An Iranian-born Frenchman playing a London in Toronto and finishes with an Arabian checkmate pattern. Awesome!
An Indian turning Irish and drinking a bottle of Whiskey after losing this one..
Funnily enough the Canadian city of London is in the same province as Toronto, so maybe appropriate to the locale.
1500 learning how the pieces move was like a dagger in my chest 😂
haha sorry meant 500
@@epicchess2021 haha. i definitely let out a laugh.
Your joke was not well recived by 1500 elo player. Anyway strange rook move by alireza. He needed a win to come back in candidates. Beside one player all are super grandmasters .
500, 1500, we are all specks of dust. Learn to laugh at yourself
@@neurathal0n534that's exactly what he was doing with this comment...
Just a flash of "Alireza the tactical devil" after a long time. I think he has not come well prepared to the Candidates but I hope he will play the rest of the tournament up to his true caliber.
I’m glad you did this game James. I was literally on the edge of my seat for the final ten minutes
yeah so cool, hope you're keeping well Mike!
@@epicchess2021 yeah doing great. It’s getting to be my busy time of year. Hope all is well with you and yours as well broski
Great to see Alireza back to his _chaotic_ best.
I watched this live, even the commentators were amazed at the outcome, and how both players found some of the best moves in those middle game complications and pins, glad you covered it 🙏
It was pretty nuts watching live.
in this game Firouzja is playing like Tal Magnus Fisher, he is just eating everything, Gukesh is playing great but Alireza is on fire finding one great tactic after another.
Alireza reminds me of the smartest kid in school, but who does no study whatsoever. Just pure talent gets him through. I have no idea how much prep he does compared to say Fabi or Pragg. Just speculating ...
I thought Hikaru hinted that Alireza had done too much prep, but the way he is playing out the opening moves I don't see it. Perhaps he had someone else in mind.
We need an Alireza resurrection in the 2nd half of this tournament.
Well played. Well played, indeed.
So London is now 2-0 in the Fide candidates and final.. Interesting..
me, an 1100 already knowing how the pieces move: am I above average for my elo?!
haha yeah 1500 was a tad wrong, 500 I meant :D
This is the perfect video for me on the candidates, showing the most interesting game/s and the current standings at the end of it. That added to your usual quality/style made it a great watch, so thanks for the video 👍
thank you glad you enjoyed!
A real rollercoaster this one, reflected in your entertaining analysis. Thanks James.
Thanks Jose always appreciated!
What a game what an analysis!
Alireza is just sick w his tactics
UA-cam should recommend this to the entire world
Just proper Brilliant takes!!
Breaking the pattern. It often occurs to me in mind that switching things up increases my chances of winning in chess. Brave Alireza kinda proved my thinking's not far off. Thank you for this content 😊 I don't forget this teacher, because he said and taught us, that if you always do what you always did, then you will get what you always got.
Epic coverage
Your analysis of this game is the best I’ve seen, besides the fact that it’s the most entertaining. Your economy of words allows you to look at more possibilities (e.g., the Queen “checkmate”) as well as provide more color of the event. Very well done!
Thanks very much really appreciate the feedback, yeah always a juggling act between details vs non detail and serious vs non-serious, not always perfect but all you can do is try :D
Thanks for all your efforts. Has become my staple chess diet. Keep posting. Love your videos.
Thank you! Will do!
Saw this live broadcast, Gees, my heart almost stopped. Exiting. Horrible. Entertaining. Nerv wracking. Love it!
EC forgot to mention *the KEY reason WHY Gukesh was so **_"heartbroken"_** ...* ... Namely that he was *1 (ONE) MOVE AWAY from achieving 40-move time controls... :P*
Had he been just a tad quicker earlier on, there could have been options for a draw! :P
.
I do love watching Alireza play chess. He isn't consistent at all but on the other hand we would have seen 7 draws from Wesley if he had made it here instead :/ I love Wesley just to be clear, an amazing chess player and seems like the nicest guy on the planet, but he has prioritized not losing ranking (which is understandable, everyone has bills) over everything else and that results in a lot of not very exciting chess imho.
Pain - three days gracccce
Wow, what a game! Great commentary, as always! I'm sorry for Gukesh, but Alireza certainly deserved it. Great play!
Gukesh will be back, him and Nepo will be neck and neck in the candidates
And good old H5 holding the fort.
Great commentary. Best wishes
Amazing game indeed! My personal favorite from the candidates is the Nepo-Firouzja one. Absolute banger! Alireza is such an entertaining player
not shown, is that Gukesh stays and sets up the board, totally class from the young player in a heartbreaking ending...great review as always!
The fact that AliRZA won with a checkmate with a total garbo troll opening (my personal favourite opening btw) is hilarious.
excellent, thank you
@7:55 "So Gukesh Nnn Not taking on e4... Sorry stumbling over my words"...
If you ever decide sell merchandise on this channel you absolutely MUST have a T-Shirt with "sorry stumbling on my words"...
😆
2:59 "Is orthodoxly a word?"
Came for the chess. Stayed for the grammar speculation.
😂
Its not heart breaking, its fantastic !🎉
Gukesh thus far had an even score with Ian Nepomniachy. This defeat significantly reduces his chances to become world champion.
you thinking 1500 is a learning how the pieces move level actually broke my heart harder than the video
sorry yeah silly throwaway statement!
had to comment on it as soon as heard that, later saw the chat below. It was so hilarious to hear it being a 12-some-hundred 😂
Bro, there is no agony like the agony of chess. I was on the verge of beating my first titled player, mouse-slipped in the stupidest way possible and wanted to throw myself at the ground and try to miss
Ah man still awesome tho
the candle
wait he didn't actually say yolo did he?! lmao
Great fight. Congrats alireza
The game turned into 1+0, very amazing sstuff
should've shone the lines in that Alireza queen move. Very pretty imo
This dude makes me laugh watching his review while am high on weed😅
🤣
we do have a london in canada
oh really haha doesn't surprise me actually
Phew!!
the 1500 elo disrespect is insane 😭😭 we're not just learning how to move pieces
Sorry wrong one!
Do not be bias. We all have been in Ali's and Guk's place. Sweet victory from the jaws of defeat.
En passant check should be an auto game win
Alireza❤👏
Tough loss for Gukesh I’m sure he felt the game was winnable at one point he did have some defensive lapses toward the end Alireza getting a bit of morale Boost half the games played 7 more to go fun tournament Thanks for the Recap James Enjoy your day
Yeah great experience for him tho what a player he’s becoming
I miss Wesley So
I think Alireza has been very entertaining this tournament, it's just fair luck comes his way after some games where he lost it a bit despite some ambitious ideas.
"1500 just learning how the pieces move." me, 700 who knows how the pieces move.
Sorry wrong Statement haha
Orthodoxly is a word!
10:58 36... "KG8 isn't so bad" evaluates worse than Kh7 🤣 (Yes, I know evaluation isn't everything!)
“Who’s really pinning whom?” 🥰🥰🥰 Grammar police approves of this question.
Haha
What if your wife suddenly forbids you to make anymore videos?
It's kind of a sharp line but a Queen sacrifice is normally the way to go.
haha
Isn't he 17? He waa yesterday for sure
Ah you’re right sorry, Robert Hess threw me off!
Awesome analysis but Alireza has done badly in this tournament ,,he is always a nervous wreck!
My least favorite player has beaten one of my favorites! Yeah, that wasn't fun! 😢
Well, one of my My favorite players has beaten my least favorite.it was very fun🎉. Thats life i guess
That khaki shirt is the most boring outfit Alireza has ever worn.
zwishenzug
Haha thanks John really appreciate it, very kind
@@epicchess2021 Yep, I think donations help feed the almighty algorithm promotion! Why not give back to a channel I watch daily.
Don't cover the picture with those exclamation points. Even if you show the scene later on. Thumbs 👎. Realy don't like it.
Thanks for feedback though I'm doing it to not spoilt the result. In a way the thumbnail spoils it but sometimes you don't know what really happens even from thumbnail so I wanted to keep the intrigue
@@epicchess2021fwiw, I prefer not having it spoiled...but also, it can be compelling to see an interesting position on the thumbnail. Maybe there's a happy medium where an interesting position is partially shown, but not enough to analyze it from just the thumbnail?
Alas that the reality of content creation is so much marketing and not just, well, content creation! I really enjoy these games where you go into the sidelines and explain why something is dangerous, a curated selection of interesting games is neat but the insightful commentary is even better.
