    I think people don’t know that there’s a difference between being a good streamer and a good gamer. If you are a good gamer, that means you can play games, but if you are a good streamer, you can promote your content, your streams must be enjoyable just like the gameplay, like there’s a reason if you can’t gain more views.

      Also being bad doesn't mean you can't get good... Toast isn't there to be a teacher to streamers. Although some might get good eventually, some can't for some reason.
      And those with potential are basically the ones that can get good, fast. A potential to blow up usually.

      these small streamers don't understand ... like being a streamer is more than just being good at the game even I don't think that otv & friends are really pro gamers or even they knew that they're pro but pretend they don't because content creation is their main priority. Look at Sykkuno, he has potential but he's not serious and trolling all the time because he knew, at the end of the day contents come first.

Now, these small streamers who havent even been streaming for that long are pressed because the guy was blunt with his honest take. Also, if you've been streaming for a long while but havent reached that 100 viewer mark, obviously something needs to change and be improved upon. But if you glorify your brand as a "small streamer" and expect this to be your source of income, then you are *A BAD STREAMER* (Not a bad person, just bad at your job). he's only speaking facts. Now replace the whole "knowing someone" with "being a girl" and you get what every female streamer that's accused of being succesful only for being female has been saying for years. The people getting mad that others are succeeding are almost exclusevely young men in their late teens up to mid 20's that are getting almost no views and blame it on others "it's not my fault i'm not succeeding it's cause those girls or those friends from someone or this good looking dude are stealing my views" instead of noticing:
    wait this streamer learnt how to use : photoshop to make their own overlays, emotes, etc they've learnt how to use tiktok and other social medias to bring in people, they've learnt to interact with chat.
    it's a guarantee that when i see someone say this kind of stuff they are one or more of those things:
    -they haven't put work into their overlay or emotes or bio
    - they're not trying to be untertaining
    - they're not researching how to improve themselves
    - they sit there not talking because no one is chatting
    - they think you can still get views by simply being found on twitch (this was true 6/7 years ago but not anymore)

    2) They don’t have connections with other streamers.

    and yes sometimes it really is unfair, sometimes talented people just never make it because they lack the opportunities, connections, timing, and resources. it's hard to make it as a streamer nowadays, and if you've tried everything and it didn't work out, maybe you should just accept it and move on. it's impossible to demand a push from bigger streamers cause it's not their job to sort through thousands of people to see who has potential and is genuine and deserves it.

    Wholeheartedly agree. The mindset of "being small" as a reason for you to gain special treatment is not the way to grow bigger. Regardless of whether you have the potential or not, if you aren't seeing growth in your life that's not because you haven't been given a chance from someone higher up on the ladder, it's because there is something that can be improved on. This is literally Toast's way of saying "don't limit yourself to being a small streamer, be more." In content creating specifically, there is so much more work done behind the scenes (trends, research, connections, community, interactions, etc.) that getting acknowledged by a bigger creator is irrelevant unless you can demonstrate why you were and should be acknowledged. Be inspired and put in the work! If you're doing it right then your day will come.

    I get that small streamers can be small for a reason, and I get everything he’s saying, but the fact that he said small streamers are bad streamers is just such a cocky thing to say. Every streamer who got famous mostly got famous because of luck, very little of it was skill. There are studies of how the most skilled people will almost never get chosen because they won’t get lucky enough. I do get what he’s trying to say, but I feel like he could’ve phrased it better. He always talks about his hard work, but even with how good his content is, the algorithm made it 99% luck, maybe more. FYI, I don’t even stream or make youtube videos, so I’m not biased.

    So pretty much one or more of 3 things are necessary for stream success:
    1. Be good. Be stupidly good, like, one of the best, or better. It’s hard, but simple. The more talented you are, the more interested people get.
    2. Be popular. Do something that gains recognition. Usually, it’s something no one else does. Not just niche, but interesting and fresh. Don’t just fallow fads either. Do something truly original, or creative like drawing or music.
    3. Be funny. Be an entertainer. You can do whatever you want, whether it’s gaming, or just chatting with your audience, and if you’re hilarious, people will want to tune in. Especially if you have an attitude and confidence.
    Consider yourself lucky if you reach more than 10 views, and if you reach between 100-200, you can consider collaborating with other streamers. Just keep in mind, you should absolutely start with other streamers like yourself, at your viewer level, and feel free to speak well about other streamers. Twitch publicity is something of a two-way street. If you say something good about someone, the attention you attract to those people are bound to return two-fold back to you.
    Just know the essential component to collaborating is knowing the other streamer, having good synergy, and having a good time.
    And stream what YOU want. Don’t let people call you out for having a dead stream if it’s Minecraft instead of League of Legends. You don’t have to have a lot of viewers to have a good stream. Just having fun is enough every now and again.

    • @stardustvolcano
      @stardustvolcano 3 роки тому

      I was about to write a similar comment on what you can do! I had like to add 1 more point to your comment, something what Toast said but didn't elaborate.
      4- Advertise about yourself on other platforms too other than Twitch. Make a youtube channel if you can and upload content. If you aren't really good with editing and stuff, you might wanna learn it. If you aren't ready to actually do youtube for whatever reason, I feel a welcome video can it be all too. Make accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Reddit. Post short gameplays, interact with other favourite content creators(can be lucky in the long run) and interact with people around the same viewership as you. You might wanna scroll down Valkyrae's feed to get an idea. As Toast mentioned in the video, use Reddit for experimenting stuff. And twitter could be asking people to hop on to your stream, post your schedule and achievements on there.
      If you're really serious about the Twitch game, you might wanna see Poki's video about Tips/Tricks to grow your following, its a 43 minute video I guess. Also don't expect any monetary support in the 1st year of your streaming journey. Thank you!

    • @Sushine
      @Sushine 3 роки тому

      He said it as a generalization, but then clarified that it isnt the case 100% of the time. I agree that plenty of small streamers never blow up, hell i've known a bunch, but he is right that a lot of small streamers just stream and expect growth. Twitch is nowhere near like it was back in 2011, where you could stream and grow. Like Toast said, you have to expand your reach to as many platforms as possible. Being a good creator gets you the ticket, but expanding your reach is like getting more tickets, and therefore more chances to have your discovery point. However, once you get that discovery, it is the creators job to either continue what they are doing or adapt their content to grow with them as they grow.

    Basically it takes both skill and opportunity. A bad streamer can't succeed regardless of opportunities given. But it's hard for a great "entertainer" to go mainstream without that initial boost of fame. Toast suffers a little from "winner bias", like many self-made millionaires his reasoning is "Well I made it without help, therefor everyone can".
    And that's of course true to a degree, you can farm them opportunities yourself and be lucky enough to gain that mainstream appeal over time. But then there's streamers like Tina and Sykkuno who without that initial boost would never have made it.
    Is there a timeline where Toast didn't get the initial traction and fizzled out as a streamer or stayed as a 500 viewer Andy? Of course there is. Assuming "I would always make it because I'm built to succeed" doesn't necessarily hold a truth. 🤔

    This is why I like Toast, he’s honest about what he thinks and he doesn’t back down from his beliefs about things when people start giving him crap for it.

    I’d also include small streamers that aren’t quote on quote “bad” that have smaller target audiences such as playing a smaller game. I am a smaller content creator, yet I am the biggest content creator for the game I play.

    Just came across this & I agree. You could still be a small streamer & get an invite. Like Toast could come across a smaller streamer & recognise their humour or talent or whatever, then invite them.

    Bruh I would rather have someone more “successful” than me to criticize and tell me the FACTS rather than a person telling me you’ll do great just keep going when clearly I’m doing something that won’t make my content and fan base bigger

    If some of the small streamers are getting angry, grow up, stream more and play games more. Build you own audience not grabbing from other streamers. Toast can literally do whatever he wants with his game and invite whoever he wants to add to the game. If you are small and he grabs you don't abuse the fact that you were small and now boosted because of it. I agree with his statement before he had to clarify, I'm a small streamer barely stream as it is, but i still get views from the people who follow me and tune in, I don't need to join in a big streamer just to get views.
