4:3 is better. Widescreen wastes desk space and constricts vertical field of view. Widescreen exists because movie theathers 60-some years ago wanted to make the viewing experience worse on TVs. They could not make the screen bigger and keep the aspect ratio because then they would have to raise the roof, but wider was possible and you could add some more crappy seats at the edges. CRTs could not be very wide because that would make them longer and heavier; but for LCDs you can easily make them any aspect ratio. They compromised between 4:3 ”made for TV legacy content”, 21:9 anamorphic, ~16:9 cropped content (film was always 4:3; they just squeezed or cropped). This made 16:9 cheaper and computer monitor manufacturers oiggy-backed on high volume 16:9 instead of making their osn 4:3 or 16:10 panels. Now there’s 21:9 ultra-short screens which means the screen must be strictly bigger to get the same height and your wasting a lot of pixels out in the periphery where you don’t have any use for them.

*SCARED SHITLESS MODE*: Play on 2nd hardest difficulty (Ultra-Violence), in the dark, with the sound muted. I discovered this as a kid playing at 1am when my mom went to bed and I didn't want to get caught on a school night. *Effect*: You can't hear enemies around corners or right behind you so each turn of the corner is a suspenseful one. *Reasoning*: Your helmet is pressurized to protect you from the toxic atmosphere and blocks out ambient noise. The only sounds you hear are your shallow breathing, heartbeat and terrified screams.

Dude back in '93 DOOM was at the height of consumer graphics. NOTHING looked as good as DOOM. It was like staring into the goddamn future, and well... it was.
True facts
Or the opposite. Doom in 1993 was a very pretty gameand it wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much traction otherwise.
Graphics were top-notch back in the day. But, yes, it's lots of pure fun even today.
People make those statements but it’s a dumb statement as graphics still play a huge role of making a successful game, Doom was made famous due to its three dimensional graphics, it was top of the tier for its time, and without the huge improvements of this 3D technology this game would first not exist, buts let’s say it did somehow wouldn’t nearly be as successful....

Young gamers impressed by 1993 level design, back when everything was not a simple corridor and you have to find your way through.
The first level isn't the best example for that. The second one is fun though, especially when you try to get the chainsaw.

That says so much about level design in modern games.

How about Teens react to 4:3 aspect ratio?
4:3 is underrated, makes me nostalgic.
@@robertjenkins6132 dude i have to play gta sa like that on my intel hd 500$ laptop with low graphics.
Now there’s 21:9 ultra-short screens which means the screen must be strictly bigger to get the same height and your wasting a lot of pixels out in the periphery where you don’t have any use for them.
it would be better if they took actual teen gamers not these amateaurs

*SCARED SHITLESS MODE*: Play on 2nd hardest difficulty (Ultra-Violence), in the dark, with the sound muted.
I discovered this as a kid playing at 1am when my mom went to bed and I didn't want to get caught on a school night.
*Effect*: You can't hear enemies around corners or right behind you so each turn of the corner is a suspenseful one.
