    This movie always has a special place in my heart. I saw it with my parents in the theater when I was on my town pass from Air Force basic training. Being my first time away from home, and the first time I'd seen my parents after leaving for basic training, it was nice to doing something together like we'd done so many times in the past. On top of that, I'd had a bit of a falling out with my dad prior to leaving for basic, and all that melted away once we got back together again.

      I'm pretty sure that he meant that age where some people are either pressured in to feeling that they are too old to be watching cartoons. Or, they feel that they are too "grown-up" and "mature", and cartoons are for kids. I went through a similar phase from about 14 to 18.

    I'll be honest Jumanji is my favorite movie of all time, in which in made my whole childhood. I remember reading the book, watching and reading Zathura which to me still is the sequel, watching the cartoon on UA-cam which I thought had an interesting plot and amazing animation, also had Tim Curry which made it even better, and Welcome To The Jungle I thought was the best way they could have done a modern day follow up. I remember looking up hidden facts about it but most of them are stuff already known. I will admit the Scarlett Johansson one was a shock, but the rest was stuff that I read a lot. What I would love to see is concept art for the board game. Like what did they originally want it to look like? What was the original story? And what changed in between. Nevertheless I loved this video like usual and can't wait for the next.

    You kind of forgot to mention, that Alan's Dad and Van Pelt are actually played by the same actor, which in my humble opinion ins't mere coincidence. As you've said Williams saw some deeper meaning in this and it's a great metaphor for how he needed his dad to actually be a dad towards him but instead perceived him as rather distant and somewhat intimidating, even scary sometimes. It's so subtle you barely notice if you don't know it. Just genius.

    Glad other people mention Zanthura in the comments... I was waiting the whole episode to see Zanthura get some recognition. Nada. Zip. Zulch. Come on, Minty, gotta have some love for the underdog sequel here that DID happen. The book by Van Allen, Zanthura, was written as sequel to Jumanji the book. The events follow up immediately after the first ends. Perhaps the studio behind the Jumanji flicks will wake up and bring this into the cannon anew at some point and make people go - Oh I remember that!

    I remember the animated series. It was excellent. I was in my mid-40s ( turned 70 one month ago! ) and tried not to miss an episode! How can one out-grow cartoons? I am an avid reader - Science Fiction, horror/supernatural, crime, who-dunnits, history, etc. Cartoons can lead kids to reading novels. I'm disappointed that Tim Curry didn't get a mention in this. He played Trader Slick.

      I say don't I think even back then the reason why this movie was good because you notice something odd about the animals both CGI and Practical. As though they are from a completely different world.

    • @johnw8578
      @johnw8578 6 років тому +2

      The makers made the CGI off on purpose to make them otherworldly.

    • @Katiekooleyes

      Why? The movie still holds up today. And as others have said, it was an artistic choice to have the animals a little "off" too.

    I find it funny that they say the role of Alan parish was offered to Tom Hanks but don't mention his son Colin is the older version of the Nick Jonas character stuck in the game in the remake/sequel that stays in Alan's shelter that he made while trapped there as well..

    Here's two more fun facts:
    1. Another actor considered to play Alan Parrish was Bruce Willis, but he declined because he was busy working on "Die Hard with a Vengeance".
    2. In the "Jumanji" animated series, Alan was voiced by Bill Fagerbakke (the voice of Patrick Star on "Spongebob Squarepants") and Judy was voiced by Debi Derryberry (the voice of Jimmy Neutron and Eden in the "Aladdin" TV series).

  • @yoda908

    A couple things need mentioning. Minty there was a Microsoft Windows game done in 1996 and a big push for the sequel to switch from being a remake was in fact the rock himself who actually went on record saying he refuses to be in the movie unless it gets turned into a sequel because he even felt it would be an insult to the late Robin Williams. In fact the sequel actually places homage by having I believe in a scene with something that says Alan Parish lives here or something like it. However someone had to have remembered the cartoon in the production company because when I saw the trailer for the sequel I literally thought the remake was going to be adapted from the cartoon.

  • @dickward4531

    And yes, I did have the board game when it first came out.
