    Great review. BTW, the $87k price tag for the 200 is slightly less than the 1998 100 Series Landcruiser once you factor in inflation. For instance, my 1998 LX470 (100 Series) stickered for $56,790 in 1998 dollars. If you then adjust for inflation, is the equivalent of $90,526.31 in 2020 dollars. So, the LandCruiser has never actually increased in price. If anything, you get more bang for the buck than my 1998 has. This is the part that most people miss when they freak out about the $90k price tag. It's high, yes. But, it's right on point with all previous generations such as the 100, 80 and even 60 Series when adjusted for inflation. Anyway, hope that helps. As for the 100 Series sleeping arrangement you mentioned, build a simple drawer system or platform system in the rear, fold the second row flat and you have a queen sized sleeping area with the hatch closed. My girlfriend and I spent many camping trips like that and thoroughly enjoyed it. We'd inflate a queen size air mattress and stow all our gear below the platform. Just an idea.

    If only everyone looked at LC's this way lol. I always struggle with explaining this stuff to outsiders.... Toyota FTW!

      @@ChrisONeillUSA I owned a '97 series 80,underpowered six cylinder and was afraid to even check the mpg's on it.It could not have been more than 9 or 10.The truck would not go by a filling station without dropping in for a long drink.

      Curious how it is on long drives? I need to drive on the highways 2.5 hours twice a week and need a car that makes the trip better. Are the seats good for long trips, is the cabin pretty quiet? I have an x5 now but its getting old and worry about its reliability so this would be a lot better.

    Great review! I was looking at used 100 series like yours and the early 200s for my first car. The MPG was just not ideal for living in a near city with high gas prices so I got a 4Runner instead. 2016+ Land Cruiser is still a dream!

    You didn't mention that most owners keep them for at least 10 years. My Land Cruiser Prado95 was owned for 15 years by the previous owner.

    i love Toyota land cruiser from 1990s to now. i think most recent ones have a full-time 4wd system. love 3rd row seats just the way they are.

    This is my dream car. I know some rich suburbanites like to buy a new car every couple of years but i tend to buy cars and stick with them. This is the best car for that for reliability reasons but it also has the capability and practicality. Aside from MPG its very practical. I think i would take that 3rd row out and just leave it out though. Obviously its an eyesore that eats up cargo space, but its also not really usable and unless you have a bunch of kids its unneeded.

    Nice review. You hit on some good points. I have a 2019 LC200 and the storage is a bit disappointing, but I love my cool box. And yes it will keep your drinks and food as cold as you want!

      Curious about your experiences with the cool box - can it take a drink from 'room temperature' down to 'refrigerated'? Not that you would, but would you be comfortable keeping perishables in there?

      Chris O'Neill I keep four or five water bottles in mine and yes it will take them from room temperature to ice cold. We also keep sandwiches and such if we are on a road trip. It does take away some storage space, but I love it.

    I've always loved the Land Cruiser, but the MTS wasn't what I expected in my testing. In Mud and Sand mode it still aggressively applies the brakes to the spinning wheels which really hampers it's ability to drive on loose terrain. My off-road video of it won't be up for another 2 weeks but the MTS in the RAV4 actually did what it claimed, they should make some changes to the 200 to make it more like the RAV4. It's a great vehicle for countries with much worse roads than we have here. It's not really an off-roader but more of an overlander. It's super heavy and over built, which reduces it's off-road capabilities significantly. For recreational off-roading a Jeep (Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Gladiator, even the Cherokee Trailhawk), ZR2, or Raptor are all better. The Land Cruiser is what you buy when it's going to be your last vehicle and you have 30 years of driving left. It's what you buy when you're traveling rough roads for years on end. For most Americans it's overbuilt and underutilized. It's not so much a glamorous thing, it's a purpose built machine. I hope the rumors are false about it's demise in 2022 and Toyota keeps selling this amazing beast in the US. Great review!

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Matt! I lack the patience for the kind of off-road testing you do, so I'm glad you do it, and I'm always eager to see what you find. You make a good point about what the LC really is - funny how here in 2020, we now differentiate 'off-roader' from 'overlander'. I wish Toyota would change something, anything about the 200, but I fear this is pretty much it. I'll be really frustrated if they ditch the Land Cruiser in the US, and I think it'll be a huge slap in the face to their enthusiasts in this market. I bet there are heated meetings about it internally. Unfortunately, if they were to redesign it how most people want, I think they'd wind up with something too similar to the 4Runner, in which case they'd rather just sell us a $60,000 2022 4Runner, which would undoubtedly come with a much nicer profit margin for Toyota. There's gotta be a way, but the existence of the 4Runner is the biggest issue.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures 4 роки тому +1

      @@ChrisONeillUSA I should have said that while the MTS on the RAV4 seemed better tuned, the Land Cruiser would still beat the RAV4 in any off-road situation as long as the cruiser will fit on the trail. I'm curious to see what they do, there have been rumors of a LC300 coming. I feel like the Cruiser is bigger enough that it doesn't directly compete with the 4Runner, but that may not be true.
