I'm a fit 72 year old....but still 72! I've watched so may videos on how to create steps on a slope and they are so labor intensive! I think I can do this project on my own! Thanks so much!
67 here and my steps are cut in but I was at a loss of how to proceed. No wood or stakes are in and I can hardly wait! It rained already today and more coming this weekend!
I started to feel defeated when you showed how you were staking them in, knowing how expensive those stakes were going to be, how long it would take to find them, etc. Then I was elated to see you using wood! I have the stones, the slope, lots and lots of trees and a shovel and saw! I just needed these instructions, thank you!
I will ask my broher to do this. I have wanted a littl epath in our woods for ages, and this will be perfect. Safer for my 85 year old bones. Good teaching, good pictures, good project. Good use of leftover bits of building materials. Expert advice on cutting stakes. Thank you so much.
I'm in the process of doing this now. It's pretty easy especially if you have soft ground that isn't too rocky like I do. If you don't have a lot of logs or boards lying around 8 foot landcape timbers cut into 2 foot sections work perfect. For the stakes I used crepe mrtyle limbs I pruned a few months ago. Once they were cut to size they worked great as they're pretty thin but very strong.
This made me subscribed right away! Awesome job! I have been looking for a tutorial for a very long time. I am 42, with diabetes and heart problem and I need to create a stairs in my land so bad. I believe I can do this on my own. Thank you so much!
You can make the stakes - and the logs - last a LOT longer in the dirt by just charring them on a fire, or with a propane torch. Try to use hardwood stakes, even better if you can get cedar, yew, and other rot-resistant wood. Nice video, very simple method that works well.
Looking to do something like this on a more suburban slope (walkout basement with a steep side yard) & would be using cut lumber vs found logs - do you need to use something chunky like a 4x4/log at the front, or would a board (2x6) work? I need a bit more rise, and think the thinner board may help with the 'place your foot on the dirt' directive. Any feedback?
AWESOME! I like this idea. Now I MUST find a spot where I can build us some stairs :) GIAG...looks and sounds like you're getting strength back!! YAY :) Loved hearing "Welcome to the Garden" :) ♥♥♥

This is the friendliest tutorial I’ve ever witnessed. 😊
That is so nice, thank you!
@@GiveitaGrow You’re the Bob Ross of DIY 🤩
Not everything has to be expensive & modern. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I LOVE IT!
Exactly! I see lots of DIY stairs that use milled lumber and concrete, but you just need sticks.
FINALLY some steps i can build myself!!
This was so chill. Like Bob Ross but for gardening.
I have watched so many videos looking for how to create a simple walkway. Thanks for taking the time to share. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I love these trails, I hope they work for you too!
Oh my gosh!! Thank You!! Other videos were too labor intensive, heavy materials, I wouldn’t be able to manage on my own.
This I can do!!

Thank you so, so much. This is super easy and you do a terrific job of making it simple and considerate to the landscape and surrounding nature.

omg thanks for posting this!! I think i can do it!!
Amazing! Can’t wait to fix my botched first attempt..thank you very much
It’s nice wen u have no rocks to go around. Ur soil is straight loam no rocks. Super ez.
Tons of rocks here (to stabilize the steeply banked hills around the house.
Nice a FRESH. Quality work Nolan!
The pulling out weeds was a great tip.
I am now motivated! 👐Excellent video.
Will let you know when build one in our new, underfunded neighborhood garden. What is best length and depth of boards?

This was the most helpful video on this subject, out of many. Liked and subscribed…🫡

Great job!
I’m gonna try it!
Is it best to start at the top or the bottom? This is exactly what I’m looking to do. Thank you.
I dont think it matters too much. I start where the path absolutely need to be because the other end may shift around based on terrain.
Thank you
I live in Florida, my slope is on the Sandy side and after rains I have erosion, any suggestions for adding stability to the soil?
Me too. Thanks
What kind of wood are you using for stakes and steps
👍👍
Great video! From West Saint Paul. I want the hat, where did you buy it?
Thanks! I got the hat at a thrift store for 1$. It is starting to fall apart so I have been looking for a new one.
Starts at min 7:00
😻👍🏻🐅🇵🇷
Could put some gravel on the flat surface to help eroding soil
