- Heya, Rita aka Fàn Lǎoshī is here! Remember I interviewed this British med student Will Hart (space.bilibili.com/1585547864...) who had only learned Chinese for 1.5 years when we did this full-Chinese interview but he already spoke and talked about everything like a Chinese native back then!
In part 1: • He SELF STUDIED Native... , Will shared his learning process with massive input plus some useful tools without a textbook and a teacher.
In the second half of our interview, we dive in:
0:00 How to train yourself to think in Chinese without translating
8:01 Will’s future learning plan
10:25 What “native-level” even means
14:11 Will’s learning tips for Chinese learners
If you don't have a whole year and a half (more importantly, 4 - 8 hours per day) to dedicate to Chinese learning, or you have no idea where to start your journey of Chinese learning, join my Chinese pronunciation training program “FINDING YOUR MANDARIN VOICE” today, (re)form the best possible habits for your spoken Mandarin in 3 months!

Why do l watch your videos? Because you are beautiful ❤️
Crouching tiger hidden dragon its my favorite movie of all time will you please review it for me
I also did this. After 6 months I began to form my thoughts in Chinese and restrict any other language. Any important word I would encounter during the day(in my native language) would immediately look up the Chinese definition. Learned very fast.
I love how u add the grammar points or vocab on the top of the page for us to actually take notes and learn something!
Is is depressing how he can speak and respond so quickly and I’ve been trying to learn so much longer. My brain is like a sieve!
Don't feel discouraged! Everyone will learn in their own time. This is a young man going to med school so we should assume he is pretty intelligent. He also sounds like he did a lot of learning during lock downs and has many Chinese friends which is fantastic for him but other people might not be as fortunate. You can be this level one day too, don't give up!
I have exactly the same feeling when watching this guy 😂 Both motivated and depressed at the same time, haha! He did amazing job no doubt. The only thing comforting me is that maybe putting so much emphasis on practical knowledge have hindered writing/reading skills. 🤔
@@mihokapro3226 im totally opposite of you as a native Chinese speaker im struggling to english right now and i found out is hard when translation from chinese to english there is many words of meaning just like what WILL said you must have native speaker friend in order to improve your learning languages but my surrounding areas dont have such a person who know how to speak fluent English or native.. don't afraid to speak learning languages but that's only show Infront of friends what if stranger talk to me can i speak with confident without any mistake im pretty sure thats not going to work because subconscious would told you their definitely laughing for grammar or wrong vocabulary
@@rcm.3260great point !!
I’m so inspired. I can’t have any excuses to be like him!
So impressive! I am inspired!
Thank you very much for this video Rita and Will Hart
感谢 范老师 和 Will 同学 分享好内容。对于所有学习中文的小伙伴们非常有帮助!
I'd rather learn Chinese from him than a native speaker, as he'd be able to explain and demonstrate in plain English exactly how to pronounce the tones when speaking spontaneously and quickly. It's the same way that someone who's learnt English as a second language would do a better job of explaining how to pronounce the 'th' sound in English than me, as I just make the sound organically without thinking about it. He should start his own Chinese teaching business and call it 'Laowai-Chinese' or something.
Hi thanks for your comment. I think Will would be a great teacher, but I'd say the problem is not about being native or non-native. There are a bunch of native Chinese teachers who don't have a fundamental knowledge of the Chinese language(s) while "teaching" Chinese out there, and there also are some non-native Chinese language teachers who can't speak Chinese very well while trying to sell courses. At the same time, there are great native Chinese teachers who dedicate their years or decades of time to this job and can help Mandarin learners improve their language ability as quickly as possible. That being said, if Will were to want to teach Chinese in the future, I'd be thrilled to have such a great fellow Chinese teacher, because I know that students would be in good hands.
Good point but you should 100% learn from a native speaker.
Fallacy.
Still getting over the fact he can speak that well after just 18 months. I don't think I could l learn any language, let alone one as hard as Mandarin, in such a short time.
I think it just shows the possibility of how "fast" an English native speaker who got good resources, tools, methods, and people (plus time which might be so limited for most people) could master Mandarin Chinese! But everyone has their own path to enjoy the journey of learning a language😊
@@RitaChinese I still think it's unlikely that I could reach that level even with the same free time as he had. Or maybe I'm just a pessimist...
In all fairness, unless we speak Chinese, we don't know how good he is. We just get a feeling that he is fluent, because there are not a lot of pauses in his speech and with Rita's praise it also influences our perception of his fluency. I wouldn't compare your abilities to his. We all have different advantages and disadvantages. Find out what your advantages are and exploit them.
This is very inspiring 谢谢老师!Hope I can be as fluent as Will soon enough 嘿嘿
An excellent example of what can be accomplished if you put the time, 4 hours a day studying, and effort in learning any language. Thanks for sharing.
RITA I LOVE YOU
Yes yes yes! Another video!
直接=straight away, right away, (let's go straight home). This guy's methodology is brilliant.
his Chinese is insanely good if he learned it for that period of time
Will 真说得太棒了。我根本不相信他只1.5 年学中文了!从这个采访我学会了好多新词汇。我认为当外国人看到另外一个外国人说中文可以帮你抓住核心词汇而且能够模仿怎么很灵活地使用核心词汇!
真棒!看起来你的中文也说得很好👏😄

Rita, I would love to see more programmes about Chinese rap and hip-hop. I liked very much the one you once made, but you promised more. Or perhaps rap is already forbidden in China as a decadent, Western music ?
Hey thanks for your reminder haha! I think it's time to make another edition for Chinese rap breakdown! And rap is def not banned in China, as there are some huge rap-centric shows coming up😄🙌
Does anyone have the link to Will's channel? Please!!

我觉得他说得很有道理,在学习中文的过程中,我早也有同样的发现。我的了解是,经常靠翻译只说明你的词汇量不够大,你想不出合适的说法,只能去翻译一下。
老师是不是写错了,字幕版(明年不是2023年吗?)
这是采访是去年(2021年)做的,所以这里说的“明年”就是2022年😊

就是呀嘿嘿
这是老马的老婆吧?
I actually like his Chinese better than her.
It's clear he's lying about how he learned Chinese quickly. What is not clear is why he is lying? What motivates him to lie to all these people who listen to him?
