- An Ontario driver was “shocked” that his insurance company threatened to increase his premiums unless he installed a certain security device in his vehicle.
Arwinder Kalsi of Mississauga, Ont., owner of a 2020 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck said he recently got a letter from his insurance company, TD Insurance, that said he must install an anti-theft tracking device by the end of the month or his insurance premiums would go up.

Motor vehicle manufaturers have a responsibility in this issue. Why don't they make them anti theft to begin with. It's always on the consumer to bear the cost which is not fair!
Becsyse then the argument would be "why do we need insurance". Ride a bike instead, cheap and no insurance
Exactly.
Um duh! If they did sell them which most do now it would be part of price of vehicle. Consumer still pays and since its at dealership likely paying the most. Lol at not fair!
@@Coldbird1337 lol actually lots of bicycling accidents where rider of bike gets sued.
The manufacturers want their cars stolen. When a car gets stolen insurance replaces it so the amount they sell is increased. They tech to decrease thefts but they don't use it.
How about minimum 15 years for vehicle theft?
Anti theft devices should be standard equipment on a vehicle if required.
They are, but the security level is easily bypassed with basic methods. Think of it as a computer system that'll never receive updates for security exploits.
Insurance -- The unwanted necessity
True, except Canadians are inviting them to monitor themselves.
LOL. Unwanted until something happens to you and you wish you had insurance or glad you have it…..
For my new Acura RDX I got asked to install an anti-theft device or find another insurer all-together. Gotta say at the time I was upset until my car got actually stolen and the Tag was how they found it 2 hours later.
Did you get your car back l looking at buying an mdx and was concerned
I had tag .
My car got installed and found in hours with the tag tracking
How much did the anti theft device cost?
@@king_C_Small400 plus tax at any speedy glass location. It’s the one time installation fee. Every insurance company is dealing with it differently. Some want you to pay the full installation amount, others will help pay for it and some of them will pay for the full amount
They should be forcing the manufacturers to include these features by default, not the owners to install such things as addons.
Tracker should only be turned on when the vehicle is actually stolen. if the trackers on all the time I have a problem with that.
The tracking is only activated after you’ve reported it stolen. TAG requires a police report number and your tracking number to track and locate your car. The insurance companies do not have access to any of that information it’s directly linked to TAG.
Never go to TD insurance, they are the worst. They are so worried about their money, no customer satification.
So glad they said they wouldn't do monthly payments for me when I was shopping around litterally the only place that wouldn't do monthly payments either but they did have the cheapest insurance now I know why
What a load of crap! Unbelievable! Blackmail for sure!
The manufacturers are responsible for selling a substandard vechicle !!!
These always been anti theft devices on every modern vehicle but if a professional car thief wants your vehicle I’m very sure they will find a way. Doesn’t matter how many anti theft devices you have they will find a way to bypass all that and p.s insurance companies are still making money even after a loss, they should be there when we need them after all these years of paying insurance
Nope, you're wrong.
My car got stolen this Friday and recovered within 24 hrs because that same TD tracking
Why are these devices not a standard on new vehicles
Dont do it!!!!
No one is stealing my 15 year old Corolla.
Bring it in Brampton Ontario and you will see,
they don't steal cars just to resell overseas. Some vehicles are stolen to conduct criminal activity
Yeah, blame/penalize the victims!
Another way to track our behaviours. What else does it track? Speed, driving behavior, locations frequented so they going to start charging add-on premiums if you go to unsafe areas?
I totally agree! They say it's for tracking when your vehicle gets stolen? I don't think so, I think you're right I think it is tracking the driver not so much the vehicle.
Valid point, but its a necessary evil at this point, auto-theft is out of control
It’s not possible for them to do that with these because nothing is hardwired. Also if your car has a computer chip or if you drive with your phone they already have all that information anyways.
was paying around 85 a month since 2020 on my 2020 CRV . It went up to 129 a month through CAA but it would have been even higher (177 a month) if I did not show evidence of a steering wheel lock device (I bought the club). My insurance rep said CAA is apparently no longer insuring Honda CRV's moving forward so when my policy renews next year I'll have to shop elesewhere
Punish the criminals with heavy penalties in million dollars, no one will think to touch others vehicle
Considering how stupidly expensive cars are nowadays, even used, not to mention the absurd amount of fees packed on by dealerships. These devices should be mandatory before I even purchase the vehicle
Even when using a tracking device the police don't try to retrieve the vehicle after it is stolen.
So please explain how this extra cost to the consumer makes a difference?
I had a tracking system and my stolen Lexus was never recovered.
Buy a car with a manual transmission. You can leave the thing running with the door wide open in the worst neighbourhood and it will be safe!
Yup. My lady has a manual mini countryman. Minis are listed top 10 least stolen AND it’s stick. Me? Not so lucky: automatic 2020 F150. Canada is going to hell and our govt is increasingly tyrannical.
I have a 2020 CRV, I have a tire lock on it, use it every time I go out, I am suspicious I think every stranger out on the streets are criminal.
You have mental issues bro
Welcome to diversity!
@@MrMannyhw Are you mad there are immigrants in Canada.
Well I'd hate to be that paranoid
@@anthonybelyea1964 Well being paranoid will not make you a vulnerable victim like yourself.
The bill should go to the federal government because they are allowing this to happen.
Exactly. This is due to liberal government policy as it pertains to bail and immigration.
How exactly is theft and bad driving habits the government’s problem?
@@62Cristoforo Insurance is up because of inflation and that's the government's problem, it has nothing to do with driving habits that's a job for the police.
@@user-fj9ki4by3ipoor vehicle systems leaving lacking security is the problem. All these keyless ignition systems for "convince" are what are causing these vehicles to be stolen effortlessly. But yeah of course, it's political 🙄
That is called extortion.
That's the Canadian way!
Not it’s not. You can use another insurance company.
You're absolutely right! And then the other business right they would call it extortion wouldn't it!
@@MrMannyhwwait till they all do it though then what because insurance is mandatory he don't have it you can't drive unless you want to break the law and don't drive with insurance or if you can put a million dollars liability into a bank account you can do that also
So now I'm being tracked by my insurance company on where I go, how fast I'm driving, how many km I drive yearly?
no, its only 'supposed' to be turned on after police report number given
Are you enjoying insurance going up?
i have them on all my machines atv ,motorcycle and truck all have gps tracking
I live in Brampton where there is a tremendous amount of insurance fraud vehicle theft, and inexperienced drivers .
Some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country.
Every time my rates go up . I curse the insurance company , fact is though I dont really blame them . If they wanted me to track my vehicle I would .
keep voting liberal..
Already forced to pay into the insurance racket, and now forced to pay for your own tracking
Motor vehicle manufacturers should have that already pre-installed consumers should not have to pay for that after the fact that's silly what's next we got to buy our own seat belts and airbags
This is directly related to organised crime syndicates. It speaks to the laxidazy approach our police forces deal with such crime in Canada.
I just got this letter!! 😠😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I got the IGLA anti theft in my car. Unlike the tracking device, the anti theft I got my car wont move from my house. Saving myself the headache of deductible and lost of time
What about the vandalism that occurs when thieves TRY to break in and take the car
Privacy will be only for the wealthy in the future. This guy should pay the increased rates and not submit to the insurance company. We have to let banks and insurance companies know we won't submit to tracking our every move. This article isn't telling you that your vehicle comes back in a worse state then before it was stolen, and with your stuff gone. So the tag protection is all after the fact. Try using a steering wheel lock.
So are the rates lowered when you pay for an anti theft system?
Yes, otherwise, your premium will be much higher.
@@baxakk7374 Um no, they just won't raise your premiums. They say nothing about lowering them if you get the anti-theft put in
0:49
Not lowered, they just don't jump by 400-500 per renewal.
Td doest pay the $400
I think the thieves are working at the insurance companies...
1M loss? How much was the profit? News is a joke.
News doesn't exist anymore
They work from home now, so they need more....new bajamas
it's common sense
Gateway to further tracking15 min.cities anyone😅
TD cooperation getting rich.whole consumers become poorer😮
The raccoons here in South Africa use anti blocking devices so vehicles can’t be tracked..stripped and sold as parts or taken over the border…
Be thank ful you have transportation...
I pay $100/month 🤣🤣🤣 nothing bruj
Stop complaining. Please be tolerant and open minded!
🤣
Yes enjoy more crime....thank u government
😂
Maybe stop buying pickup trucks when you don't live on a farm or work in an industry that requires towing 😂😂😂 problem solved!
How do you know he doesn't do construction?
@@alexbeis1861the ute tray is still clean and not scratched
And in the end the customer still gets the shaft. lol. They must be liberals.
Welcome to liberal policies.
Those poor criminals. They can't possibly stay behind bars, they just immigrated. They turn to crime because they can't find a job since there's so much racism in Canada. We should let them out immediately even if their rap sheet is a mile long and they have a criminal history in their home country. 😂 That's liberal Canada for you. It's a circus run by clowns.
I’m pretty sure these are insurance policies
Do you know how easy it is to steal newer cars. It only takes 30 secs to steal cars with Can bus exploit. Don't even need a key relay. Police just can't keep up with these thefts.
@@62Cristoforo yes but the crime is because of liberal policies. If you don’t stop crime, consumers are the real losers. Today it is insurance and next would be property taxes. Business will close and move out of the city because of crimes. Look at SF and LA.
Yes of course, liberal government have designed the automotive industry to build all these keyless ignition systems, that allow vehicles to be stolen effortlessly just to jack up private insurance costs.
