My mother actually worked as a flight attendant with TWA from 1985-1999, just before the AA merger. She always told me the 747 was a great aircraft to fly on! The 747 was a relatively common sight at STL during those days along with 727s and DC9's. This is great footage!!
Thank you for this video...it is a wonderful treat for me indeed. You did what I dreamed of doing as a little kid...getting to fly on the upper deck of a TWA 747. I was 8 at the time of this video, and used to spot at the parking lot directly over where this plane landed...the TWA 747 was my favorite plane to site at STL...which is now a shadow of its former self. I miss these days and wish I could have lived them as an adult.
TWA leased several 747-200's from several airlines. They did so, in 1996 for transatlantic lift. TWA carried 50% of all overseas travel that summer and again, this was a 200 series.
TWA leased a number of 747-200s in 1996 that had only 3 windows in the passenger cabin of the upper deck, making them resemble the typical -100s, however, if you check out Airliners.net and search for Trans World Airlines - TWA, 747-200, 1996, you'll see a few examples of 747-200s in TWA colors but with only 3 windows on either side of the upper deck.
