To think Clark could've easily rip the heads of many, yet he always was careful enough seriously hurt others.
Also the fact that this isnt his prime. Hes still like in his early 20s and he already shows great reflex control when stopping a car flying through a wall, putting in enough force to stop it wiyh one arm while seemingly applying just enough pressure while holding Chloe away from harm. This is what a lot of times gets overlooked about Superman. Not his incredible strenght, but his incredible precision and muscle control. An average person suddenly bestowed with his powers would probably kill people by accident.

They'd be alright. They were laying down and in contact with the floor. So no impact. It's not falling that kills you it's the sudden impact causing ruptured organs and massive internal bleeding or heads splitting open. They might have some bruising and aches and pains but they wouldn't die. Not even close.
Nope. Very dead. At terminal velocity, they're in free-fall relative to everything else. They only stay on the floor of the lift only as it's falling the same speed as they are. Were they strong enough to jump, they'd not land back down till the lift stopped and it'd only slow their descent relative to the lift, they'd still be falling rapidly. This means their internal organs are also in free-fall and these are cushioned by fluids. When the lift stops suddenly, assuming it stays intact, a number of things would have happened. 1st - The lift crashes into Clarks hands and while the passengers skeletons stops, their internal organs protected by softer tissue/muscle would have continued moving forwards, their brains into their skulls, lungs into ribs etc. and this would happen at 120/150 miles per hour depending on weight and wind resistance during the fall. Regardless of the next point, this would have killed them. Unlike in a car crash, where the body is stopped suddenly but generally is allowed momentum as the car continues to move/ roll etc. to spread the energy, this is an instant stop, there's no continued momentum to free up energy. Their brains impact their skulls at 120 mph and become goo. 2nd - Rather unpleasantly for Clark, they were laying on a metal grid. The body parts directly on the metal wouldn't descend any further though they may wind up squashier. The parts with empty space under them would continue to move at 120-150mph which would effectively and rather graphically slice them into lift-grid sized chunks that would rain onto Clark and turn this PG TV program in a more gory flick than a Saw movie. Clark would wind up covered in the blood and guts of his friends as they rained onto him. All in all, a very bad day.
Seems dead to me too, at this velocity internal organs would crush themselves and torn to a point where internal hemmorhage would be uncurable so... +1 Michael and Oli W for the analysis
That's why DC created some bullshit called a bio electric aura, which is what protects Superman as well as objects and people. So technically clarks bio electric aura saved them.

The lift fall. He stopped that lift arguably faster than the springs would have done. From terminal velocity to 0 in 10cm, sure. Even if the top of the lift didn't miraculously buckle and slam into the bottom of the lift, even if the bottom of the lift didn't wrap itself around Clark as he punches a hole clean through it, the brains of the passengers would have slammed into the fronts of their skulls and turned to all sorts of interesting goo. Well done Clark, you didn't help one jot.

Superman is a touch telekinetic. Every thing in the lift as well as the lift stops at the same rate. The flight with Lois in the Superman movie shows that since her body is level with just a hand hold.

@@nathanmount3232 If he had telekentic powers and slowed the whole body at the same time, it'd be fine. The sudden stop problem occurs when the body stops but the internal organs don't. It's the force of the organs bouncing about within the body that causes internal injury. It's a bit of a stretch though. If he had telekentic powers, he wouldn't need to let the lift slam into him, he could just slow the thing down.
@@oliw2793 I don't know where I heard this so it might be wrong, but some versions of Clark Kent Superman apparently have partial telekinesis, explaining why he can lift huge columns of stone without it buckling under its own weight. So I think the reason why he needs to touch it instead of slowing it down from a distance is due to how his powers work.
So from the understanding i got. He can temperary make what he catches essentially as strong as him thus he passed his strength from elevator to the people inside. Keeps them safe and doesnt allow the elevator at that speed to buckle under his catch.

@@DigitallyAdmiringHumanity That was Smallville's version of Brainiac - he was a computer (of Kryptonian origin IIRC), with the capacity to simulate Kryptonian powers in the show. Considering what they would go on to do with Doomsday when he was fully unleashed in season 8 (although IMO that was still better than that abomination from BvS) and then Darkseid (who should only ever be live action attempted on the silver screen in my opinion) in the final season, personally I am very grateful they did not do a comic accurate version - I'll chalk it up to TV budget constraints
