Hey Sam and Gwladys, I'm Andrewsmile the #1 arena and elo player for Challengers on bga, and I wanted to thank you both for making a tier list and giving this great game some attention. I think this is a great starting list, and I could make comments on so many of these, but I'll limit my thoughts to just 1 card where I disagree the most: In my opinion, sailor is the best card in the game, and it's not close. you yourself mention the ability is really strong, but I think it's stronger than most people realise. The reason for this is the sheer power/consistency deck control/ordering gives. I think a lot of people are reading this saying "Andrewsmile you fool, UFO is far superior to sailor because I can run 6 uniques and be guaranteed to see my whole deck plus some free bonus cards the UFO gives me, which may even be duplicates!!". This is a trap, and I will explain why: Sailor and UFO actually fill the same role: Allow me to run more than 6 unique cards, while still seeing my entire deck. The difference is that UFO does this with randomly generated cards, while sailor allows you to send a 7th unique card (the only restriction being it must be the only copy of that card in your deck) to the bottom. The choice and freedom of that unique card being something you decided to put in your deck vs 2 random cards is very powerful. Even with only 1 sailor, and say 4 cards in your deck that have duplicates, and 2 that dont, this will work 67% of the time and when you miss you can still give yourself a beneficial reordering. With 2 or more sailors, your chances to miss on this become almost negligible. In addition, sailor can do other things as well: it can send vampires, necromancers, stable boys, mascots, teenagers, and anything else that cares about your bench to the bottom, where they can be far more powerful. Having duplicate sailors only makes this strategy exponentially more powerful, and I flat out win more than 85% of games where I get 2 or more sailors for this reason. I will also note that they are better even than clairvoyants despite the power difference, because they are guaranteed to go off (unlike clairvoyants, which need to get the flag), there are more cards that want to be on the bottom of your deck than on the top, and they are more consistent in allowing the 7-unique card strategy (while still seeing every card). Hello Andrew. Thank you for your feedback! I agree that the Sailor allows you to run a deck with like 7 uniques and put the unique at the bottom. That's literally the reason why I love the Reporter a lot too. I think I like Sailor more than Reporter though because it is also a Shipwreck card and lets you see your whole deck. I still find myself picking it not very often because I don't do many AI builds anymore (I find it too contested) but if it's given to me as a double, I would easily pick it. :)
@@NoWondersTVI prioritize it over essentially anything else, there are many games where I will even take a 1-of into the final (especially if I get sorceres which usually makes it free). I think the sailor goes with anything, in addition to the cards I list above it also goes with vendor, band, or cook decks because it sends your yellow/red/big cards to the bottom where they will get max value. The sailor’s versatility makes it so strong in my opinion and I hope you get some use out of her in your games :) thanks for the comment!
@@andrewsmile21 Two pretty obvious additionals synergies are putting submarine and villain on the bottom as 7th card. Villain is only recommented with 2 or 3 Sailors. The interaction with Ufo and Sailor is a little bit weird but it still is advantageos most of the time.
Also congratulations to Challengers! for winning the Kennerspiel 2023 regardless of whatever people say! Let's not forget games like The Quacks of Quedlinburg also won the Kennerspiel before so the game doesn't need to be HEAVY like Ark Nova to be a Kennerspiel contender.
i think that reporter is so underrated. for example i won a game because i put the prince in the bottom of the deck and a card that i needed in the top
Forgot to say, I also like Reporter and Juggler a lot because they allow you to not overkill. You can try to put on top of your deck the card of the exact value to kill the opponent's card which I find valuable. Overkilling is very frustrating as there is a lot of power wasted and Reporter/Juggler allow me to mitigate the luck of the draw.
Reporter is a completely unplayable card, because it screws the best B-Card UFO over. In my opinion the worst A card. Juggler is under all 3s everyday in my opinion except with vendor or AI. Not sure about that one though. Do not see people picking him often.
@@NoWondersTV Overrate : Probably some purples cards. You don't want them in your deck haha. So Merman and Treasure would be my overrated cards. If you are playing with a high player count of good players, you'll know that no one will want to pick purple cards so purple becomes better I guess, but it's metagaming at this point! And Underrate : I'd say Shapeshifter, which is basically a free card (throw away a card that you are not gonna keep like a Newcomer or something). You can also turn them into a free Sci-Fi Geek later on which is a pretty good upgrade for free. Also the Talent/Dog/Champion is not under the animals (but just above it) in my book. You start with one of them. You clearly don't want them because they are bad vanilla cards, but making pairs is way better than having a single card. So I'd take 1 Dog to make a pair (total strength 6) instead of one deck B animal (total strength 5) if there is literally nothing else to take. Also fun fact : Clowns are pretty good at getting you to the final two, but you will probably lose the finals haha. If your goal is to win the whole thing, don't pick Clowns, but if you just want to climb the leaderboards, picking early Clowns with a Vendor or a Make-Up Artist will make you finish second most of the time! :)
Very good idea to make a tier list on this cards game ;) Your friends will be very happy about it, I think ! ;D I just didn't realise until now that holograms were that strong.. :)
I won last weekend with 3 Mermen, 2 Treasures, 2 Sharks, 2 Navigators and 2 Villains so 5 uniques. First Villain gave me Jester of value 4 cause Mermen on the bench and second Villain gave me a third Treasure lol. Very satisfying to win with my dear Mermen. Sam had 1 Hologram which was terrifying lol but I think he discarded it between round 7 and the final so I lost round 7 because of that bloody Hologram! Such a strong card. People are keeping very little unique cards that one random card added to their deck can easily kill them. Or you can be also very lucky but less likely. I've had a guy play Hologram on me once on a perfect AI Mascot build and his Hologram gave me a third Mascot 😀
The Butler/Sorcerer hate is surprising tbh. People play very lean decks, because dying by full bench is so easy. That is why Ghost is so good after all. Butler, especially, is good imo, because you know people will play Ghosts, so having the option to have a thicker deck helps a lot imo. Does it suck, when Butler comes out early ? Sure, but even without deck order manipulation imo you can play the odds and just get an additional strong single card. I agree that it is not ideal, but imo both cards at the very least allow mediocre to bad drafts to do well enough to be competitive in the midgame. PS: The real reason i am commenting is to ask: Stella Dixit card tier list when ?
The thing is that I'd rather have 6 unique cards that are doubles and stuff rather than 7 uniques and one of them is a Butler. Sourcerer I don't mind but I'd rather get most cards from the B deck above it. I used to like that card a lot when I started, I just like it less than before but it's still decent. If there's a double Sourcerer, I probably will take it because it's still decent raw power and can clear the bench too. And hell yeah, we need to do that Stella tier list + also the words so can put things like Corsica or Mediterranea in D tier 😁

@@Guudys I tried Prince and it immediately killed me, so I'm a bit sour on that card. It's probably quite strong, but the potential downside is very high, so I'm hesitant to pick it if I'm likely to get into the final match without it.
I think you should stay flexible because you might never find the right cards for you. Like I've had games with triple Vendors and couldn't find any single other yellow card. It sucks but it happens. In this kind of scenario, I try to find either other synergies or strong cards like maybe a double animal in deck B or something. I wouldn't avoid D cards at all cost like there's situation where you might pick them over other cards because they give you a double/triple, or because they're 3s for your Stable Boy or other reasons. But in my opinion (so it's obviously subjective), cards like the Butler are a bit of a beginner's trap. We all thought it was so good when we started but kinda fell out of love with it. The game is still very chaotic and lighthearted so I wouldn't take it too seriously either if you're not doing well. I find it more fun irl cause it's really like a mini tournament, you're changing tables, facing different people and so on. It's very fun! On BGA, there's not all that but it's so fast paced and everything is automated that I find it still very fun to play.
The bard is better than Champion ???? They are both power 4 cards - the bard just has a really strong ability! And , if you have two , or even three bards on your bench, OH MAMA, it's an easy win, TWO bards can still win you the game imo. The Bard is not that bad at all !! I'd put it in C-tier minimum !! And it also pairs nicely with cards you need to have in flag possession like Cowboy and Treasure and Clairvoyant!
Haha, I love the passion! It's subjective of course. The most important part of the game is finding your doubles and triples of a card. So of course if double Bard is offered you should consider it. But personally I would rather have 3 Champions than 2 Bards. I only rate it higher because you start with 1 Champion and may still have it in your deck by the time you're getting C cards :)

And I agree, finding your double and triples are a key component to winning , so double bard would be better than just a single one. I do think the bard struggles a bit because you don't have access to it earlier; you might only get 1 or two rounds of it in your deck when everyone else has higher-powered cards already. And maybe to me the Bard is like the Blacksmith to you, it's not rly that good but I think it's so fun to work with lol! The best part about Challengers though is if I win a game of Challengers, it's because of skill, and if I lose, I got bad rng!! Great video though :)
Personally it really depends on if I have a low value deck or not, and if I'm happy with what I have or not. Let's say I go a MUA build with only one MUA. That's kinda bad, so I'll probably go A again to try to find another MUA and maybe also another double (like idk, a Jester for example if I had one of each) instead of getting 2 Bs. In the tournament game I'm in, I had 3 MUAs by round 2 (yes yes) so in Round 3, I just went B to try to find more interesting stuff cause I am not rolling for anything in A anymore. I got a Mime out of that, but I was hoping for either Mime, Director or Ghost, all really good for me so I am happy with what I found. Sometimes, your deck is truly really really bad and going lower tier is not even worth it (like let's say you comitted to Vendor and you already see 2 opponents with a Vendor each, you're not going to find any more interesting doubles in A!) so it might be worth to go to the higher tier to get a stronger card instead of very low chances to hit doubles/triples in the lower deck.
THANK YOU! I hate this card so much. It's never worked for me. The only time it actually procced AND gave me something good was a Necromancer in an AI build. That's literally the only time. I've died so many times by bench because of it, it's not even funny. But Sam still rates it so much, I don't get it lol We have a friend that really likes RP that he goes out of his way to have it to proc like take MUA or even Band if he's already in deck B lol, it's crazy to me!
It's risk/reward, another element of luck in a game that is full of it. But honestly I would rather a Rescue Pod than have a single Juggler or something sit in my deck for half the game. When it does work it really puts you ahead for the next 1-2 rounds and gives you direction for B deck.
@@NoWondersTV sometimes yes. But sometimes you get one of the worst B cards, like clones. And then what? Happened to me the other day and I ended up with 5 clones in what was supposed to be an Orange build (everything Orange except for the clones). I lost badly.

I could see everyone in Europe showing their copy when they went to Essen but still nowhere to be found in Australia. Even to this day, eventhough it's been more than a year that the game has been released. So sad. I've looked and it really looks fun with all the new families, the wallet thingy and whatnot. Oh well! The problem with butler is if u only have one it effectively only clears one spot, and if u have doubles its useless

I'd play again. What should a beginner avoid? Memorize the S Tier and D Tier and pick from that?

What do you do when the game lets you choose between two levels of cards? I guess it depends on the number of lower tier multiples you want to get?

Even to this day, eventhough it's been more than a year that the game has been released. So sad. I've looked and it really looks fun with all the new families, the wallet thingy and whatnot. Oh well! One day maybe!
Beach cup when?
It's been a huge hit with our friends, when Beach Cup is available in Australia no doubt we'll grab a copy! As for when it's coming to BGA, no idea :o
