Like Magnus said, I don't think anybody's actually stunned when Hikaru plays a great game and beats a top player.

That pawn was not untouchable
Hikaru coming back 🎉
All of them are top players and i think the difference is between what brand of cereal they ate in the morning at this point
Haha
hahaha the ‘it’s an absolute banger’ edit was gold 🤣
Chess is a very human pursuit, played by fallible human players and it's wonderful to see someone bringing warmth and humanity back to the game. ❤
best commentary and love the jokes
Don't know what Caruana was doing this game, it was almost as if he defeated himself.
Yeah I found his play strange, like hesitant and without flow
It was drawish game he has to keep it going create something for win to be in race for top1 as he might had assumed that nepo would win aginst nijat so a draw in this game would be detrimental for him, this is as I have understood it from hikaru's explanation and hikaru is not running for no1 as he himself says many times
@@randomgeneral2912Hikaru says he just wants to play Good Chess but if he sees his Chances he will take them
With Moves like Nf7+ and Nd5 Give Hikaru Credit coming up with Brilliant tactics winning this Game
@@epicchess2021 I am the inventor of Territorial Chess, the first successful fusion between Chess and Go.
The game is not published yet, but I'll be making some videos about it soon.
Almost like he panicked here Fabi, uncharacteristic one would say but not his first time. Very witty commentary, thanks James.
He didn’t want to make any concessions so he over compensated but Hikaru found a way because of that attacking the Knight on f8 Fabi’s Bishop on e8 made that possible
@@michaelmassaro4375 yes indeed Michael
Love the gold shout out!!
I hope Gukesh wins tbh… I don’t really want to see another Ian WC match… if you think about it Gukesh is quite close to being the WC as he has good chances to win the candidates and good chances to beat Ding given his current form.
Gukesh is an astonishing player. Guy is still a kid just looks much older.
@@sinking1902yeah he’s younger than Pragg but he looks a lot older than him. To me Pragg is more exciting and plays more distinctive and dynamic chess but Gukesh is more solid and pragmatic (not Praggmatic 😂) and will probably have less losses than Pragg in the long run if their current styles continue
Nice coverage and no no one’s catching scheffler 😌
Hikaru is Fabi’s Kryptonite.
Another great commentary
Much appreciated
Knights move backwards?!
Have a fine 'hopefully not WW3' week ahead...
Hikaru smart!
Could the arbiter be a cockatoo next time?
Surprising that Fabi missed Nd5, but like they say, "Even Homer nods."
Great tactics by Hikaru Nf7+ and than Nd5 was Brilliant giving Fabi an option of losing his Queen or being Checkmated thanks to Fabiano who didn’t want to make concessions in the game choosing to recapture his taken Rook with his Bishop disconnecting the defending pieces of the knight on f8 Thanks for the Game James Enjoy your day
Fabi is bookish, urbane, polite, polished, erudite, scholarly, but he doesn't have the killer edge to be a champion.
Ding chilling rn
Bing chillin
Can someone explain how the scoreboard is supposed to be read. Why are there pawns running diagonal across it and what do they mean, and why does each player have one game with two scores?
Where are you seeing this?
@@mikecroke6078 10:47
It's a matrix. The players don't play themselves, so instead of a score, there is a pawn instead. The score is for the players in the column to the left, so at the bottom, Nijat has a loss to Gukesh and two draws against Nepo then a draw against Hikaru, for example. The tournament is a double round robin, so they will play each other twice. They have just played the first game of the second half, that's why they have two scores against one opponent each.
Players numberrs are in the far left column. Gukesh .1, Nepo 2. etc.. Numbers cross the top row also represent the same players and produce a grid to show the score between all the candidates. For example:
Place your finger on Gukesh's name and scroll along that row until until you're inline with the number 4 which represents Pragg. The Green 1 indicates that Gukesh beat Pragg.
Still on Gukesh, scroll to 6 and see that there are two scores. This shows that Gukesh has played Vidit twice; 1 draw, 1 win.
Of course, players can't play against themself so the diagonal pawns are just a way to fill in the blanks in the grid.
At 0: 50 seconds it shows a cadence that isnt reflected
I'm an even bigger supporter of your channel now cause I know u like golf too. Do you play?
Haha thanks yeah but only since 2020 when there was nothing else to do so I switched from playing cricket! I’m nothing special roughly an 18 handicapper
@@epicchess2021 literally me too except the cricket part and 18 handicap. I keep score by how many balls I don't lose lol. Can't wait for the next chess vid, keep it up! Way funnier, faster, more concise, direct and insightful than Gotham chess
Poor Fabi. Always the bridesmaid
😂😂
I noticed new hair cut. looks good
thanks!
Hikaru is no hick.
Hikaru is no haiku.
Or perhaps he is. I don't
really know.
James, is it still statistically possible for Alireza to win this event?
As of yesterday morning the odds makers were giving him 2% chance of winning the tournament
Yeah but realistically no chance!
if he wins the rest it’ll put him at 9 points out of 14 , a highly unlikely winning percentage and scenario
Hikaru will be WCC
He wpuld be a people champion for sure 😁😁😁
Unlikely. Nepo is always 1 step ahead and Hikaru literally doesn’t care
@@delxinogaming6046that Hikaru doesn’t care is played out and meaningless he plays to win so he certainly does care Nepo should worry more about Gukesh is what I think
@@michaelmassaro4375 not true. He has a house and bills and a wife. If you asked him to walk away from streaming for 6 months to 100% dedicate his life to becoming world champion, he would simply say NO.
Now compare that to any other winner of the candidates. From that moment on that is their life. Hikaru is strong enough to win, but doesn’t have the motivation.
it might by ian vs ding again in final
Surely Ian can turn it around and win if so.
Yeah but I hope not
People giving their preferences for the winner, I wish Magnus wins. Wait a minute...
This was disappointing to me. I was really pulling for fabi to win this tournament. I know it’s not over yet but this loss severely hurts his chances
A disaster. I so much want Nepo or Fabi to win, not Hikaru. And please show more of the «game changer» commercial by Cristian Chirilă. It cracks me up😂😂😂😂
hahaha I am doing a manscaped promotion soon as well soon so am looking forward to imitating it lol
I think I am now tired of the jokes and unnecessary comments, just narrate the game
Yeah not gonna be for everyone I appreciate
Fabby could have drawn but he wanted more and lose. Typical greed LUL
THIS SPANISH BISHOP LOL
does any of this really matter since the real best player in the world sacked it off and doesnt care about being world #1 anymore? thats the only reason ding is world champ to begin with.... thats like having march madness but UCONN decides they gonna sit out lol
It matters to Chess enthusiasts that like seeing Great Chess Magnus is the best but the world is not going to stop spinning just for him
@@michaelmassaro4375 the point is its a competition to see who is the best in the world but the clear best in the world isnt even playing.... kind of like "lets see whos second best in the world" competition lol
@@shadyj8047 right Shady that’s what it is but even still Magnus chooses not to compete these other players taking advantage of the opportunity as they should Chess fans are going to watch it’s just how it is
Wow it’s exactly Hikaru’s same exact recount of his own game that you can find on his channel 13 hours before this one. Absolutely awesome content. 🎉
Then don’t watch.
@@mendelson6052 I’m not. Added to not interested.
