I am also a lefty so it took me awhile to figure out how to use chopsticks. Kinda forged my own path. 😁 I also like using old chop sticks as plant markers in the garden. I made knitting needles out of some once. The kids made arrows for bow and arrow fun that was safer than real ones, haha. Doll house furniture. The kids made a bird house once. We made place mats and trivets for outside and then we made a hanging lamp shade for the light on the deck to go with them. We even made little baskets for napkins or cutlery, etc. Oh, pitting cherries, that works great. ☺ I sometimes use those long ones to help me get things from the top cupboards that I can't quite reach. 😅
I have tried knitting needles! It can be tough lol! the bamboo is hard to slide the yarn along! the placemats and trivets sounds so fun! Pitting cherries too! For things on tall shelves I prefer tongs myself hehehe
It’s considered bad manners to use chopsticks with the left hand, even if you are left-handed. I have 3 cousins that are left-handed, and they all use their right hand.
When I was learning to use chopsticks, I found that eating a bowl of popcorn with chopsticks was the best way to get good quickly. Popcorn is lightweight, not slippery, and has lots of little bulges and edges to grab with your chopsticks. No one likes to take 30 seconds between eating a single piece of popcorn and getting the next piece! You get proficient very quickly!
Thanks fun video! If I have something I don't want to cut all they way thru like Hasselback potatoes, I lay chopsticks on the cutting board and use them as a guide to prevent cutting all the way through. I love using chopsticks!
He Herrada, thank you! There are a few recipes we come back to again and again for dry lily flowers (i.e., not that often): Steamed Chicken with Mushrooms (thewoksoflife.com/steamed-chicken-mushrooms-dried-lily-flowers/) Hot and Sour Soup (thewoksoflife.com/hot-sour-soup/) Moo Shu Chicken (thewoksoflife.com/moo-shu-chicken/)
This is awesome!! Now, I won’t ever be self conscious again about how I use my chopsticks again!! Surprisingly, I use them like the First Lady does! This was so fun!!❤❤
I was told a long time ago that the closer one holds their chopsticks to the tip, the longer they'll remained unmarried. (lol) 😁 Other uses for chopsticks have been to keep my hair bun or French twist secured in place (in lieu of bobby pins) and putting to use all the unused chopsticks gathering from takeaway/delivery orders by turning them into a banana rack. 😊
Quite interesting how you all use chopsticks. It is astonishing that Kaitlin has the best skills with regard to using it as utensils for eating food, as far as I can tell and this is me, a Westerner who learned to eat with knife and fork. Where did she learn this skill? Definitely not from her parents. LOL
At the Chinese grocery store they have quite a variety of chopsticks to choose from. Some are decorative and pretty. Some are wooden or acrylic, etc. I am totally clueless which ones I should purchase for eating and cooking. I would ask an employee but they don’t speak English. Any recommendations ❓ Thanks. 🥢
We like the bamboo ones the best!!! the decorative or lacquer ones can be nice for special occasion meals like Lunar New Year, but even then most of the time classic bamboo is best.
You guys have the greatest job EVER!!
hahah we really do! :)
I loved (and laughed about) how you all use different grips! It shows off how many options there are, especially with some practice.
Lovely video with a lot of warm personalities!
Aww thank you! :) :) :) :)

All my questions about chopsticks were answered in this video!
Huzzahh!! Just what we were hoping to do!

I saw Asian gamers using chopsticks to eat their potato crisps. I showed it to my Australian son and he loved the idea. No more salty oily fingers.
popcorn and cheetos and chips with chopsticks is the way!
Great video!

Thank you for the video - and for the humor - I finally know how to use chopsticks
glad it was helpful hehehe!
I love your master classes teaching the basics. Question, how you use the dry lily flowers in chinese cuisine?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this demo lesson!
you're very welcome! :)
Really enjoying your Family's book, Bill..
Cooooollll & Thanks.

Wow that's awesome it's my first day to learn but I have managed to pick something and eat with my chopsticks 😅 thanks a lot guys 🥰😘
I needed this🤣✅
😊😊😊😊
Love the steamer trick!
I feel like bamboo chopsticks have the best grip, but they are porous. Do you ever use other types?
The porous factor doesn't bother us, but if it did the safest is probably stainless steel chopsticks as other less porous options are made of plastic.
7:12 you’re all wrong except for me 😂
I want to know how to cut with Chop sticks! Sometimes restaurant food is too big, dumplings, etc.
I was told a long time ago that the closer one holds their chopsticks to the tip, the longer they'll remained unmarried. (lol) 😁

I'm frustrated, can't get the grip... Help😢

hahahahahahaah, too true, Mark!!!
It does feel pretty good to get compliments on chopstick proficiency from Asians. I have to thank my old boss Chang Baba for teaching me.
No you show us your hand you put the chopstick you should where it goes and then just before the second one you moved it without telling us.
Hands don't work
Blah blah blah
