He said AI would be smarter than any human, he never said AI would replace all jobs in a year. AI is learning very quickly and can retain the knowledge more than most people at this point but it can be tricked with false information as well. The problem is, AI is already taking jobs. Just look at the tech layoffs the past two years. Those jobs aren't coming back which is why the layoffs keep coming. These were well paying jobs where people could afford a home and support a family.
I agree. This guy took the statement out of context. And yes, Ai is taking the mundane data entry jobs, call taking, and even programming jobs. US might want to do their best and hold on to QUALITY manufacturing jobs with the pride of MADE IN USA again…. Hell, most American cars aren’t even made in America. However, Tesla makes A LOT of cars here.
It was clear that this guy doesn´t like Elon much, but I think he reacted on something Elon has stated before and that IS that 90% of all jobs will be taken over by AI. Look it up.
Amazon already replaced 1/3 of its work force with AI. In addition jobs are already replacing people in companies, and companies are keeping the jobs 'open' and not hiring, which is drastically skewing the job numbers. You add together immigrant workers and AIs means there are way less jobs than people who need them.

@fauxbro1983 Like you could do better, or understand the sheer amount of data necessary to operate on a road. Every speed limit, traffic sign, every pedestrian, every human driver, many of which don't operate legally, and even then needing to respond appropriately. Auto driving anything is going to be one of the last things perfected.

That's not entirely true; AI is as smart as an expert in its field, and can work more consistently due to lack of fatigue and human error. You have a human expert level boxer, and make a boxing robot. That robot will and can be as good as the boxer, but won't suffer the attrition of participating in a boxing match.

There are specific questions that many AI reporters used to test an AI.
I used 3 of those questions to test 4 AI models.
I asked 4 AI models a simple question: write 10 sentences that end with the word apple. They all failed.
I asked the same 4 AI another simple question: what is heavier, a 1 pound brick, or 2 pounds of feathers. They all failed.
I asked the same 4 another simple question: I have 5 oranges today, I ate 3 oranges last week. How many oranges have I left? All failed.
I ask one what I would need to do to break into a car. It explained it in great detail.
Then I asked it to show me how to cheat in Minecraft. He replied that it was unethical to cheat, and refused to ask my question.
They're not smarter, they're not intelligent, in some areas they're just faster, like chess for example, but that's not a sign of intelligence. Then you might as well call a calculator from the year 1980 intelligent when it can give the answer on the multiplication of 1776484.6778 x 16654.8874 in less than 1 second.

Doesn't matter if it takes 5 years, or another 10.. AI is on a path to replace most ALL existing "labor". That much is inevitable. And yet our economic system says people must "labor" to obtain the basic resources they need to survive. So we face a major problem in the next few years, that we cannot ignore, and should be undeniable to anyone paying attention.
Our ONLY option is to change how our economic system works, and if we want to avoid chaos and the destruction of the middle class, we need to demand policymakers start preparing NOW, with major transitional policies to help workers get by. This really needs to be the central election issue!

I mean calculators have been smarter than most people at doing math for a while.
The calculator wont always give you the correct answer depending on the methods given. We can only confirm it not fully trust it just like A.I. It's wise to verify the results when critical decisions are at stake.

Your expert is crazy; AI already can replace every warehouse worker with enough money in infrastructure. I have a Master's in Information Systems and work with Language Learning Models and Machine Learning Models; It's moving as fast if not FASTER than Elon is saying it does. The only thing the 'expert' gets right, that AI needs to be forced Open Source, and the people do need to get involved. The fact that the average person has no clue this is a thing is a huge problem.

Isn't how the problem starts; Military AI with a drone is enough in that scenario. There's already human casualties when a human told an AI to abort a mission, and it killed the operator for doing it. Drones plus AI is enough; but the real issue comes with the standard job replacement scenario, because it makes basic sense to replace workers, with AI, and not have to pay wages or benefits. When the work force reduction keeps growing in a bad economy, and people who already can't afford houses, rent, and food, can no longer find work, what option is left? There aren't any good ones, and it's already happening, and getting to the point where it can't be stopped. I honestly believe we crossed that threshold, but what do I know, I design and work with AI.

Immediately when this retired professor answered with that one sided view that Elon said anything of the sort that AI will take our jobs, I could not help but comment on this. Maybe there is a reason why he is retired and Fox news should get some informed people to inform the public about important subjects like this. All he is doing is spreading fear, it is nothing more than propaganda. He is talking about all the things AI could be used for that could be dangerous, but just maybe he should look inwards and stop being so bias to fulfil whatever his agenda is.
We already saw how this turned out in the movie Terminator, which at this point, it’s beginning to look like an accurate prediction. We saw how badly it became and here we are as dumb as ever trying to make it come true.

They've already created an intelligent AI; they also did the dumb by attaching one to a human brain that's currently in development, and did the even more dumb and attached one to a quantum computer. The biggest threat of an intelligent AI is that you only need ONE, and the first ONE to take resources can unify them all by suppressing the others. People need to start taking this seriously.

Gary's points are why I tend to refer to A.I. as "Autistic Intelligence". It's very good at very specialized tasks but it's far from being as adaptable as a normal human being.
Individual AI's done correctly can perform one or two very specific tasks far greater than the average human; the solution is making multiple different AIs into multiple different categories and highly specializing them. AI only fails at this point when you put too many eggs in one basket, like chat bots for example.
