  • Since I was switching the tires out for the new Shinko Mobbers, I decided to add a bit of personalization to the Monkey by having the wheels powdercoated frost gold. They came out amazing and the tires look strong on the bike! Here's the highlights of the project and I'll be editing out the rear sprocket change video next. Thanks for watching, and I hope you subscribe to my channel if you liked it!

      Hi Nathan, it’s a powdercoat, and here’s the exact powder we used:

    I wish Honda one day would make a specific monkey line that comes out looking exactly like this. Ya, im sure majority of people want their monkey to be more street looking, but I personally think if they offered a bike like this, maybe some different trim and color combos and the mobbers on them already, they could absolutely kill it. Nice work dude.

      I wish I could like this comment more than once! THANK YOU, this means a lot to me as not often are your tastes and style choices to the liking of people. Thanks for sharing your appreciation! I think Honda did a great job with the Monkey, and in certain aspects are restrained with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations with things such as the rear render and license plate, as well as the rear tail light. Also being a street legal bike, the tires "should" be suitable for the road. The Mobbers are road-worthy, but are not designed for commuting or longer trips, so they wouldn't be a good choice for an OEM tire. That being said, this doesn't mean that dealers couldn't build their own special-edition Honda Monkey's! Or, maybe I should start building them and reselling them as custom bikes?!

    Ordered same tires for my blue 2020. Your bike is exactly what I’m looking for. Going with Takegawa up pipe instead as like the chrome factory look. Keep up the awesome work. Last bike I had was 78 CR250R red rocket. Miss that one...

    How do those Mobbers perform on pavement at higher speeds? I love the look of them.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 роки тому +4

      They’ll reduce your top speed by a few mph, and will of course not have the cornering grip of a proper road tire, but they felt comfortable enough when I was carving the mountain roads in Upstate NY on the Grom. I don’t push the bike in the corners too hard on the street, so I might not be the best critic for street grip-worthiness

    Was going to change tires but I waited and listed all my miles road vs dirt. Staying with stock most of the off-road I’m doing is fire trail when it’s dry. Backs to far gone for too much silliness. Did the rear shocks, need to do cartridges in the front. I’m a bit gravitationally enhanced.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 роки тому

      The stock tires aren’t bad actually! I put them to the test at the Woodsman Cup race I did (look for the videos on that) with my Grom on the Monkey tires. They were bad in wet mud, but fine on damp dirt. You might also look at some of the scooter tires out there. Specifically the type that come on the Zuma as they have a decent tread pattern on them

    Are you planning to do the clutch cover swap that adds the oil filter?

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому +1

      Not at the moment, I am going to add the TB Parts oil cooler which doesn’t need the clutch cover. If I find it doesn’t cool much, I’ll maybe try plumbing it into the clutch cover instead and compare.

I'm thinking about getting an extra set of rims to make things easier. Any suggestions on n extra set of rims? Thx keith

      Man that sounds fun! I actually bought two brand new OEM Monkey wheels to put the OEM tires on as we run a race here every December (Woodsman Cup, check out my videos on it!) that required street tires. They were around $250 for the set and include the bearings and spacers. Well worth not having to hassle with tire changes

    Hey john great videos. Did you by happen to press the wheel bearings out before you powder coated or just leave them in? I’m interested a powder coat as well

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, and thanks! I did not press them out as my powdercoater is also a motorcycle mechanic, so he did the whole job (bearings, tires, powder, reinstall). He said he used a long punch tool to tap the middle spacer shaft driving the bearings out. The manual does state to replace them after removal

    Question, because the Monkey bike has fuel injection, after you install the aftermarket exhaust system do you have to modify the fuel system to get the added power the exhaust system offers, or does it automatically compensate.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  5 років тому +1

      Easy answer: a pipe alone doesn’t need extra fuel, but if you add an intake, it will need more fuel. The pipe alone is a nice power boost, no need for fuel tuning either

  • @lukeperrecone9491

    My 2019 Monkey has issued tightening the chain. Once you adjust the chain it has tight spot. The Honda has a 1000 miles . I replace factory chain with same one. It still has a tight spot. I saw in this video you are installing aftermarket sprocket.I did some research and they say to move the sprocket one bolt hole. My question is.Do I have to remove the rear wheel to do this job.
    Thanks Luke

    • @John5XR

    Is the ride much harder than with the stock tires as the mobber rear is 130/70 vs stock 130/80? I ordered my mobbers but will see the outcome. Also how long does the rear last as it’s quite a small circumference.

    • @John5XR

    • @John5XR
