I am back in TUNISIA for the second time, but this time just for 24 hours as I regroup before heading tomorrow to LIBYA!
The last time I came here (4 years ago) I was a broke, lonely, budget backpacker and I had a mediocre time at best.
But this time around is a different story! I had this idea to find a random Tunisian stranger from Instagram and spontaneously meet up with him/her to have the BEST DAY we could possibly have.
Let's just say that I think I succeeded, but I'll let you be the judge :)

there's no sush a name in tunisia , perhaps Makram or Akram !
@@GeoHdReal A great portion of the population is already trilingual , we speak our own version of Arabic , but at a very young age we start learning Arabic and French since they're our first and second languages , and around 5th grade we start learning English since it's now the world's language , and then in the 3rd and 4th year of high school we get to learn an additional language of our choice , add that to the huge population of Italians that lived among us in the late 1900's , most Tunisians of that time could speak Italian almost fluently , so it's a bit normal to see a Tunisian ( not all of them ofc ) speaking a couple of West-European languages aside from Arabic and their own dialect especially if they works with tourists , nonetheless , kudos for the old man he's quite smart.

Visiting in summer would be extremely perfect,u can start by the capital then u can go to other nearby cities(like Benzart which is on the Mediterranean). There is also saharah in South where festivals are oftenly held .
If u are coming by winter u can go to Western areas in north where snow makes a formidable scenery.
Anyway u can look up stuff online and welcome.
@@tunisianorthafrica1232 I disagree, as a Tunisian, i'd love to avoid the scorching heat and busyness of the coast line at summer and would go for Spring (Winter is too cold), less tourists and more authentic experience in Spring especially when you're planning to explore, not ust be the typical tourist in a hotel room.
Plan A: 3-4 days in Tunis (Medina, Bardo Meseum, Les Berges du Lac, Carthage-SidiBouSaïd)
2 days Bizerte, Cap Angela

It's really nothing compared to Egypt, Algeria or Tunisia...even Libya has more Antique places.
@@h.g.3845 Ok h=i've been through the comments and maybe you are the most right of tunisians. Even if Morocco was not integrated that well in the roman empire, the civilisation and the independant dynasties are unique in the arab world and Africa. Oldest still regning dynasty, the most beautiful palaces and walled cities. It's like comparing Greece (tunisia) and France (Morocco). Morocco has a defenitly more refined "way of life", gastronomy and architechture. Snowy mountains, ski resorts, fantastic surf spots on the atlantic, and more layed back beaches on the mediteranean. Love our tunisian brothers, but no comparison will do justice.
Red and Green Sorry but morocco is nothing special i see the comments moroccans leave here about tunisia and i visited both countries morocco in 2017 and tunisia in 2006 and 2019 and i enjoyed my stay better in tunisia. 6:31 Actually in most Arab and North African countries you have to FIGHT to pay the bill, i don't really know why but we still do it 😂😂 This moment reminded me of that one time when I had lunch with my sister with an Australian friend in a Tunisian restaurant. I offered to pay and he said " okay, thank you" and I was like (in my mind) " wait so we're not gonna fight on this ?" I mean I really wanted to pay but at the same time I wanted to fight over the bill and then win the fight 😂 I guess it's just a part of our culture.
Not just in Arab countries, also in Pakistan people don't let guests pay.
Actually even if its not guest, just even friends, they will argue who will pay as both parties wanted to pay. I was in dubai before and there are 2 Egyptian guys were arguing in the streets about who should pay even when they already paid and left kfc. Lol
I'm Greek and we do that too😂😂It's amazing how many things i found alike between Greece and Tunisia.

This was a REALLY cool video man, I loved how you just reached out to see if anyone is around, not even knowing them. That's really special and is the key to life-long friendships, is that you have to start somewhere, and be open to anything. Safe travels!
As a Tunisian i wanted to add something. I saw some people asking if there's resentment between Moroccans and Tunisians. I'd say that generally IT'S NOT the case (except during some football matches). However , I remember hearing that the Moroccan Government was lobbying against the Tourism industry in Tunisia after the 2015 Sousse attack by wanting to scare people into visiting us and saying we're a dangerous country so they can profit from the situation. I have actually witnessed some posts of the kind online.
Many Tunisians took offence in that as we saw it as a form of betrayal, instead of helping us get back on our feet, we felt like we were being sabotaged. And our economy relies heavily on tourism, and thousands of young people get their livelihood from the tourism industry. The old man in the video (judging from his ability to speak multiple languages) is probably working in the tourism sector or something related to it.
I'm just trying to explain his point of view, but clearly, I don't agree with him. There's a lot of things in Morocco and Morocco is a beautiful country. So is Algeria, and Tunisia and Libya. Those countries share a lot of history and similarities, but all have their own particularities as well, which makes them all beautiful in their own way. This overzealous nationalism within the Maghreb is cancerous. Let's learn to appreciate each other. We have a lot of beauty in the Maghreb.
Our ancestors didn't care about borders the way we do now. The most praised Wali in Tunisia, Imam Abul hassan Al chadili was Moroccan and he was the student of Sidi Bou Said. The Hafsids , the dynasty that ruled Tunisia from the 1200s to 1500s is of the Masmouda tribe which has origins from Morocco. Fatimah el Fehri who founded the Qarawyin Mosque in Fes comes from Kairouan, Tunisia.
These are just a few examples , I can give many more.
Anyways, I hope one day the Maghrebis will stop fighting over such stupid things and learn about our common history and culture.
Fatima fihri al qurayshi came from arabia. She belonged to the tribe of quraysh
@@ubuntu2551 She was born to a family from Kairouan. A family of Arab origins. She was also called Fatima El Fehri El Qarawiya because she's from Qayrawan. Hence the name of the University is al Qarawyiin.

Tunisia has been a legitimately free and democratic nation since 2011 after the Arab Spring began there. So far, they are the only free nation in the Arab World.
Nas Minaj He is not a part of the Tunisian Brotherhood , he’s a professor at a university and has no relation with any political party ( don’t mix up conservative with the brotherhood).
Plus the Tunisian Brotherhood are not named like that .
And finally that’s what democracy is all about , as long as the people choose what they want , bad or good , it’s still democracy.
Democracy in third world countries has nothing related with developement . Just to stay clear
@@riorio745 the majority of Tunisians aren't Arabs ;) I'm myself a Berber Tunisian .. Using many Arabic words in my Tunisian dialect doesn't makes me an Arab ... Turkish before were speaking Arabic right? But are they Arabs ? Of sure not
@@canneddinners6059 The Arab Spring was a event of anti-government protests, uprisings, and armed rebellions that began in 2010. It started in Tunisia after the Tunisian people had enough of the dictatorship of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who was president since 1987. In 2011 however, the people protested against Ben Ali and the people won with Ben Ali serving a 35 year prison sentence. This caught the attention to other Arab nations in North Africa and the Middle East, resulting in their respective people to fight against their respective governments after years of inequality and corruption. This is what led to the Arab Spring forming. Prior to the Arab Spring, Tunisia used to be autocratic. But ever since the Arab Spring began, Tunisia has been a democracy (a flawed democracy according to the 2018 Index of Economic Freedom) and so far, they have been a democracy ever since. Other Arab nations, while still autocratic in general, began to crack down on corruption and oust powerful dictators. (i.e. Muammar Gaddafi, and Omar Al-Bashir).
