me so goddamn hard
7:31 this sounds like when you put two phones next to each other while theyre calling each other, and they keep echoing the same sound over and over
Why "DK Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest" & "Super Mario All-Stars" segments feels like a videopasta
man i cant wait for the video "Shoddy Nintendo Gas Leak U + Deluxe Premium Ultra Director's Cut Emulators" in 20712
1:46 Ah yes that would be the beeps of "The system is hung the fuck up so *stop fucking clicking*"
probably worth noting that dosbox is the worst possible choice to emulate dos for emulators. it's very inaccurate and takes too much power to run at normal speed most of the time. but also pcem/86box can be a pain in the dick to set up soooo...
and vmware might also not be great for various reasons... also solved by the pain in the dick option
hm, secret hidden reply...
ZSNES really came pretty far by the time they made their final release, which is my go to snes emulator to this day, although I don't really mess around with emulation like I used to.
FF6 would've been funny to try. The wind sound effect, also in Chrono Trigger in various places sounds soooo freaking weird on old emulators. I remember a version of Snes9X I was using with my brother in like 2002, 2003, and the wind still sounded like an unknown species of animal slowly dying even then. Snes9X sounded horrible until 1.43 improved that a lot, but it's still crusty
7:30 really does sound like an OPN song
Wait is that an actual anti-piracy screen? 2:24
Yeah, they just detected if the gamd had access to too much sram and just softlocks
10:38 Mario is missing his medicine
you were dragging in the sram save files in the beginning idk if anyone told you
Other people are already echoing this but this is taking me back to old school Vinesauce Vinny and Joel. We're almost reaching corruption territory. ...Almost.
I kinda wanna hear the whole of that F7 track from the last clip
Honestly, I can imagine a genius idea to make a horror romhack that takes advantage of the poor emulation, making things more eerie and utilizing the bugginess in its favour
I once tried a SNES emulator on a very old and shoddy phone that my dad used to own. The phone only supported a single touch input so I couldn't use more than one finger at a time. When I ran Super Mario World on it, sometimes it works but when I reset the emulator, the ROM would end up starting at the Nintendo logo but the entire screen is filled with blue O's instead and looped a bit of a coin sound for some reason.
6:49 igor theme
Ryu. Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded bride?
Ryu: 9:09
If I had to guess, the reason the second emulator (ESNES) was running too fast is because you were running it through DOSBox and had your CPU cycles set too high
Once again, super-glad you didn't include later releases of _ZSNES._ That's actually how I played old import games back in the day - usually without transparency. It's good!
Also, 09:24 - Now, _this_ is the *real* _F-ZERO_ creepypasta. Holy crap.
everybody gangsta till mario rpg starts speaking to you in morse code
3:20 this feels the the music and the sfxs are being so literal drunk on it
I managed to find a Windows release of SNem and the cool thing about it is that if I want to use the start button I have to crank down the volume.
I have a keyboard with multimedia functions and some of the multimedia functions include dedicated volume buttons.
this feels like old vinesauce
ah yes, so many of my favorite chiptune sounds from the "symphony of sharts" collection
Homemade creepypastas.
6:41 this is some creepypasta like shit
finally, the sequel i've been waiting for
Shoddy N64 emulators when
shoddy genesis emulators would be good too, esp since sound emulation has basically always been off/tricky (even on official stuff, looking at you, atgames)
do shoddy ds emulators,
Scribblenauts
Pocoyo Racing
Pokemon B&W
and Mario Party DS.
Holy crap there's more!! Awesome.
The RGB/BGR/whatever options controlled how the emulator handled colors. So you made it interpret red, green and blue hues as blue, green and red values instead. I'm not sure what the 555/565 is, it seems to be a bits-per-pixel part.
3:18
oh my god that sounds demonic
if i heard it sound like that when i booted up super mario i would be scared thinking it was posessed
Seeing the earthbound intro without the border is weird 💀
this is how zsnes ran on my computer back in the day
This guy really is Vinny, Joel, and a little bit of danooct1 mixed together.
13:36 I was not prepared for the drop.
6:38 Super Mario World analog horror
It seems most of these emulators have a problem with tick speed
Need a full version of 12:20
It's a bad time to be a Super Famicom fan. Thank goodness that I'm a Mega Drive fan.
6:38 game just really went coronation day mode on the vanilla rom
Look at that! These Emulators come with built-in corruptions!
11:55 i'm fucking crying bro that version of zsnes on dos can't even render mode 7 properly
I love this series so much
12:44 this one sounds like it is running in MIDI
please make this a series 🙏
Love your cave story background man
Some of the glitches in this sounded like they'd be part of a creepypasta.
Also, is that Windows XP?
Also also, I really like the Cave Story desktop background!
12:05 some one needs to rip this
the editing reminds me of 2014 vargskelethor videos and i don’t know why
Based Cave Story Wallpaper
