  • Batman Wayne Family Adventures is a DC Comics Webtoon project focused on the Batfamily. While largely comedic in nature the series does also play host to some deep character moments. In some instances the series deeply cherishes DC Comics canon and lore in a way that at times rivals the mainline comic books. Batman, Batgirl, Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Jason Todd (Red Hood) Tim Drake, Damian Wayne (Robin), Oracle, The Justice League, and so many more have both interesting and fun moments to shine. In this video we take a look at some of the the interesting moments that have occurred in this ongoing (time of recording lol) series. We also compare some moments that have been mirrored in mainline books. Such as an outing with Tim and Bernard in DC Pride 2022 (excluding Tim's special not out yet we'll get there). We also examine an outing with Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown and Barbara Gordon (Oracle) as it pans out when compared to Batgirls the ongoing series. That and take a look at some fun issues, silly moments, what people may not be enjoying and more. It's a Batman Wayne Family Adventures catch up here on Casually Comics!

      that's honestly all I want from it, wholesome moments, we rarely see the bat family act like a family in many situations and getting to see Bruce as a caring father and the robins and batgirls acting as brothers and sisters is the cutest thing on the planet, showing that despite being heroes, they can still enjoy the fun moments in between beating the crap out of joker, riddler, etc.

      Yeah I always love seeing batfamily members being a family. When Dick says Tim is the closest thing he has to a brother in the Dixon run, when Jason gets mad at Dick for faking his death and is about to call him brother, when Damian is mourning Steph and complains how much she got on his nerves and Wonder Girl says "that's what big sisters are supposed to do".. This comic really manages to just highlight little character moments that I feel we bat fans have wanted for them for years.
    Batman congratulating steph, talia checking up on Damian and the acknowledge Jason ptsd are all powerfully human moments that are sweet.
    Combine that with a great intro to underutilized batfamily characters and plenty of comic Easter eggs and this comic is a gem for new and old fans .

    Wayne Family Adventures is a treasure. I also really liked the Cass two-parter that focuses on her ballet. The introduction of Cass liking ballet was something I really liked and I feel like it made so much sense for her character. I love the idea of having someone like Cass who grew up seeing the body, especially her body, as nothing but a weapon find a form of self-expression that uses the body to tell a story and convey complex emotions. Ballet as a concept is just something that Cass would be able to connect with on a fundamental level unlike anything else. But I feel like this aspect gets forgotten a lot.

      Would be fantastic with how much so much the batfamily is nuked out of existence every adaption (pretty sure Young Justice is the first tv series adaptation with every Robin). Stephanie Brown especially NEEDS more screen time. How is she so overlooked when her character’s story is so modern and relatable with a powerful message. Between her family background, feeling forgotten and a failure as robin and batgirl (and being both), and her imposter syndrome, there’s so much opportunity. From her focus chapter in the Wayne Family adventures where Bruce talked to her and told her she is enough and he deals with having to live up to a “perfect” symbol himself, that was honestly just powerful.

I really like how many nods to continuity are in the series, while still doing it's own thing. I know a lot of people don't like too much continuity, or find it hard to get started, but when done right, references to earlier continuity have always spurred me on to find out what they are talking about, or why something is happening (like Dick's Discowing suit - I went out and found some stories where he was wearing it, because it was just so silly I almost imagined it had been made up for the webtoon).

    The one thing I enjoy here is that it’s all concentrated in one place, I don’t have to read series X first then Spinoff X1 in between chapters 2-3 but then also read Different hero Z chapters 75 to 98 to understand the background for Chapter 2 even though it opens plot holes that aren’t covered in the spin-off or main series.

    I have to say I found the Cassandra storyline WAY more interesting than the Tim “hide the story(line)”. The reading of the body works with Orphan in so many ways and it gives a seven of nine vibe showing how the abilities remain the same but the perception of the powers can change and be made positive. Something this webtoon should be commended for because in its short run it has done something that DC has struggled with both Damien and Red Hood for years and continue to do so, focus in a direction and run with it.

But for others, like myself, we're kinda tired of Gay stories where we need to go through mental trials and tribulations just to get to the love. I think Jon and Tim's stories need a lot more work. I'm excited to see what they do with Jay- they gave a superhero a boyfriend who's almost invincible? I love that the writers can't do the "damsel in distress" thing, they're going to need to find other avenues and that's exciting. But I don't feel like I really know anything about Bernard yet? I like it so far, becuase I like TIM. But it needs more time before I'm sold. I wish we got to see them rekindle their friendship more first before "let's date." The way Tim and Steph broke up was just disrespectful toward the legacy of their relationship. And Stephanie has been nothing but disrespected for over a decade now. It doesn't matter if Tim were dating another girl, it would still be annoying and disrespectful how DC handled this.
    But of course that on top of the fact many say Bernard is just a male version of Stephanie is just hella annoying. Though I don't agree with Tim being bi, I still love his character and will never love him any less. He has always been my favorite batboy. But making his first relationship with a dude just so haphazard is just lazy writing. But hey, he's been disrespected in writing too for over a decade. Of course this is not going to make him any more interesting as a character. He still gets no real quality stories and character arcs like he used to. Sexuality does not a good and relevant character make, everyone knows that.
    And making him Robin again is stupid. Just do Red Robin 2009 again but better. That was peak Tim finding his own unique identity in the batfamily, not drowning in the Robin title over and over.

    • @padenal6069
      @padenal6069 2 роки тому +5

      I feel like him being Robin again *could've* worked off it was more emphasized with his started motivation in Alfred RIP where he told Bruce he would come back and help Bruce through this death. Tim came in after Jason's death to help Bruce, and now Bruce was spiraling after Alfreds death so Tim wanted to help. There is character mining potential here about the history of their relationship and where it can go from here but nothing has really been made of it.

    I love Wayne Family adventures. Its much lighter and a lot sillier than most Batman stories but that's fine. One of the things you have to accept in comics is that you'll see many different interpretations of characters. Everyone is recognizable here, this is just a version of their lives where the stakes are internal rather than external. No one is going to die in a fight but they'll struggle with themselves. Its not even really as different as it seems, psychology is as integral to Batman stories as mystery and action.

    I adore WFA. It's a highlight of my week and something I always look forward to. And I can understand some finding it too silly at times but I think it's an even trade. The main comics can be insanely dark and gritty at times so its nice to get the opposite feeling from this comic.
    Heck the main comics will often be goofy while trying to be more intense. Like when in the current Robin run Damian took some blood and drew circles around his eyes and an R on his chest to symbolize him being Robin again but it was just goofy looking. (Though those issues were good overall that moment has just stuck in my mind)
    Or going further back you have really silly stuff like say MetalHead from the comics leading into Bane breaking Bruce's back. (Seriously if you've never seen Metalhead look him up his entire getup is hilarious).

    • @johnathonhaney8291
      @johnathonhaney8291 2 роки тому +2

      So, yeah, I adore WFA for all those reasons, ESPECIALLY for the silliness.

    • @roxan_1314
      @roxan_1314 2 роки тому +2

      @@johnathonhaney8291 yeah no I get you. I personally don't really like the insane dark and gritty. Like I really hate the N52 and its due to just like how over the top it went with that as well as what it did to the characters. I dropped comics in fall of 2018 due to it just being too boring and depressing. Didn't pick up again till last year and thats only a few titles. Well really just Robin and Nightwing and then a few mini series like Robins and Robin & Batman. Oh and now Task Force Z just to see where that is going.
      As for old gritty stuff most of it i find funny. Like again old characters like Metalhead. Though im unsure if he was ever suppose to be like considered dark. Because his design is just silly. Though there is a moment of Bruce calling him a "dark mirror" of what he could be. Though that being that Metalhead was an obsessive guy who was relentless in his pursuit of the info he wanted and attacked people along the way.
      Though I really don't like various stuff that was done to make the characters darker or cruel ya know. Like I mean im biased in this as a batfam fan but I hate how Bruce went from caring father to abusive ass who beats his kids. From attack Dick and kicking him out of the house. To stuff like him again hitting Dick during The Court of the Owls and attacking him after Forever Evil to force him to go to Spiral (poor nightwing cant catch a break)
      Then you have him hitting Tim after the wedding with Selina fell apart. And him attacking Jason after the whole Penguin stuff. Then you had the whole thing with him and Damian during the titan run before it ended.
      Im just. Tired ya know. So I love getting to see good dad Bruce in WFA. We see that some times in the comics now. Like during the Shadow War event him and Damian have some really good talks. But then you also have the stuff with Task Force Z where he won't trust Jason and won't like listen and it's causing them to clash. I just. Idk I eat up the family content when I can find it.
      And im not against the family clashing family's do a lord knows I come from a huge family and things are far from great. But like I enjoy the clashing when it's written well. Not when it's just brutal or feels off or too much.
      Really I could talk non stop about the comics I just often don't have the chance. I no longer talk to the person I used to discuss comics with and outside of talking to the guys who work at my local comic shop I dont really have anyone to talk to irl.
      And I have the reign it in with them since I don't wanna take up too much of their time though I know those guys like chatting about it too.

      But yeah I mean its been bothering me for about 10 years now. So. Been thinking about this a long time.

      @@roxan_1314 I figured. Maybe a style thing too...I'm a pro ghostwriter so tend to use minimum words for maximum effect.

    Easily my #1 favorite element of this series is how the Bat Family openly refer to each other as siblings and Bruce is 100% their dad. They're the Bat FAMILY.
    Also Tim's newly-out bi panic is a big mood.

    Wayne Family Adventures is good enough to overcome my Bat-Apathy, so that's a point in its favor. Really hope to see more DC/Webtoon comics in the future!
    7:54 My problem with Jay Nakamura is a silly one, in that there are just so many DC characters with names that are variations of Jay or Jason that I have a hard time keeping them all straight.

    I think WFA is kinda tapped into the Batfamily fandom moreso than the various creators of the mainstream comics and seems to know exactly what broad strokes fandom at large feel are missing from those comics and has been exploring those ideas in WFA. Ideas like "Tim's queer awakening is underdeveloped" or "Tim and Dick never actually adressed how their relationship changed as the batfam kept growing" or "Jason's been shown to have ptsd of some kind, wouldn't it be nice if that was awknoledged by other characters?" or "man, it would be great if Cass' body reading abilities were further explored."
    These are all things I really do want to be explored in main canon, and some of the DARKER stuff? Probably only CAN be explored in darker comics or in the pages of fanfiction, rather than the fun comedy webtoon, but as far as comics delivering on underexplored aspects of canon, WFA is delivering what the rest of DC is leaving on the back burner.

    I have been loving this comic so much. It's a lot of fun and clearly full of a lot of love for the Bat family.

    There's also two episodes that highlight Jason's PTSD from what the Joker did to him. I haven't been reading a lot of mainstream DC comics in a while but I feel like they don't nearly touch up enough on the trauma Jason would have. (hello? getting literally murdered after being tortured 😭 nobody would just recover from that) And it's such a sweet moment to see how the Batfam helps Jason in different ways, and it's just two of my favorite chapters because we don't see that side nearly enough
