@@ArsLyricaHouston so true !! I have the chance to live close to Versailles. I been there many times too visiting the garden & the castle. It would be perfect for me if , maybe one day, u perform Rameau with that fabulous ballet inside !!!!
I agree... Just a little problem : in 1650, Versailles was merely a small hunting pavillion surrounded by marshes and haunted by mosquitos and malaria. It was still far from the palace we know today, and there wasn't any garden either. And speaking of Rameau we can see and hear in this splendid performance, he was born in 1683...

@@bernardpoulin5254 Vous avez tout à fait raison. Il avait déjà fallu attendre 1733, alors que Rameau avait 50 ans, pour entendre Hyppolite et Aricie, un autre chef d'oeuvre de l'immense Rameau, un génie qui n'a été reconnu que sur le tard
entrée DES Sauvages... ces Indiens dont les bonnes manières ont sublimé Rameau... et les Indiens sont toujours d'une grande élégance. Les danses réalisées sont les débuts de la danse... classique. Merci à Art Lyrica de Houston... c'est magnifiquement beau!

Magnificent performance; dancers, orchestra, conductor and choreographer are all superb.
try more original versions; that Houston interpretation is funny work but as much alien as Chinese or Peruvian versions could be. Great example of show but missing like 500 hundreds years of real music perfomances in palaces
This was breathtaking. I loved the vigor and life in the music and dancing. Beautifully staged and choreographed! So many performances turn this work into a parody-but this was so elegant and beautiful. I can imagine this danced at the court of Louis XIV. Perhaps he himself danced the role of the Chief of the First Nations.

Unfortunately Louis couldn't have, he had already stopped dancing in the 1670s, and died in 1715, and Rameau didn't write this piece until the 1730s. Louis XV might have enjoyed it though.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! This is a beautiful rendering of Rameau's early opera!
Beautiful performance!!! The first piece is incredibly powerful, seeing people dressed in traditional costumes dance to it is incredible. Plus, it's funny how the same guy who plays the Harpsichord conducts the orchestra. In the beginning I thought he was just jamming to the melody.
We LOVE this! Yes: the orchestra is conducted from the harpsichord. Matthew's head is like a third hand of sorts, keeping everyone together with just a nod!
WTF? "Traditional costumes"?? Do you think that whatever of the First Nations this is supposed to represent dressed as 18th century Europeans? Much less wore three feather dusters on their heads?
@@cerberus6654 The scene represents the encounter between the Spanish colonizers and the "wild" Indians of America; the feathers on the head are supposed to represent the way in which the indigenous people covered themselves.
@@joangarcia-alsina8278 I understand what it represents. But it looks like a mockery. A burlesque. It is disrespectful. It would be like representing British people as all wearing kilts and policemen's helmets and carrying open umbrellas. And which 'wild' Indians are being represented? The hunter-gatherer Caribs and Arawaks of the Antilles? Or the sophisticated and beautifully dressed Aztecs and Mayas? It's all part of the European tradition of demeaning the different nations they encountered - before they destroyed them and stole their lands.
@@aaguero I have sufficient understanding of how North American peoples were represented at the time. The 'authenticity' you think is so precious is offensive. It is European condescension and a cultural burlesque. Just as your condescending tone is offensive. I have First Nations ancestry and it offends me. If you cannot perceive why it is innately offensive, you are demonstrating that you are racist.
Call it "a pantomime" or "a parody" if you will but the Opéra de Paris version of Entrée les Sauvages, purely from an entertainment point of view, is inspired. I once read it criticised by a Native American as, "the closet thing to a real powwow he had experienced", or words to that effect. So it cannot be that bad. Both performances are exceptional in very different ways. Do I detect some references to the Opéra de Paris performance in this by Arts Lyrica? Whatever, a genuinely captivating and enchanting effort, a joy to watch, that would of course be impossible without Rameau's musical genius.
Bravo et merci pour le partage de cette performance... Cette musique et ce ballet/ opéra qui est un hymne à la nature, une invitation au voyage... et une oeuvre musicale qui fait la liaison entre classicisme, baroque et modernité !....
Et quelle incroyable énergie positive... et galante... que l'on reçoit en pleine figure en écoutant cette musique !
Grâce à des artistes comme ceux qui interprètent cette musique et cette danse, la culture est encore vivante malgré la crise sanitaire du Covid19 et les quarantaines qui s'enchaînent !

Voilà une version fort sympathique et le ballet dansé qui accompagne la musique ajoute une touche colorée à l'ensemble et nous fait voyager avec des costumes d'époque, contrairement à certaines prestations qui sont chantées par des chanteurs et des chanteuses en tenues d'aujourd'hui.

@@eberlinpascal2837 Vous êtes inutilement sévère, bien sur qu'ils n'ont pas les moyens de reproduire le faste de Versaille, les gestes et les costumes sont déjà plus proches du Ballet Versaillais que la plupart des représentations des opéras les plus prestigieux.
@@eberlinpascal2837 la danse baroque est un art difficile, et peu de professionnels français ont ce niveau. Quelques couacs dans l’orchestre, certes, mais les tempi sont très cohérents, et surtout exécutés en tenant compte de la chorégraphie. Il faut encourager cette démarche et non pas la dénigrer bêtement. Si vous faites mieux, on veut bien voir.
@@mathildeetienne255 les Indes Galantes ont été représentées à de nombreuses reprises dans différents théâtres Européens ,avec à chaque fois des mises en scènes innovantes ,intelligentes et d'un goût exquis .Avec de orchestres avec des instruments baroques et des musiciens d'exceptions.
Connaissez vous les représentations d'Athys de Lully dans la mise en scène de Jean Marie Villegier et la direction de William Christie .et en Athys un sublime ténor américain à la diction plus française que nature .
Ce n'est donc pas une question de nationalité ,mais de goût et d'intelligence.
Bravo Ars Lyrica pour cette magnifique représentation.

Очень оригинально, хоть и неубедительно: не аутентичные индейцы, зато такие, какими их представляли французы (высших сословий) эпохи барокко. Одним словом, мы здесь наблюдаем не рассказанную историю, а первых ее рассказчиков.

@@paultarquin1790 regardez par exemple une vidéo de la production d'Athys de Lully ,qui date déjà d'une bonne trentaine d'années ,( mise en scène de Jean Marie Villegier ) .Avec le grand William Christie comme direction d'orchestre .Plus généralement ce que fait Christie pour le Baroque est assez exceptionnel .Rien à voir avec cette mascarade bon marché .
@@eberlinpascal2837 l'élitisme est un confort mais pas une fin en soi. Il se doit ponctuellement de rencontrer le "populo". Sans quoi il se décrédibilise et dégénère à proportion. C'est pas mon choix, c'est comme çà.

Le ballet baroque français dans sa splendeur.
Magnifique de subtilité et de beauté, une vision très respectueuse et noble des "sauvages" (terme à replacer.dans son contexte culturel et historique)... Ça change de certaines horreurs (Opéra Bastille, septembre 2019) dont les relents racistes semblent malheureusement avoir échappés à beaucoup.

@@phildougharty7176 Christie's extinguishes the winds (flutes), i find more depth in that one, but did enjoy the whole opera by Christie's who always cast great singers, in the 90's at Garnier.
@@patelpelat4658 Teodor Currentzis of Rameau's Forêts Paisibles is the best one I've heard. Next to it there's Jean Rondeau's harpsichord solo version.

Estas representaciones de las Indias Galantes acompañadas (por mejor decir, protagonizadas) por la música de Rameau me parecen de una belleza excelsa. ¿Por qué? Porque hay una gran anacronía en esta representación: imagínense a un indio del siglo XVII bailando un pas de deux mientras fuma la pipa de la paz, o un español conquistador haciendo giros, evoluciones o un pas de quatre, mientras lucha y fuma seguidamente con los indios. Dudo mucho que en los tiempos de Rameau se hubiese escenificado así, pero estoy seguro de que le hubiera encantado tanto como a nosotros, porque creo que él no podría imaginarse de otra manera esas escenas del texto que recrea. Es como la representación del Arcangel Miguel vestido a la usanza de como los oficiales del ejército francés del siglo XVIII se imaginaban a los oficiales del ejército romano o del ejercito griego de Alejandro Magno. Pues esas estampas tan anacrónicas: un ángel (figura milenaria previa al cristianismo) vestido con armas grecorromanas pero con el estilo de la corte de Luis XV nos acompañaron (y nos siguen acompañando) hasta este siglo XXI a quienes participamos de la cultura católica y su imaginería, ya sea en Francia, España, Italia, Polonia o México. Por desgracia esa anacronía ya no se reproduce más pues no solo se la considera naif, sino boba. Pero si actualizáramos ese gusto tendríamos que aceptar una representación contemporánea del arcángel Gabriel vestido con el uniforme del ejército de los E. U. o ruso o chino o francés de este siglo XXI.
¿Es naif o boba esta representación? No lo creo; anacrónica sí, pero me gusta.
