  • The Bark River Knives Canoe knife is a collaboration between Bark River and AKC (American Knife Company). They came together to remake and improve the original Marbles Canoe knife first made in 1903. The main improvements are the handle length had been increased and it is now full tang. The Canoe is a highly capable all purpose general use knife. It is in it's element whether backpacking, bushcrafting, hunting, or being used to cook in the kitchen.

    I figure that we'll see more and more traditional style knifes in the future, for a very simple reason. They work.

    I've seen this knife in other videos and thought it looked great. The edge to always looked thick, maybe its just the perspective, so I wondered how well it would do tasks like feathering. From you video it looks like that is not a problem. I will have to put it on my wish list. Thanks for letting us see it up close.

    really cool knife. the 2nd edition of kepharts book completely ignores the kephart knife design and instead he recommends the marbles knife, with a little drawing of it and everything. the fullers, i just cant get into them. when are ye releasing the jx6 full review? thanks joe.

      He dropped his knife and went with Marbles because Marbles paid the bills ;)
      I had planned to this last week but these forest fires have really thrown a wrench in the works (I can't do a bonafide fire). I'm trying to figure out how to finish with what I already have filmed or just refilm the whole thing. Either way, It will be up this week. Why? Thanks James!

    Hi, great review. Can you compare this knife to Bark River Gunny, Gunny Hunter or Classic drop poin hunter when it comes to hunting and camping needs? I want one of those, but cant decide. Thank you in advance for answer. Greetings from Slovakia.

    • @feralwoodcraft
      @feralwoodcraft  6 років тому

      Pavel Kvak Thanks for the kind words Pavel. My personal preference would go to the Classic Hunter that you mentioned but all are very capable knives. For hunting, I think I'd prefer a knife with a bit more meat to the handle like the Gunny or Classic then this but again, it really depends on you and what you prefer. Thanks!

    • @pavelkvak9852
      @pavelkvak9852 6 років тому +1

      Feral Woodcraft Hi, thank you for answer. If I can ask you one more question, if we do not look at the handles and compare only blade profiles of Canoe, Classic Drop Point and Gunny/Gunny Hunter, which one is by your opinion, or experience, best suitable for cutting and slicing? As I see from photos and videos and also read on internet, they all have approximately same dimension of the blade (length and thickness), but it looks to me, that bevel grind is different on each one. So what do you see as a mine difference in bevels, or blade profiles as whole on these knives? Is one of them significantly better then others on cutting and slicing, or are they comparable in this category? I ask because I expect from knife mainly that it will be good in that for what is knife for, and that is by my opinion slicing and cutting. So if you can answer me also this question and help me with my decision, I will be grateful. Thanks again.

    • @feralwoodcraft
      @feralwoodcraft  6 років тому

      Pavel Kvak No problem. Again it's not a simple answer. As you mentioned, the grinds vary so it largely depends on what you're slicing and cutting. If you're after a woodcraft/campcraft knife where wood, rope, and other similar materials are your main use for the blade with game processing a secondary, then I'd suggest the Gunny. If game processing is a primary focus, then the classic is the definite go to here in my opinion. If you want a blade for somewhere in between, the canoe would be a good choice (although, I'd still personally go for the Gunny here too but that's mainly a handle vs my big hands thing).

    • @pavelkvak9852
      @pavelkvak9852 6 років тому

      Feral Woodcraft Thank you again and sorry if I bother you with too many questions. So one last question..... as you mentioned Gunny, which one you mean as a better all around knife? Classic Gunny or Gunny Hunter? Or Gunny Vortex? And also which steel you prefer - A2, 3V or Elmax? Thank you again in advance for answer.

    • @feralwoodcraft
      @feralwoodcraft  6 років тому

      Pavel Kvak I'm sorry, I was referring to the Gunny Hunter.

      I like to save my change in a gallon paint can I bought new (no paint in it) at home depot. By the time it fills up it's usually around $300 or so saved up. Other option is some form of credit or watch the secondary market such as ebay, arizona knives, etc.

    • @moadventure6408
      @moadventure6408 6 років тому +2

      Aikidobear129 How often do you use knives, and what all tasks do you use them for? I think this is a great size for a knife, and light and thin are good things from my experience. More nimble and much more effective with cutting. Which, is the main use for a knife. BRs are expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for with BR.
